I'm so glad Bill Hader got hired at SNL. When he started, I knew how previous generations felt when Dan Aykroyd or Dana or Phil Hartman or Ferrell made their debuts...that incomparable feeling of excitement of watching a star being born in real time. He's one of the most deeply talented and naturally funny cast members of all time.

Bill is so genuine and also possibly the most versatile talent. He’s also vulnerable in wanting to discuss his anxiety and panic disorder symptoms which are so common for introverted extroverts. He can and is doing it all. And BARRY is so dark and funny and showcases his actors in such a beautiful way.

I actually think Hader is more of an Aykroyd / Carvey hybrid than he is Phil. I get the comparisons though. I always saw Sudeikis as a hybrid of Phil and Will Ferrell.

This is one of my favorite interviews so far. Love Bill Hader and love the easy flow of this conversation.
All of the Vincent Price skits are Epic, I watch em over and over and still laugh.
GAP Girls catch phrase is: “Did you sinch it?” Still to this day we never shop for clothes without someone saying, “You gotta sinch it” and my 12 year old daughter sounds EXACTLY like Sandler when she says, “Yeah, just SINCH it!”🤣

I have never eaten French Fries for the last 30 years or so without thinking about Chris Farley in Gap Girls.
Great show. Spade and Carvey are really a great duo.
Bill Hader is talented and funny. Loved his SNL characters. The war veteran puppet skit was hilarious Also his Vincent price skits, especially with Fred Armison as Liberace
When Bill Hader does interviews, he always praises or appreciates the people he works with and never hogs the limelight. It makes him so lovable and shine even brighter. I love his work, especially on SNL and Barry and look forward to more deliciously weird shows from him. ... and oh, hi Ds, love you both! I grew up on Just Shoot Me and Wayne's World, and 8 Heads was one of the movies which made me realize that grisly is so fun!

Been looking forward to this one, was NOT let down! Bill gives the impression of having been there to hear a LOT of rejected ideas - his or otherwise. When you can still go strong after seeing/having ideas shot down, you know you're watching a real champ! This man eats comedy bits for breakfast and then sweats talent from every pore!
Barry was an AMAZING show...Season 4 is long waited...

This is one of those conversations you wish could always have. I am so happy to have been a Fly on the Wall.

It must an absolute blast to be a creative person like these guys, and spend your time with other people like yourself. I’ll never know what the business side is like, but I could listen to artists talk all day. These 3 guys have provided so much entertainment to my life. It always makes me curious if they understand the joy they bring to their audience. Dana and David, when I was in highschool we couldn’t wait to talk about SNL on Monday. These guys have covered half my life with comedy, and some amazing drama now that Bill Hader has moved on from SNL.
I’m so stoke you came to KZread. I’m bummed I found you two at midnight seven hr.’s ago when I started listening.
Hader has some enormous ..... comedy talents. That said, some of my favorite are times on SNL when he breaks, just the things that make him lose it and way he does are funny as hell to me.

@@prototek100 There is something to that. Hader has some good acting chops so it might be harder to lose it. I laugh at others too, still enjoy the blooper reels from old shows.
I swear, all three of you (Dana Carvey, David Spade, and Bill Hader) could do a character movie/mocumentary on Lorne Michaels and his roll behind SNL, Kids In The Hall and everything in between. I can't decide between Dana and Bill for Lorne's character, but David would be Marcy lol

I went to ASU too. Had to take math and a few other credits at SCC. I wasnt happy and my ASU counselor said, well ya know David Spade took classes here. And i saw the artichoke my first day there. He was serving samples of artichoke ice cream. My first teacher was the priest i grew up with, asked me not to tell other students he was my priest. Yeah...SCC was interesting right away.

Jesus, let Bill talk!
I do not believe I have ever met a single person who was familiar with Bill Hader and his work who didn't also think he is one amazing talent and also, seemingly, a decent and kind person. Also: D&D DELIVAHS THE PRIMO CONTENT AGAIN!! 👏🔥💯 Gee wilikers am I loving this stuff. Seriously, if I wasn't a committed curmudgeon I'd tell 'ya how good this is with a TikTok video of me gushing in the guise of a half sized blue James Cameron fever dream. Well, my work is done here. Oh wait, I just gotta add that Dana is possibly funnier and even more impressive than SNL era Dana. Dude is gonna be slaying well into his 90s. 🤞 I find it hard to believe the guy is...what...75? I'm just kidding! David. Oh David. OK. Full disclosure. I lived in Arizona for one year of my life. Toltec, AZ. I vaguely recall a dry constant heat, swamp coolers that simply turned the dorm into extra hot Florida, and a truck stop that apparently readily sold JD and dime bags to half brave half stupid 11th graders. Also...boredom...lots of boredom. What I dig about Spade is the balance he strikes between his innate cynicism and resultant hilariously delivered sarcasm alongside his trademark self deprecation. I relate to his core schtick, and knew instantly that this guy had a knack for self loathing that possibly eclipsed my own. I kinda think he's in a class of his own when it comes to well timed and delivered snark. And lastly...There is no place on earth where you can find more impressions. And most especially, of Lorne. I have enjoyed a good Lorne Michaels a bunch over the years and they are especially satisfying to me. His cultured tones and diction are very unique to my native Cali ears. BTW, Those interviews with him are gifts for generations to come. Most especially aspiring comics, but my point is that interview is historical documentary GOLD. Quite a few other commenters have made the point as well. SNL is one of America's crown jewels of industry, and perhaps our most beloved industry worldwide. I tend to have some mixed feelings about 'Murica these days, and Hollywood has it's issues and less desirable "side effects" on the culture, but I feel so proud to be an American when I reflect on all the joy, all the love, all the jobs, and all the future dreams that Great Art inspires in us. It makes me forget about the whole whacking off into potted plants thing. Yay! I've been curious about Lorne Michaels since I was like 6. I'd stay at Nonnie's house a lot when I was a kid and my 11 year older legal adult (ooooohhhh) sister failed to enforce Mom's or Nonnie's early bedtime pipe dreams. She lived at Non's and when I wasn't watching SNL with her and her friends I was staying up waiting for them to come back with tales of SF Discoteques and more annoying "but why can't I go?!" questions. Alright, enough of this nice talk BS. Y'all better shape up or ship out f'er cryin' out loud goll darn darn darn! 👍
i wish this were on video.

Work stress can be BRUTAL. And one of the worst things at the time is how you try to power through it, day in and out, thinking you're immortal and immune but in the long term it really affects your health badly. I worked multiple full time jobs and I've had to cut down my workload and take part time shifts instead - there was a paycut but I had to sit down and understand my body's limits. Long term - your health is your wealth, and there's only so many times you can put your body under immense pressure and stress without it breaking down.
at 12:15 Wasn't it also " just cinch it"?
Spade's constant, ironic, self-deprecating humor never gets old. I'm SO glad Hader & Mulaney killed the Stephon film idea. Lorne just can't help himself. He has to ruin everything with his goddamn over-marketing everything. He sees something popular, then he just has to run it straight into the ground.
Henry Fonda shooting a kid..... truly a wake up call. LOL.
So glad y'all started putting these on KZread. #Algorithm

30:13, Bill reaches out to ask David if he struggled health-wise after SNL. The opportunity is there for a deep conversation on alcohol, substance abuse, a real defining moment for the podcast... Instead David makes a not-funny quip, awkward momement, then immediately David fills it by talking about himself... I'm done. I've tried about 5 different episodes of these guys but I think their target audience is some 40+ year olds that just want nostalgia.
