    I have watched several of your videos and I can say, with all sincerity, that I have learned more from you than any other online lesson. Your clarity and structured approach is perfect for those of us who are learning jazz piano. And, it is FREE!!! Thank you. I find it baffling that some of the comments from other viewers are so negative and critical - makes me wonder why they are bothering to watch your lessons as they must be amazing jazz pianists who should start their own channels and share their wisdom and virtuosity with the world.

    Hi David, thanks for the comment and my pleasure - I'm glad you are finding PianoGroove tutorials useful. I do put a lot of work into planning, recording and editing each lesson so it's nice to hear that it's appreciated! If you have any questions with any of the material just let me know and I'll be happy to help out. All the best, PianoGroove

    I agree, its very straightforward and easy to learn, but as you get better you should check out Kent Hewitt's page for jazz, there are a few more but I would say PianoGroove and KentHewitt are the best youtube accounts to learn Jazz

    I agree with you for the negative comments, but there are only 2 I think, and one is from one I can see in many youtube lessons of different jazz piano teachers...don't consider him, I think he's a stupid and frustrated guy who has nothing else to do in his life. (sorry for my english, I'm french Québécois)

    Excuse me but SOME of the lessons are free. I look everywhere to find jazz lessons and when I found piano groove, it looked good BUT it was not free. Now I use the lessons on KZread but I don’t understand a THING. I am very disappointed ☹️. That happened a year ago and I am STILL LOOKING FOR A FREE COURSE

    Hi PianoGroove thanks very much for your clear explanation and also the transposition of the solo to the other keys! This makes it very tangible! And of course what a beautiful solo by Bill! I was wondering why one would go for rootless chords on the left instead of chords that do include the root? I just learned all the 2-5-1’s including the roots and considering first learning the rootless chords before starting to go on with improvs. TIA x

    I took jazz University level and the treble melody lines were never identified as 9th, 13ths, 11ths. They were always used as passing tones. Meaning 1st, 2nd 3rd etc up to the 7th. 13ths r always chords, never individual notes. 13ths mean 6th + the 7th together anyway

    Cm7 isn't Cm9 and F7 isn't F7(6/9)? That makes the chord sound so nice I think...

  • @PianoGroove

    @PianoGroove

    9 жыл бұрын

    +Stemma3 Yes the extra notes do make it sound much better! Jazz musicians tend to refer to chords just as a '7' even though it will most likely contain extensions such as 9s, 11s & 13s. I mention this in my lesson on chord extensions which you may find useful: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aKlos8-fk5ianto.html Thanks, PianoGroove.

    You can't really play if you think now 13 then 5 , etc.That is autopsy of a dead body.Improvisation process includes creating emotion, etc.Of course you have to build language....but that's just the beginnig.

    +zubbubbi It's a lick for complete beginners, the intention was not for it to be overly challenging. If you want to spend the time and effort to record, edit and publish your own Bill Evans lick, I would love to see it.... keep me posted. Thanks, PianoGroove.
