Bill Johnson Sermons - The Battle Over Significance - May 01, 2011

Bill Johnson teaches a sermon at Bethel Church in Redding CA.
While Gideon was hiding in the wine press, He was called a mighty man by God. God sees where we are going to be, not our current circumstances. He is completely confident in His ability to bring about any change needed in us to fulfill out destiny. However, if we allow fear into our lives, it will affect our response to God. Fear always infects worship and redirects our worship which removes our focus from God.

As a agnostic, I feel the faith that I have lost beginning to return to me. This reminds me of the simple faith I once had and lost. I am having trouble doubting what I am hearing. That is good. I also find my mind replaying the worship songs of Jenn and Kim.

Look for this, the Power of God is going to manifest so mightily. Men, women, children, boys, girls, the young and old will be rolling on the floor, falling out in the spirit, arms raised, feet shaking, kicking in praise and there are going to be those standing and looking. Those standing and looking will wish that everyone had on pants with long shirts or praying to be in the Spirit. Before this today, choose who you want to be. Because the Glory of the Lord will fill the whole earth.

I graduated with a biology degree. I'm someone who is defined as a "realist," so I'm not coming from the idea that this man speaks of perfection. But epinephrine is always released in something exciting. As a former atheist, the exciting nature of Christianity that I was never exposed to (I assumed everyone was a legalistic wingnut) is exactly what drew me into it. Epinephrine. You simply need both. Of course you need clarity and thought. Clarity is not the opposite of excitement, though.

Bill Johnson's ministry is focused more on the flesh, having fun and doing works. You say, "Show me your works." I say, "Show me your fruit." Your work is of one thing, to pursue Christ, being dead and allowing Christ to run your life. Through this, you'll find fruit. Also, the God of love does pick out false teachers because love rejoices in the truth. Please, look at what your God did on the cross and recognize that He died there, not for mere forgiveness, but for Him to become everything.

I apologize for making this so long but one thing led to another and so on so that it was hard for me to find a stopping place. About twenty years ago an old Christian prophet (Art Katz; he died in 2007 but his website is still up) made this statement: "When a preacher steps up to the pulpit to preach, if he doesn't already have the anointing of the Holy Spirit when he gets there, but goes ahead and preaches anyway, he will automatically have the anointing of the Spirit of Antichrist." Most people think the name "Antichrist" means "Enemy of Christ," which it does, but the original and more comprehensive meaning is "Other than Christ." Basically what it means is "Counterfeit Christ." In any church setting (and elsewhere such as homegroup meetings) the Spirit of Antichrist does everything he can think of to mimic the Holy Spirit. After having had thousands of years of experience he has gotten really good at it, thus making it very difficult for many Christians to be able to discern the difference, so that they may inadvertently succumb to him. The Spirit of Antichrist is one of the fallen angels. The Apostle Paul referred to the fallen angels as principalities (Ephesians 6:12). The Spirit of Antichrist is the leader of the fallen angels and is the leader of kingdom of darkness in this world. In the kingdom of darkness hierarchy he is second in power to Satan and does his bidding on earth (per Revelation 13:2). In the Old Testament he revealed himself to the ancient Canaanites as Baal. They worshiped him because they recognized that he had power over the weather (i.e. harvests>money), and that he had influence over time (i.e. seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years, etc.). Later in history the Babylonians and Assyrians called him Bel (from whence comes the "Eye of Bel," "All-seeing eye" symbol). Later in history the Greeks called him Cronos (our word 'clock' [chronograph] comes from this name). Then later the Romans called him Saturn. Same spirit going by different names in different time periods and in different cultures. The Hindus called him Indra. The Apostle John called him The Spirit of Antichrist. He also called him The Beast (in several verses in the book of Revelation). When a Christian loses the anointing of the Holy Spirit, what the Lord would have them do would be to stop everything and wait for him to reveal to them where they went off the rails, and to do the necessary repenting and getting things straightened out with him so that the anointing of the Holy Spirit is restored to them. Unfortunately however, what happens about 99% of the time is that instead of stopping everything and seeking the Lord to find out why they lost the anointing, they continue on in soul power (i.e. head knowledge, brain power, cosmic enlightenment, the inertia of habit, comparing themselves with other Christians, etc.), and flying by the seat of their pants, and are thus conjoined by the Spirit of Antichrist who 'Brings things to life' so to speak. The problem the preacher winds up with is that due to the fact that he no longer has the anointing of the Holy Spirit and therefore lacks the living word of the Lord in his sermons, he is forced to rely on soul power and to fall back on what he already knows, which most often ends up with him reciting the elementary principles of the faith (i.e. 'feel good' messages), which the Apostle Paul warned not to do (in Hebrews 6:1-3), and probably for that very reason. To compound the problem, if the people hearing the preacher fail to discern what's going on and opt to go with the flow, they too will come under the control of the Spirit of Antichrist who will move on them to give them a warm feeling of acceptance, agreement (counterfeit unity of the spirit), and spirituality (i.e. a feeling like they're in the right place at the right time), and will move on them to become a follower of the teacher (which as far as the religious spirit is concerned is the most important part of the ploy). It is a trait of human nature that people like to hear what they already know because it makes them feel like they're on the right track and therefore makes them feel like they're spiritual (in many cases when nothing could be further from the truth), which is why they love to hear the teacher and his teaching that is based on the elementary principles. This in turn makes them spiritually lazy as they lean on the teacher to do for them what they should be doing for themselves spiritually. This spiritual laziness can then be exploited by the kingdom of darkness religious spirits to mold the person spiritually to be useful to them in some way. Personally, I think this phenomenon is what the Apostle Paul was foretelling about in 2 Timothy 4:3-4 (King James Version) which says: "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." And that is exactly what is happening now in the Western Culture countries (particularly in the English speaking countries). The accuracy of Paul's prophecy is amazing also as in this day and time there are so many professing Christians who have swallowed one of the biggest fables of all time which is the 'God's Chosen People' fable (i.e. fable that empowers the Christian Zionism cult, which is the most insidious cult in the history of the Lord's Church as it sanctions Rothschild's counterfeit 'Israel' which is the physical epicenter of the kingdom of darkness in this world now, and is being set up to be the future hub of the New World Order). In Revelation 2:9 and 3:9 Jesus revealed who today's so-called 'God's Chosen People' really are. And in Titus 1:14 Paul warned his best friend Titus not to be giving heed to Jewish fables. But all of that is another subject. One more point I think it is important for me to make is that in favor of thwarting the kingdom of darkness ploy of control of Christians it would probably be a good idea if 99% of the preachers who are preaching today would quit doing what they're doing and go out and get real jobs and start living normal lives like everybody else.Thinking about it reminds me of this famous quote by Carl Sandburg: "I won't take my religion from any man who never works except with his mouth." It would also be a good idea if 99% of the people who flock to hear these teachers would forego doing it and forget about getting involved in all sorts of religious 'good works' agendas and start learning how to develop a living relationship with the Holy Spirit in the quietness of their own homes. There are several verses of scripture that attest to the truth of this, namely: Isaiah 30:7 (in the Old Testament prophetic books Egypt represents the world system), Isaiah 30:15, Psalm 46:10, 1 Thessalonians. 4:11, Hebrews 4:11, Isaiah 25:9, et al. The Holy Spirit loves us and wants to have a relationship with us, but he isn't going to compete with a bunch of religious tomfoolery. I've been a Christian for 46 years (I'm 71 years old now) and I have tried to pay attention to these things, especially during the last twenty years, and one observation I have made is that when a Christian loses his living relationship with the Holy Spirit and succumbs to the Spirit of Antichrist he gives rights to the Spirit of Antichrist to lade him with a religious spirit who will move on him to take on a hyper religious persona and to get involved in all kinds of busy 'good works' projects in order to compensate for the feeling of loss (feeling of inner emptiness) behind having lost the anointing of the Holy Spirit (this current whacked-out, over-the-top, prolific posting of religious videos on KZread is a prime example of busy 'good works' projects that are posted by religionists who are being driven by religious spirits). Another thing that characterizes people who are being controlled by religious spirits is that they tend to use platitudes (and to present the information as if it is profound), and to be long-winded. The religious spirits will also work on people to inspire them to either become a teacher, or to become a follower of some teacher (or both), as it has the potential to create a spiritual petri dish atmosphere which can spawn a cult, which is another thing the religious spirit will shoot for. If he is successful, once the cult gets underway he will also try to introduce some 'special knowledge/special revelation' ingredient into the mix (e.g. as from a "prophecy" or from a dream or a vision had by one of the 'true believers') that makes the cult members a lot more spiritual than 'regular' Christians, plus it will create a unity among the 'true believers' that can end up as a stronghold that is next to impossible for the Holy Spirit to speak into. All cults are inaugurated in this way and most of them manifest in this way. This might sound like it's totally off the subject but it really isn't. Some years I grow a garden, and about ten years ago I grew a big garden (bigger than I usually do) that took a lot of work to tend to (I live in North Alabama where people's gardens flourish), and one hot summer day I was out tending to my garden, and out of the blue the Lord spoke to me and said: "TV is the worst thing that has ever happened to the human race." Hearing It took me aback, for one thing because it sounded so outlandish, and because it had been awhile since the Lord had spoken to me like that. So I waited to hear if he would say more, but there was nothing. A short while later I went in the house to eat lunch and while I was making myself a sandwich I spoke to the Lord and said "I thought the fall of Adam was the worst thing that ever happened to the human race." To which he immediately replied: "TV is a thing... the fall of Adam was an event."

It says," God doesn't require anything of us, so live any way you want, believe anything you want, even make up your own beliefs if you want, because no one is right, and we are free to ignore any commandments we disagree with." It also shows a lack of respect for the house of God, and the presence of God. It shows we are not particular about how we approach God. It is a hallmark of the "emergent church", which is hatched in the pit of hell. No, it's not "just another way of wearing a shirt."

Am I right in supposing you feel that a preacher should wear something more formal when in church? If I'm wrong, then I'm not sure why you are offended by it. Anyway, I am a worship leader in my church and both our pastor and I (most men in our church, actually) mostly wear our shirt tails out. We are not trying to make any point and our church is actually growing, so I suppose we aren't offending either God or most people by having our shirt tails out. It's just one way of wearing a shirt.

Free thinkers are dangerous and that is the way to find out things that were never meant to be hidden from us , but in this case I have to disagree with you. We all come with an expiration date, and some things come with it. God heals the impossible if it is to elevate exclusively his name, not bill Johnson’s. Jesus could do many other things. He could himself get out of that cross, or heal much more people but He didn`t do it. Who are we to argue with that?

  • @MrCatsuits

Why is this a stumbling block? Maybe he just doesn't care that he has to wear glasses. The reality is, we're limited in this world and are subjected to it. If Bill has prayed about his vision and not been healed, that still doesn't have any implications as to who God is. We don't know Bill's heart, and we don't fully understand how and why God chooses to heal. I think it's great faith, however, for someone to testify of God's healing power while walking in expectation for their own healing.

The comments below of people claiming certain outward expressions allow them certain insight into the heart of the one being watched is horrible, whether it be shirt tails or dancing. You all need to grow up and focus on your GOD you say you worship. HE WOULD NOT BE DOING THIS. There are very important works of God He desires to use His people to accomplish we must all remain in Him and not focus on what we think we see about someone else.

First, the fact that a church is "growing" proves absolutely nothing in relation to whether God approves. There are false religions and churches that are busting at the seams. Second, it is naive to think that the reason these people are wearing their shirttails out can be attributed to a whim. It is a very significant thing done for a specific reason. It signals that you are rejecting any hard and fast doctrines long held by believers. It says,"Have it your way, not God's"
