Bikepacking on the GDMBR from Whitefish Montana to Red Meadow Lake (Day 19)

Bikepacking on the Great Divide (GDMBR) from Whitefish, Montana to Red Meadow Lake.
This is DAY 19 of my first solo learn as I go bikeapacking adventure.
32 Miles
3,600 Climb
In this episode I'm bikepacking the GDMBR (Great Divide Mountain Bike Route) from Whitefish, Montana to Red Meadow Lake. It's a wonderful grade until the last 5 miles where you'll hit a 10-13% grade of hike-a-bike. I meet some wonderful new friends who invite me to watch a meteor shower from the most epic campground spot which they were able to snag.

@@HumanontheLooseI was thinking about Tom and his struggles and how you were such a ray of light in a tough time for him. I kinda had an epiphany moment that when we go through our individual struggles or as right now our country is going through tough times if we take the mental approach of its not happening "to us" but happening "for us" it might be the way our soul gets the true value of the lesson. Your video squeezed that out of my brain! How about that!

It really doesn't matter! I joke often that my bikepacking cook pot has to be large enough to heat a can of gas station chili. My personal cold out a can favorite is corn nibblets. I love how you helped the men through your wide eyed kindness and honesty, if for a moment to do good for themselves. Watching you climb and hike those passes makes me appreciate my pie-plate rear gears on my dirt road tour set-up. With so much to see in the world, I am with your one and done travel. Look forward to the next episode.

@@HumanontheLoose Doable but tough. Roughneck in my youth and we would punch a couple holes in one lid, toss up on a motor manifold and heat. Gentle heat. My dirt road bike has 1x12 SRAM cassette that is 11x 52 tooth, and looks as big a a pie plate. The long cage derailleur looks like it could drag the ground on my 27.5 wheels. I make fun but with that little clown car front chain ring paired to “plate”, the Surly can climb.

Another fun one! Thanks! One of the tips for keeping the soot/char off the pan is to put a thin layer of soap around the pot. The soot/char will stick to the soap and it will come off much easier. Just don't get carried away, using too much will get into your meal.

Another option to reduce pot exterior cleanup when cooking over flame is to cover the bottom and up the sides with a piece of aluminum foil (removing foil to a clean pot, and of course recycling the foil). As mentioned soap is another good solution…

ANSWER: If pigs can’t sweat, why do we have the expression “sweat like a pig?” The term is derived from the iron smelting process in which hot iron poured on sand cools and solidifies with the pieces resembling a sow and piglets. Hence "pig iron". As the iron cools, the surrounding air reaches its dew point, and beads of moisture form on the surface of the "pigs". "Sweating like a pig" indicates that the "pig" (ie iron) has cooled enough to be safely handled. And that's a "pig" you wouldn't want to eat.

What Life Should Be To learn while still a child What this life is meant to be. To know it goes beyond myself, It's so much more than me. To overcome the tragedies, To survive the hardest times. To face those moments filled with pain, And still manage to be kind. To fight for those who can't themselves, To always share my light. With those who wander in the dark, To love with all my might. To still stand up with courage, Though standing on my own. To still get up and face each day, Even when I feel alone. To try to understand the ones That no one cares to know. And make them feel some value When the world has let them go. To be an anchor, strong and true, That person loyal to the end. To be a constant source of hope To my family and my friends. To live a life of decency, To share my heart and soul. To always say I'm sorry When I've harmed both friend and foe. To be proud of whom I've tried to be, And this life I chose to live. To make the most of every day By giving all I have to give. To me that's what this life should be, To me that's what it's for. To take what God has given me And make it so much more To live a life that matters, To be someone of great worth. To love and be loved in return And make my mark on Earth Patricia A. Fleming ☮️kevin

The canyon and the desert. A pile of rocks, dust and sand. Sure, it looks nice. And after that? They will still be soaking you for every dime they can squeeze out of you. Florida has the everglades, the keys, Ocala national forest and more, Fort Lauderdale beach, Miami beach and more. If you become employed, think of all the money you could save. There is a cross-Florida bike path (c to c). There is a bike path around lake Okeechobee---second largest fresh water lake in surface area in the US totally inside the boundaries of one state. I wish this condo were larger. I like you. Forget about crime-Mecca AZ. Everybody thinks much the same about car wrecks and crime---It happens to the other person, not me. The thing is this. To everyone else, you are the other person. This neighborhood here is nice. It is not a dumpy neighborhood at all. Did you say you had photos of 9-11 of some acclaim? I have written a manuscript, about 60,000 words, to do with that subject. From all I know, it is the only one of its kind in the world. Last time I checked, I have a publisher in Manhattan, NY. There is quite a bit of revising to do. I need to get re-motivated. Have you seen the rents in Phoenix and Flagstaff? I f you get cheap rent, guaranteed it will be in a low-down, crime ridden area. In nicer safer areas the rents would be astronomical.
