Big Truck at Crater Lake NP // Full-Time RV Life // Is it REALLY that BLUE?

Explored Crater Lake National Park and hiked down to the lake inside the Crater. Toured on a Trolley and saw a 500-year-old tree and a Phantom Ship! Wow!

    Thanks for the great videos of the Harvest Host site. We are also HH members. I have noticed that you run two GPS units. That got me to thinking since we also have a VNL780 and a 47ft New Horizons. Since we are the same size and almost weight (55k) of a fully loaded OTR rig prompted me to think if there are features in the OTR GPS units that would be an advantage? We currently have the RV 1080 that does provide some nice feature for RV's, but we are basically an OTR rig. This question was trigger by your comments about STAA approved truck routes. Is one of your unit a OTR based version?

  • @bigtruckbigtravels

    @bigtruckbigtravels

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Benny- thanks for the comments. Yes, one of them is a Rand McNally Trucker GPS. The advantage is it will alert you regarding restrictions on your route. The bad news is that many of those routes are ok for RVs but commercial is not allowed. We run both and verify with a Truckers Road Atlas to insure weights, clearances and such.

  • @bennyrstafford1678

    @@bigtruckbigtravels I suspected that was the case. I checked the Garmin website and see the feature differences between the Dezl series and the RV series. There are advantages for both. However, I can see the comfort in having an "OTR" focused unit while on the traveling down the road. We have learned that a good GPS and Google Maps are a must for us. Thanks.

    Thanks for the comment and your time watching the Channel! I really like having the trucker GPS and the RV GPS especially when they both agree. When we are in transit and they don't agree we pull out the Atlas and Google Earth (assuming we have service) to see what the discrepancy is and then we make a final decision on who to follow. The OTR will never allow you to go thru a national park so I mute it during that section. 🤫

    Thanks for the comment Joe. I might be a little biased but I think David does a great job putting these videos together (especially with all the random shots he has to deal with 🤦‍♀️). There are actually two tanks on the truck. Both 60 gallon. One fresh and one waste tank. "Going Rogue" around 22 min David talks about the fresh. In the "Plan Q" video around 28 min mark David is dumping waste water into the truck. Eventually we'll do a tour of the truck and trailer. 😉
