    I don't know if the new owners have ever had a log home, but they will never tire of coming into that aroma of the wood. For the 10 years I lived in one, it was always a comfort to go to that home. Honest!

    Like watching a giant jigsaw puzzle being assembled, wonderful. The guys seem to work in well oiled teams and know their piece of the home through and through and the lady crane operator is amazing. Of course these guys couldn’t do their bit if the people who originally cut the wood, each lot unique to each 🏠 after that there are the fellas who come and lay it all out in the right place according to the plan without them the clockwork building teams would spend all day trying to find each log they needed. The brain of the man who originally came up with this idea must be AMAZING. When I eventually find enough money to buy a log cabin in the woods and mountains I know just where I am going to get it built !!

    At 9.45 I see 1 of your men using sealant in a cordless caulk gun,what type & brand have you found to work best ? I've always used Vulkem because I've found polyurethane sealants to have the best adhesion with no shrinkage while being impervious to all types of weather .

    @@AmishMeadowsOfficial Thank you for your answer,im a Commercial & Industrial builder with 42 yrs on the job but have zero experience building with logs, your tip to use Sub Floor Adhesive will save me several thousand dollars as Vulkem & other Tremco sealants cost over $10 a standard tube ,if I can bother you for 1 more tip it would be to ask which brand/type of screws you use to secure each run of logs to the previous run ? As im sure you know there is a huge cost range & every manufacturer i speak to claims their screw is the best ,Firestone makes a smooth shank screw with 200lbs of lateral force loading but the cost is so high I've got to look elsewhere ,thanks.

    how long do you let your logs dry out before you build a home out of them? I am a disabled Navy Vet who does small wood working projects and I have to worry about wood movement as the wood dries so I just wondered if you have the same issue. Some of your cut offs wood make beautiful bowls if turned on a lathe.

    Most of our logs are harvested green and then air dried for a few months. Sometimes we are able to find and purchase dead logs from the forest but we actually prefer thinning the forest and using green logs and air drying. It works out well and the end result is what you see on our videos and website.

    Hello. What is the temperature outside in winter? Won't it be cold to live in this house all the time?

  • @AmishMeadowsOfficial

    @AmishMeadowsOfficial

    3 жыл бұрын

    During the time we built this home in November 2020 the weather was around freezing or a little warmer all of the time. Now deeper into winter it drops a little bit below freezing. Our climate is probably similar in temperature to eastern Europe where we can get a lot of snow but not every winter. Logs are super energy efficient so the home will stay toasty and warm all the time and it will never be cold in this house. Log Homes consume less energy to heat and cool then almost every other kind of housing.

I can't decide whether to get the Dewalt or the Milwaukee. I actually have a couple Milwaukee 12v tools so I don't really care which I get as long as it's good. The one condition though is I need to get a 10 oz gun and a sausage tube gun and I would like to stick with one brand or the other for these guns. Thanks for any insight you can give me.

  • @AmishMeadowsOfficial

    @AmishMeadowsOfficial

    3 жыл бұрын

    When we harvest the trees from the forest some of them are dead and dying, and some of them are live, called green trees. In every case they are cut and selected to improve the health of the forest. So the logs that are green we take the bark off and allow them to dry before we use them. There are several sources of gasket in the United States and all of our gasket products are USA made so I’m not sure how to get them in Russia. But I would think you could find a supplier for a similar gasket there because there is also a log home industry in Russia.

    @@AmishMeadowsOfficial I agree! In Russia, very highly developed wood industry but such processing of wood and construction is not and it's savagery, I'm not an organization, as an experiment I want to build a house, but realizing the essence of the structure I think for cottage construction is the best and budget option for Russia, we have such gaskets are placed on doors and Windows to be tight, but between the logs put hemp or moss(this is a forest grass dry), but I saw that you use the foam in the joints between the logs??

    In 2020 it was probably about $800,000 USD. In 2023 maybe $1 million- this is just an estimate since Meadowlark does not finish the homes so we don’t provide total cost but just the log package and the reassembly of roof systems, windows, and doors.

    I don’t know what kind of wood that is used but I don’t care for the look of the spotted wood or bark half shaved off. Is that the only wood they use? I know that pine and maple are soft woods but we have a lot of white pines where I live.

    The species in this home are Larch and in the eastern USA it’s called Tamarack. Most of our customers request the skip peeled look as you see it. We can also do a clean peel at the customers request. After we buff the logs on the interior they do look cleaner and after we pressure wash on the exterior prior to staining they also look cleaner.

    The house was 6-12 roof pitch and the garage was 5-12 if I remember correctly. It’s pretty tall inside and when you go higher than this on a single level the costs increase because there’s more materials and labor. I think the home was very proportionate with roof pitches heights and everything. If roof pitch was any taller it begins looking a little odd for the overall design.
