That's just for the extra thick ferro rod which they originally was charging $39.95 They must be getting plenty of pushback ..they're adjusting their prices

Very fine review and comparison. Yours is the third video I have seen today for Bigfoot Bushcraft fire plugs and ferrorod, so the company must be contacting a lot of people for reviews, but your video was easily the best and most informative of the three.

Thank you Mark. You always do your best to replicate true to life conditions. Starting a fire when everything is dry is usually quite simple. 38°F with rain is when easy fire starting may save a life. Just wish all KZread "bushcraft" producers could get that through their heads. You provide a valuable service especially to the novice.

The best Firestarter ive ever used is a DIY fire starter. 100 percent cotton round, soak it in melted petroleum jelly, let them dry on wax paper. Once dry, dip them in melted wax and let them dry on wax paper. you can even do a second coat. The wax makes the waterproof and ive had one cotton round burn for over 10 mins. Love your channel. Good and honest as ever, Mark. I have the procamptek as a backup to the wood wool and natural tinder, not sure if the Bigfoot are available in the UK. Also like friendly Swede fire steels, not sure if you have heard of them. Thanks Mark and take care 👍🙂

I've had good results with both of these firestarters and will say that Bigfoot Bushcraft seems to be running a permanent sale which places their fire plugs much closer in line with Procamptek's. I don't have their ferro rod so can't speak to that, but the BFB tin is nice and does hold many, many plugs. For me, even though I have and use both products, I choose the Procamptek fire plugs more often and would use them exclusively if need be. The BFB plugs are a bit greasy, which is fine if they're in a tin or sealed away somewhere, but I carry Procamptek plugs directly in my pants pocket as an emergency tinder source and they last months rising around as part of my EDC. They light right up, don't leave any waxy residue in my pocket, and are not at all greasy.

Not only is the bigfoot bushcraft three times the price, but its twice the weight and twice the size with the almost the same exact amount of burn time. and the only advantage is its a little easier to fluff and better fiber ratio. in my opinion with all that in mind and triple the price, does not actually make it a superior product, just a product taking advantage of peoples wallets. Especially in times like these where every dollar really counts. I would rather spend less money, carry less weight, fit more product in a smaller area, and spend a few more seconds properly fluffing up the procamptek. thanks for being honest and genuine in your review.

The few of these things I use, I always light them from the end. I figure it's not so much about intensity, but duration. So I light it like a candle. So for the test, you could light the other end.....if it's your last one. For the fire steel, do you have a couple favourites? I'm looking for a new one, and I'd like to get a larger than the typical light my fire one, but I know nothing about any type or brand being different. All I know is the coghlan one sucks.

Jim, I mostly use a 5"x1/2" I bought on eBay. Just a plain rod that I wrapped duct tape around the end. Having said that, I do like the larger Uberleben rods. They do seem to work well. One rod I have not tried yet but do want to is the Firesteel.com rods. They are rumored to be better than others. My understanding was that there were only the Light My Fire and Chinese made rods but that could have changed. A 5" or longer rod allows for a long strike, generating more sparks, as long as a good striker and good technique are used

As someone who uses cotton balls or dryer lint rolled in petroleum jelly, and sometimes dipped in wax for waterproofing, can someone tell me if these kinds of products are much superior in a tight, wet, situation, or are they just for saving one the time it takes to make your own? Thanks.

You asked for suggestions to improve your comparison. I would have liked to see you ignite (or try to ignite) them separately as well as together. I understand that the efficacy of ferro rod strikes can vary greatly from one to another, and you wanted to eliminate that variable. On the other hand, when the fluffed portions a touching as they were, we can't tell whether they both lit at once or one ignited and instantly ignited the other.

I guess Fire Plugs serve a purpose but I have yet too see it. Most of them i.e. ProCamptec melt in the Summer Heat and stick together. There are better fore starters out there, i.e. Fire Ropes that have life time warranty that work better.

I think that was a very fair comparison video. Based on what I saw, I’d buy the Bigfoot Bushcraft product. If my life might depend on me getting a fire going, I’m not going to quibble over a few dollars. As for ferrocerium rods, I don’t buy them with a handle because THAT is a real waste of money. Why pay for a 5” rod that you can only use, at best, half of? I buy the Bayite rods with a hole drilled in them and add a paracord lanyard.
