BIKEPACKING THE GB DIVIDE - THE LENGTH OF BRITAIN OFF ROAD [FULL EXPERIENCE]

Спорт

This is the entire experience of the gb divide bikepacking ride, from john o Groats to lands end off road, for those that want to watch the whole thing in one go. This epic trip will have us traverse the length of scotland england and wales off road, through the rugged mountains of the scottish highlands, the rolling hills of the Yorkshire dales and the tiring pennines, before heading into wales and traversing the snowy and wet mountains. And finally into the south west of england for the final push to lands end in cornwall. This is the GB divide FULL EXPERIENCE.
This was ridden and filmed in early march 2023

Stumbled across this unexpectedly but have just watched in one go. It draws you in. Great piece. The Scottish section looked fab but some of the sections further south looked like such a chore and admitted the fact that you rallied every day, particularly towards the end, and ploughed on. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for your incredible video of your bike adventure. I live in Seattle, WA USA and we have riding here, but our hills are quite different than yours...no rolling hills here. Only vertical. I pedaled my indoor cycle with the resistance turned to high as I suffered along with you on your journey. I couldn't do the hike-a bike sections of course. We all appreciate your incredible stamina, willingness to keep going despite the inclement weather and accompanying physical discomfort, which you minimized, your interesting diet (lots of calories for sure) and eternal smile in the face of adversity. You are an inspiration for all!!!!

GPS devices were not brilliant in those days. Like the route except the bit through Manchester. I will re-route to bypass it. Bristol's not great either but it skirts the edge by the looks of things.😀

GB divide looks epic, well done. I felt your frustration with the goretex getting wet then later i was told that goretex is waterproof or breathable but not both at the same time, this allows moisture to build up inside! I have had various items work well untill the repellant that beads water off brakes down and that leads to this issue of wetting out. Keep smiling 🙂🤙

Am at the end of the your second stage. Fantastic scenery - well done so far ( in real time watching). One question please - the upright grips you have attached to the drop bars - where did you source them & what are they called? I have a new gravel bike and have drops but ordered shifters and levers to suit a sweep bar for more comfort upright on touring (older rider here). Corrieyairack Pass - incredible scenery….You just cracked Scotland - congrats! Ride out of Haltwhistle looked tough & the Pennine Bridleway pretty ‘draggie’ alright! Looks like a day off somewhere before the Pennines on Hadrian’s Wall might have been an idea?

Congratulations, it's a hard journey. Unlike day rides or training rides, if the wind is against you and it rains, it could be doing so all the way. I used to ride regularly between Southampton and Edinburgh carrying all I need, self sufficient. How did you choose your kit? I agree BTW with another comment here that a small gas stove with aluminum pot etc. means that at least you can have a warm drink. Did you have to wash and dry clothing? With water, tools, spare clothes, food, something to wash and dry yourself with, you did well to get everything on the bike. Everything, I understand, is a compromise when self sufficient, but do you think that maybe some heavier duty wheels and tyres would be an advantage? I used to ride 32 mm tyres and use aluminum rims and tape spare spokes to the chainstay. When you were riding the off road sections with boulders and puddles, I was holding my breath. Thanks for this video, well edited, it recreated my past experiences.

Hello, I'm posting here to get a bit of advice. My wife and I are purchasing a pair of camino GRX2s with a thule chariot cross for our child and are planning on doing this route this autumn. It looks like most of the route outside of Wales is suitable but sections of Wales would be completely unsuitable, even if dry. Would you be able to point out which sections wouldn't be suitable (in general terms, even narrowing it down to "just parts of wales") for us so we can plan alternative sections in advance.
