In today’s society this is a no-win situation. Calling the police during the theft would do nothing but lose the opportunity to collect incriminating evidence. No one’s life is involved here- it’s just property. By recoding and asking if it was his bike, he got the suspect to face the camera unmasked. Bravo. This is the best case scenario- and as unarmed security guards are trained to do: just Observe and Report. And while it sucks to watch it happen, if anyone were to physically restrain these men it would cause an altercation and risk not only their own life but also endanger the innocent bystanders if these guys have guns or weapons.

Scumbags aside, don't spend over £1000 on a bike and have under £20 worth of lock securing it. My £360 2nd hand had one 2 £45 locks for a short stop, if I was going to be away a while I'd leave 4 on it. Sadly you have to make it too difficult to snatch quickly.

People who were there and didn't react are just as guilty as the thieves.

Doing nothing and just recording it was the smartest thing to do. You see that tool he's using...that's nothing you want to get cut by. Notice, that he isn't working on this alone also. Another thought is having to back away and think of the bigger picture. Who's to say it was just these 2 numbnuts doing the robbery without a third or forth person somewhere else watching...just incase someone does try to get involved.

All well and good you saying that until they pull a knife or something on you. You have no idea how brazen and quickly something like this can turn into something else. And just say for argument sake you do something i.e knock him out, you will get more time in jail than he will. It's all backwards, no one's going to do anything. Guy did this in Belfast in a university bike parking spot that had manned security and cameras too. So it's not just London or on the streets. My friend literally had the bike a month to get to uni and that happened. Security guard claimed to not see it but he let us see the footage. Kinda funny how easy it is to get away with stealing bikes.
