Nobody plays guitar like Bill. Creates so much with so little. Beautiful.
I always admire Mr. Bill playing the fewest notes still sounding like an orchestra, but I just realized that the true magic was by playing the fewest notes, it would somehow allow the listeners filling/adding own notes in our hearts. We are drawn into his music because we are unconsciously playing music with him. He is really amazing.

I love how masters return back to roots. Most jazzers might first pick up an acoustic when they learn the guitar, then buy an electric and never look back. But then you've got masters like Bill Frisell and Julian Lage who make an acoustic sing and cherish its colors.
Bill's time feel and the tender balance between tragedy and glory is amazing

Sublime, spare and skeletal. Thelonius Monk would have loved it. I can see him getting up, Fez capped, and doing one of his little dances of joy.
Bill‘s playing always sounds kind of mystic and wonderful at the same time. When he plays it feels like the time stands still… it takes you on a journey in your head and letting beautiful memories flow… can’t describe…
It seems so simple to play a guitar this way, it's difficult to think it's actually the hardest way to do it
Bill is the best, always playing the perfect note at the perfect time. True master.
When I was a kid I was fascinated by a musician on Mitch Miller who made his guitar out to be like it was talking. This reminds me of such, well, in a way, because I had the feeling while you were chording and picking that it was unspoken emotion that was resonating out of the belly of the guitar. Nice
Always a pleasure to hear Bill Frisell.
frickin' amazing
Bill seems to be one of the most humble and likeable guitarists around. That he is a master of modesty on the fretboard seems to make sense as well. Noticed he is playing a Waterloo 14 fret, made by Collins' shop. It is simple, but very well made - kind of like Bill!
What a wonderful tone!
Yessss hes back thank god

Love the open string arpeggio lines. Short and sweet
Ah, Bill. You've been an inspiration to me ever since I belatedly bought "In Line" in '89. You changed my guitar world.
As always a pure joy to listen to... I dig the shirt as well...

Bill has a real ability to play with absolutely no ego, so good playing comes across as honest

Jerry Kern wrote so many effortless and non-trivial key changes.
I sing this since I learned it via LP in the Philippines…still y will learn the chords kinda like you did señor Gracias y btw the guitar i always love to have…my Martin om28 is good too❤🎉
Listening to Bill play this standard, one of the biggies that we all aspire to master when we're starting with jazz guitar, makes me feel as if for years I've been missing the trees for the forest.

@High Country Productions Oh, you again ... Why did you delete your previous, equally inane message? I couldn't care less what a complete unknown, who can't even spell or punctuate properly, thinks of my knowledge of music and its practitioners. I can only assume that your life is completely barren, if you invest time in attempting to pick fights with strangers over your erroneous perceptions about their knowledge. Toddler, why don't you get back to playing with your blocks?

Hi bill great video and playing I would love to learn to play like this good day sir
I love how he is playing a Parlour guitar which I are my favorite acoustics especially to play Jazz on. I have a PRS Parlour guitar which is so easy to play on coming from playing electrics.

Bill has played with Norah for example (The Long Day is Over), but he has never been the guitarist in her band. Maybe you mistaken him for Adam Levy, a great guitarist in his own right.

Brilliant! Not a fan of Waterloo guitars but he makes great music with it.
Interesting guitar choice hey

Probably my all time favorite guitar player. Somehow to me it looks like he is always about to drop his guitar and pick. If you turned e sound off without knowing him, you would almost think, I don’t think this guy can even play…0

Then we notice that it's due to a sort of humble attitude of his towards the instrument and the piece he's playing, where he carefully chooses where, what and how to play. Few guitarists (or musicians in general) are so thoughtful in their playing.

Note to Fretboard Video Editor, smooth video editing of a soloist is achieved by changing the camera shot at the end of a musical phrase, not just anywhere within the musical performance. Possibly one of the worst video edits ever witnessed
something is not good with 1 string..everything else is briliant...
Lovely. Would sound better on a nylon string.
I have to believe this wonderful composition may be performed dramatically better than this.
Sounds like there is struggle to find notes.
Too bad the intonation of that guitar is totally wack. It’s not playing in tune anywhere on the neck.

I think he's proving a point, that one can make great music even on a Wallmart guitar - or as the addage goes "a good rooster can crow anywhere"
Not really that impressed with the arrangement or his playing actually - it’s a beautiful piece written by Jerome Kern and the few poorly timed licks and chord progression didn’t do to this beautiful number justice - it had the potential to be so much more enjoyable and moving IMO

When recording acoustic guitars, string squeak is a miking problem, not a playing problem.
@davestagner
2 жыл бұрын
@aaron singer Having recorded a lot of acoustic guitars in the hands of a lot of players… mic technique is absolutely #1 when trying to control string squeak. A well-placed mic can silence the squeakiest player, and a poorly placed mic can make even the cleanest technique unlistenable. Yes, technique matters in an unmiked situation, but changing fretting technique just to control noise can take years, because fretting needs to be largely unconscious and effortless. If you’re thinking about your technique, it severely undermines your playing.
