It's funny cuz Shaq was talking to a WNBA player who was complaining about the pay awhile back and he suggested that they lower the rim a bit so women could dunk more to make the game more exciting. The WNBA player got mad at him for even suggesting it. Make it make sense

It was tmac who suggested it, at the ESPN Jump, with Rachel Nicole. Brianna Stewart (WNBA player) got bit offended. And I agree with wnba players. Even if the rims are lowered, it cannot make up for the lack of athleticism. I think they must have experimented. And all they saw was 2-inch-jump sloppy sad dunks that no one would want to watch either.

Wnba players on average make $102k annually. That's in the top 15% of earners in this country. Also, keep in mind that the wnba operates at a LOSS every year, and is subsidized by the NBA, which earns $8 billion annually.

  • @orlock20

I went to Ventura Community College and had to pay a fee to subsidize the college's sports because they were losing millions. The only extra curricular activity making money was the live theater. Millions of dollars was being lost a year by just the men's football team and this was a two year college. There are way too many sports teams out there. Even the top sporting events have lost viewers let alone ticket sales.

You'll note that most professional female athletes don't push things like this. They're tuned into the industry and understand what value they bring to a sponsor and how much they're worth. The vast majority of the bleating sheep calling for "equality" are completely ignorant of the industry. They don't actually want equality, they just want men to have less and women to have more, regardless of whether or not they earned it.

There are plenty of industries where woman on average earn far more then men(modelling, reality tv, internet streaming etc). I was glad Bill mentioned the woman fighters of the UFC because they've been killing it for awhile now. The product they put out is quality and they've earned their money. Nah but I honestly think the few woman who are blaming the poor financial state of their leagues on sexism are just hustling, I can understand the reason why as nobody wants to struggle to earn bread but it's still annoying.

There are women that can dunk, but in the NBA it's now about the 3-point shot so the dunk is not thei thing that draws the crowd. However, men's basketball is very sloppy when it comes to the rules and that's on purpose. They break the traveling rule, screening rule or double dribble rule every minute which would greatly slow down the game.

The English woman's football (soccer) team just won the European cup for the first time and it was a big thing over here in the UK, it was pushed a new dawn for women's football. I hope it is, but the fact is the men's football league kicks off next week and everyone will forget about the women's achievements including most women. That's just how it is. I’m a fan of the game so I always enjoy basketball no matter who’s playing it. I don’t disregard the skills of women like some people do. They are very skilled and talented. But women’s sports just isn’t an investment of mine. I just feel like the best athletic women just don’t play ball. Most of the freakish athletes in women play other sports. And the wnba suffers because of it. Imagine if some of those world class track athletes, tennis players, gymnasts, and volleyball players played basketball instead? The game would be far more athletic and fun.

There are so many interesting anomalies in the male vs. female sports issue...like gymnastics, women historically pull much better numbers, same in figure skating. They tend to have equal viewership in track and field, tennis, and swimming. But they get killed in basketball and soccer. However, they destroy the men in volleyball. Now, obviously, the money is mandated to be equal in tennis, but every other pro sport, it's based on popularity and unfortunately, the sports I mentioned where the women are equal or superior in popularity are mostly amateur. It's an interesting phenomenon with a lot of possible reasons...

Seriously. Smh. When I played baseball, the opposition used to be like, "Good game, 3." In football, "Nice hit 3-7." (Idk why not 37, but three-seven). Regardless no offense taken.

You don't get an instant stream like "Michael Jordan, Shaq, Kobe, LeBron, Medowlark Lemon" (I'm not actually a sports fan, I'm surprised I can name any... and I know the last one is a Harlem Globetrotter)

thats not true. i've heard about women's football (soccer) since i was in high school. billie piper's "because we want to" was used as the anthem for them back when i was in high school (early 2000s) and their championships were talk about all the time. i dont have cable so no way for me to stumble upon it nowadays so cant speak on it in 2022

Lol no….Womens soccer might draw a local crowd of parents and friends but stadiums of pro womens teams dont fill up seats. Some countries get more than others but nowhere near the amount for mens games. In womens games they usually dont even have assigned seating bc there are so many open seats they let you sit where you want. Cant do that at mens games.

Only the biggest games get viewership, not the day to day games. Hardly anyone watches the mid-season games. If womens soccer is being talked about, its either World Cup, Champions League, or Euros

they already have the ball smaller, 3 point line shorter but somehow they are offended about a suggestion on lowering the rim? people wanna see dunks! period. there's a segment that i watched i cant remember it but a former nba player suggested to a recent wnba player to probably lower the rim and she got offended and told him "that's what you just want us to do, dunk?" im on the couch like bill burr yelling "no but it would be nice to see a dunk every once in a while".

Kidd did well naming 5 WNBA teams, but Bill’s point was more about women being able to do that. Cee could only name 1, strengthening Bill’s point(s). The soccer player you were trying to think of was David Beckham from England with model good looks. The other player was Cristiano Renaldo (you mentioned Messi). To appreciate Renaldo’s skill please take 2:20 to watch the link below. He disguises himself as an old man and heads to a game of top amateurs. At first they try to politely usher him off the court. Then he turns it on. His skills are Harlem Globetrotter-ish in soccer!

It's funny you mention them because WWE is basically live action soap operas for guys. People pretending to tear each other down much the same way as those other shows Bill mentioned. Nothing against the WWE but it is certainly "made for TV" entertainment.

Women sports is like a 10 year old Toyota. When you bought it new, it's reliable, up to date technology, no maintenance problem, got commercials to advertise to the public. Now its 10 years later, it broken down, need to be fixed frequently, no commercials about a 10 year old car, got scratches and dents. But still drivable. Then expecting the resale value to be the same as a brand new car.

In France we talk about women's football. But just talk, and just a little. Not that much. And, guess what, men know more about it than women. Like Bill says, women don't care. They ask for something but don't make it happen, like it's a due, a given. That's called a privilege
