    nice one - great ride and video dude, I love the SDW on bike, it can get really technical and steep but things like the views and full send down Butser make it worth it! great ride, awesome video work, well done

    Checking out some vids of the SDW trek via bike. I am too riding the Downs from this weekend. I will be using an e bike but one still has to put the peddle work in. I pulled out 6 years ago due to injury from Winchester to the Sustainability Centre......but will carry on from there Saturday aiming for Bignor area but staying at Gumber Farm. Thanks for sharing your video, enjoyed it. Made me smile when you cheered whizzing down the hills. Best Regards.

    I can't help wondering how many extra miles you do putting a camera down, backing up, cycling past it, and backing up again to pick it up... It definitely makes the video more interesting to watch. I wouldn't have the patience!

    Great video I did this about 7 years ago, some of the signage was a bit dubious, and you are right about no shops it feels remote despite actually being close to civilisation. I used an old klein mountain bike 26 inch wheels, and I was amazed how many climbs there were. Also it was damp on day and those chalky bits were as slippery as hell, I crashed on one bit but only landed in nettles which made me cycle really hard up the next hill as an antidote to the stings. I am thinking of coming south to do again as I have ordered a sonder and you provided perfect inspiration many thanks.

    Great vid. As a former Hampshire boy who now lives in the North East, I recognised so much of the first part of that route, particularly the awesome downhill which I know was Butser Hill, highest point on the South Downs and one of my old stomping grounds, brings back many happy memories 👍😁😁

    Great video! I have a question regarding the camino gravel bike. I just purchased the camino AL. I see in the video you had a puncture. How is it when you replace the inner tube? The reason i ask because i saw a review that it is very hard to remove tyre and inner tube from the wheels. TIA!

    Awesome vid. I’m binge watching these now! Any particular reason why you are not running tubeless on the Sonder? Also, what gearing did you have? You said it was over geared, but would be interested to know the ratios.

  • @KeepSmilingAdventures

    @KeepSmilingAdventures

    2 жыл бұрын

    I do sometimes run tubeless, but the rear wheel has a bit of a dent in so I couldn’t be bothered with getting it set up on their, so I just taped the inside of the tyre for extra protection, which I have done in the past with good success. My easiest gear was 46/42 at the time. A bit grindy for them hills.

    @@KeepSmilingAdventures Fair enough. I’m doing the King Allred’s Way in early September with 42/42 and fully loaded. Hoping it’ll be low enough to cope with most of the hills. What do you reckon? I suspect I may be having to push for a few of the steeper ones on occasion cos the bags and all the gear etc is going to add best part of 10kg probably.

    @@paddyotoole2058 42/42 will be perfect for king Alfred's i did that on a 46/42 and was able to ride pretty much everything. The hills on that route aren't really that bad.

    I'd like to the SDW and King Alfred's but my only concern about this and (bikepacking in England in general) is the trespass aspect of wild camping. Is just a case of apologising and getting the hell out of Dodge (or Cocking...) sharpish if the landowner stumbles across you? Or are most landowners sort of ok about it - as long as you don't come across as a total arse?

  • @KeepSmilingAdventures

    @KeepSmilingAdventures

    2 жыл бұрын

    Trespass is a civil matter so its not like straight to prison. The owner would have to sue you for damages, and prove you actually damaged something. So obviously don't damage anything. Leave rubbish etc But basically set up camp late where no one is around. and leave early. and the chances of you being found are tiny. And if you are so unlucky to get caught by the land owner, just be respectful apologies and if they want you to leave just leave.

    Aha no worries, just get the easiest gearing you possibly can, there are a lot of ups and downs. If weight is a worry one thing i could suggest is just carry one smallish water bottle as there is loads of taps a long the way.
