Bikepacking is HARD - Thunder in Paradise Loop

Essentially my first time Bikepacking and I decide to do the Thunder in Paradise Bikepacking loop in central Idaho. If you are new to Bikepacking like myself you may want to consider starting off with something a little easier. Don't get me wrong, it was worth every painful rotation of the pedals but one should ease into it. My Salsa woodsmoke did awesome!
if you have any questions about the other equipment / gear I used please leave me a comment and I will get back to you.
Thank you and here is a link to this great but challenging ride...

Thanks for posting. I live in Boise and am thinking of doing this one in spring/early summer this year. It’s good to see what it’s like! How was the camping and resupply options?

it was an ass kicker... i would recommend plus sized tires as the first stretch to Atlanta is a pretty sandy road. The Camping was great, i didn't stay at the camp ground near the hot springs in Atlanta but I heard it is nice. As far as resupply goes there really isn't any options. there is a bar in Atlanta that you could get a meal in needed, if they are open but there are no stores. I carried all my food for the trip. Have fun!

11,000 feet?!?! Dude, that is impressive. I live in the Southern Appalachians and our highest point in Alabama is only 2,413 feet. Laughable for you guys out west. LOL!

i should clarify... that was the total elevation gain on the trip i would say the highest point i was at was at Trinity lakes and that is around 7,700ft but yes, it kicked my butt 😅

Hey McQ, I've had bikepacking on the some year soon list for a a few years. I hadn't thought much about how hard it will be -- thanks for the that! Still looks pretty cool! Great shots!

What is up my man!? It was hard but it was also perhaps a little to ambitious for my first real trip out. In the end however it was so worth it. Get it off the some year soon list and put it on the now list! :)

Likes/dislikes of the Arkel seat bag? Am I insane to be planning to make the TIPL my first bikepacking trip? With a bad knee? Great vid, thx

Hey Mike sorry for the late reply... This was also essentially my first bikepacking trip and when I met a couple other bikepackers and stated this they informed me that it was pretty ambitious for a first time ride. I would say if you have a bad knee you may want to try warming up to this one as the climbs can get pretty steep. That said i don't want to discourage you from doing it. It was certainly one of the hardest things I have done but was so awesome as well. as far as the seat bag goes I don't know that I have any complaints as of yet, it worked out pretty well for me and is very easy to put on and take off of the bike. Good Luck!!

These are great! Shot with that zv1? How did you make the little map that you flash up on the left? I’d love to do something similar but my skills aren’t on your level. Thanks for the uploads!

thanks for keying in on the map cause that took me forever...😁 I created it in After Effects and like you, not sure my skills are all there as I would probably have to look up how to do it again... but that is a powerful program that i have just scratched the surface on. you should give it a shot and try something small to start. good luck! you can do it...
