Bight of Benin & Biafra: BASIC NIGERIAN HISTORY #12

In this episode Dr Catel investigates both the Bight of Benin and the Bight of Biafra discussing the various powers that existed during that time. Discussing the oracle of Arochukwu, as well as ports in Badagry, lagos, calabar, dahomey and bonny.
BNH is going to be like a crash course (or an edutainment series) on Nigerian history, but along the way will also touch on other parts of West African history.

The name of the Arochukwu oracle is Ibinu-Ukpabi but Dr Catel chose not to say this as he failed to pronounce it several times. 😁 Patreon link has changed from patreon.com/ronucreative to patreon.com/ronuspirit Also bibliography and sources can be found in the description

This build by Benin traders that where trading with the Europeans who first came to Benin kingdom to buy slaves and other antiquities. So Mr MAN please stop saying what you don't know or refusing to say the truth because of personal and tribal interests. OBA is not a Yoruba name. Oba is a Benin, edo name. In the 1940s and 50s there was nothing like oba in yoroba land. It is all imitation of Benin. There is no oba like the oba of Benin Edo people of Nigeria. No wonder the British heard about Benin wealth and antifacts and to fight the Benins and stole them. Where were the yorubas and the ibos. Use your common sense.

Oga you lie bight of Benin was name after Benin kingdom, Benin kingdom comprises of olu of warri, obi of agbor and Oba of Lagos because that was the only organized institutions the others were weakling, eg Oyo,ife and the rest were weaklings that was why the Fulani captured them and even sold them as slaves. Just forget this pride analogy you just gave to burst your ego is the British that rised Yoruba and igbos this two ethnic groups suffer more during slave trade, there is nothing like bight of Biafra we only have bight of bonny which cover from guinea down to Cameron no Nigeria environment is part of bight of Biafra or bonny

The Biggt of Benin refers to the Benin Kingdom in Nigeria. One of the Kings of Benin Kingdom founded Lagos and called it Eko. His Son -Addo was the first Oba of Lagos and the Oba of Benin was the Chief slave master or seller. Republic of Benin changed the names from Dahomey to Benin taking it from the Bight of Benin. Thanks
