Welcome Center rest stop , just off the i-65 starts this trip. Nearest township is Elkmont, A or Ardmore, AL. Late afternoon running south towards the suburbs of Birmingham, AL. Just past exit 361 is a small truck stop run by Suncoast Fuels (right side). Exit 351 is the connection to Athens and Huntsvills (US 72) at 13 minutes. At 24 minutes is the major junction with i565 (starts here going east towards Huntsville) exit 340A/B. At 27 minutes the truck starts going over the Tennessee River flood plain and on to the bridge that crosses the river. At exit 334 there is a Pilot Travel center on the right side in Decatur, AL. At exit 322 there is a Love's Travel Stop just after the bridge on the right side (Falkville ) 42 minute and the sun is setting. At the hour mark only the large signs are readable because of fading light. Truck stops at exit 304, Jack's Truck Stop on the left and exit 299 a Petro's truck stop (right). Steve takes the exit 299 for Petro's. Map states it is Dodge City, AL. Turns right on to 69 with a beautiful golden orange sunset in the background. As usual the truck stop is full to the brim. Over night stop before the assault on Birmingham on Monday morning.
