a trailer for the e-bike or alternatively some paniers would be a much better option to carry your gear in....I did lots of tours and short camping trips on my mountain bikes back in the day so I know from experience it's better to keep the weight off your back(and butt lol) and keep it on the bike instead....thanks for sharing Jason!

Hi Jason, I feel your pain with boiling water to purify it! One camp hack for that, is to place the hot boiled water in the pan, in that nice cool stream. Cools down fast!

As always, great video. I wanted to add that bicycle trailer that you use to cart around babies/toddlers works great for this! You can pack more stuff and it is more comfortable to ride.

Love to see your videos. Been in the area for a couple years myself. Black Butte and the Sisters view are awesome 😎. Try just off the Jefferson Lake trailhead road near Candle Creek, there is an awesome little fire ring camp on top of the ridge with a 180 view from BB to Mt Jeff…the trail to Abbot Butte from there is awesome!!!

Great video! I love it when Black Butte makes a cameo in your videos, so far the only Oregon mountain I've stood on the top of. One of these days I would love to take a trip down to your beautiful State and climb the South Sister

this video is so timely for me! i have been doing alot of overland vehicle based camping in the last year or so, and have been wanting to get into some backpack/ bushcraft style camping. thanks for sharing your experience

We went to the "Vehicle Free Wednesday" at Cades Cove, in the Smoky Mountain National Park yesterday. The Smokies are the most visited National Park in the country, and Cades Cove averages over 2 million cars per year that drive the loop. However, every Wednesday from May through September, it is only open to bikers and hikers. I've ridden it about 8 times now, and I am not sure that I will ever drive it in a car again. The Park states that 5,000 people per week ride it. I said all of that to say that I am always amazed at the ebikes that I see on every trip! To get passed on some of these hills by "Granny Blue Hair" and have her to openly laugh at you as she zips past can be a bit humbling! LOL! Loved the video, as always.

We just talked about this video at expo, I honestly can say I enjoyed it very much and look forward to seeing more. I am a true Oregonian full of love for our state and believe every moment we can take to enjoy it is a moment we'll spent.

I totally respect what you are doing on the E Bike. Before I started this whole Overlanding thing, I did Adventure/Dual Sport motorcycle riding.... Small motorcycles. More dirt than street friendly. Met a lot of Great people and friends,,,,, But falling off hurts.... You never expect it to happen... Then it happens. Broken collarbone, spiral fracture of the right tibia... ATGAT. All The Gear, All The Time. You wear a lot more gear riding a motorcycle. Why I lean towards Overlanding these days,,,, I guess you need to learn first hand what its like to fall and break your collarbone. No cell reception. Pick yourself up and your bike, ride 20 miles out to the nearest signal....I rode solo....

That is a great idea and a super reason to invest in an ebike. My initial reason for getting one was just to ride around camp site areas and/or run to the local store for supplies. Using it to go camp away from the van is such a great way to spend a night away from my van. My brother uses his ebike to traverse up mountain trails to find those epic vista's. Awesome video and photography tips as well.

That first sip of morning coffee is always the best, but sitting in the doorway of your tent with an awesome view it is oh so much better!

Your landscape shots. What you needed is a neutral density gradient filter. 1.5 to 2.0 stops. Maybe a little more. That would make the ferns pop with the beautiful mountains still singing in the warm light. Filters of this type highly recommended for landscapes.

I love the van life content Jason, but this solo wilderness overnight camping is awesome. Don’t stop bro, keep chasing your dreams.

Really enjoyed this one. Completely different then what you normally do. I've been thinking about doing the e-bike thing and camping out over night, but I'm already pushing max weight limit on these bikes with body fat alone, not including the gear I would bring with me. Probably have to stick to my truck and trailer or walking.

Another great vid. You might want to wear gloves when you're riding. I've come off my bike a couple of times out in the dirt and they can really save your hands.

Any chance you might consider doing a short series (maybe 4 or 5 videos) about your take on landscape photography? Still photography philosophy and what to look for in setting up your shot. I liked how you described at various points in this video what you were looking to photograph and what was or was not working the way you envisioned. I think folks would find a lot of value in that type of tutorial. Thanks.

Backpacking with a bike called BIKEPACKING, greetings from the Netherlands

I ride on the road so may not be pracical for bikepacking ofroad, but for range I use a cyclone IV trailer, carrying 6x 558W batteries , held in place by foam with battery inserts. The trailer has 2/3 of its 100 litre space free for camping gear etc including a 65l rucksack.

You have a great conversational tone to your videos which is hard to appreciate. Being alone most of the time like you are, I'm sure it can be hard to talk into a camera as if it's a person.

As always love your content. You might want to get some plastic or tarp/Tyvic as a ground cover for your tent. It will help your tent last a lot longer as a long time backpacker. I just need your skills to start a channel. lol.

I really enjoyed this episode. Thanks so much for taking us along on your adventure. I did a bit of bicycle camping in my youth, and loved it. Try this: stop drinking coffee, or ingesting any caffeine at all. It will change your life for the better, I guarantee. You can get small, lightweight back-packable camp chairs that will make your time at camp so much more comfortable. Also, a manual bicycle tire inflater could save your bacon on the trail. Rock On

You have a great eye and clearly understand the light. I miss the days when photogs were limited in the number of shots they could take (film days) so they had to take their time, focus, and really find the best shot. These days, it seems the digital world has made it so people just snap a hundred photos without thinking and “fix it” in post. Nice work. Water purification hack: After you’ve boiled the water, put your bottle back into the creek. It will cool down to drinkable temperature very quickly.

When doing a shot like that do two separate exposures and layer them. Chicken Tereyaki is one of my favourites, if only they would not add so much sodium!!!

The whole moisture thing in air mattress is an urban myth ha ha really I hiked pct last year have thousands of miles in backcountry my neo light and other pads have never suffered any issues or accumulation of moisture as a matter of fact my neo has about 4000 miles on it no issues at all I found on the PCT, that the bag was an annoyance and sent home . I mount my whole pack on rack of my quietKat. Love your channle

You're drinking cowboy coffee? You need to step up your coffee game honie. Have you heard of Wildland coffee? I've tried every method of trail coffee out there Wildland is by fer the best. Coffee that comes in a tea bag. You just boil your water and steep it for a few minutes.
