--------
Bill Bellamy's comedy career skyrocketed after he performed on the inaugural episode of "Def Comedy Jam," a groundbreaking show that featured an all-star lineup of Black comedic talent. Bellamy reminisces about sharing the stage with icons like Bernie Mac, Dave Chappelle, Damon Wayans, Jamie Foxx, and Chris Tucker. He fondly recalls standout moments, including Adele Givens’ memorable joke that had audiences in stitches and Martin Lawrence’s unparalleled hosting prowess.
However, despite his rising fame, Bellamy faced a humbling moment when he was denied entry to an exclusive Def Jam Christmas party in New York, circa 1991. At a crucial point in his career, Bellamy and his entourage, including several models, were turned away at the door due to "capacity issues." Watching major stars like Mary J. Blige, L.L. Cool J, and Jay-Z breeze past him into the venue, Bellamy was left determined to never face such rejection again. This experience fueled his ambition and drive, pushing him to solidify his place in the entertainment industry.

Martin Lawrence also had his own stand-up comedy showcase on Starz from 2005 to 2010 called _1st Amendment Stand Up._ There was also a _Bad Boys of Comedy_ that aired on HBO in 2005 and 2007. There was a bunch of other Black stand-up comedy showcases between the 2000s and early-2010s, such as _ComicView_ on BET, _Off The Chain_ on Bounce TV, and _Bill Bellamy's Whose Got Jokes?_ on TV One. Afterwards, all Black showcases got canned and then the mainstream stand-up showcases like _Last Coming Standing_ got canned too. More recently, since 2020, Comedy Central largely stopped producing new stand-up. The half-hour-long specials series got canned. They rarely air any new hour-long specials. It's just _The Daily Show_ and old reruns. Comedy Central has a KZread series where they occasionally upload new stand-up but that's not even a real TV show and the audience is small.
