    I was so pleased when I struck Fortress tyres on the vorteks and turned up,at the bash spot, proudly claiming that I was now gonna be able to do a decent backflip.....only to hear that horrible noise on the very first jump.. so now it’s a question of widening it or trying stiffer front shocks so that the there’s less chance of rubbing when the suspension compresses.

    Speaking from experience the most frustrating thing I had to deal with was breaking driveshafts. I put the sledgehammer tires on a rusty 4x4 vxl and those stock plastic driveshafts could not hold up, so be prepared to drop a pretty penny on some decent driveshafts as well.

    Great video on a great topic! and you could go much deeper on scrub radius :) different tire (bigger or not) can effect the handling in wonderfully interesting ways. carcass shape can also effect the scrub, and alot of car use negative scrub as well.

  • @jadc
    @jadc2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks, very interesting. Do you notice much of a handling difference with the unsprung mass increase, or is the effect minor compared with the tire scrub difference etc? I haven't tried increasing the wheel size on any of my RCs, but did wonder if it was worth doing on my Arrma Vorteks because I know the wheels can buckle with a bit of abuse. (That said, my wheels have been pretty solid).

    You never mentioned that the added size (leverage) and mass is going to screw up your suspension settings making them feel softer than stock. But an important thing you never mentioned is that you will BREAK YOUR TRUCK MORE! The extra weight and leverage is going to add considerable more stress to the entire vehicle, especially the suspension system.

    Isn't that common knowledge or common sense? It's like mounting 33x12.50x17 muds on a stock silverado 4x4 1500 and not getting the ecm flashed for different shift points and accommodating for the circumference of larger tires to match your speedometer and etc.

    I heard a lot of downsides in this but there are actually some upsides that you lightly touched on, but the main thing that's a BONUS I enjoy is the higher top speed with a slightly larger than stock tire as long as you're set up can handle it. It might not be quite as fast off the line but your top speed will be higher with a larger wheel in my experience, haha of that is as long as you don't go crazy w the up sizing thing here.

    ... I'm adding some wheels to my merv.. there only 2.2 rims... not bad on the bigger end... 5.12in tire tho... hehehehehehhehehee... I'm not gearing down for the absolute beat of a motor I have in ther... I'm gearing down so I don't 1 blow my tires trying to spin em at rpms they should never come close to seeing... I'd probably get over 120-135 mph easily.... heh... 2 I'm mildly worked about diffs n axles busting... so slower speeds less forces... tho I'm gearing down to as low as I can... the tire diameter makes up for it... heh

    Oh yes! You've been lucky indeed. Ppl around me constantly brake servos because they don't set their endpoints correctly. I do this every time I change tires or servos and so never brake them. If one fails on me then usually because it's old and the gears or the motor were outworn which will eventually happen to every servo.

    I'm talking about when the shocks bottom out. You don't want the shocks to bottom out before the chassis, because there's nowhere for the rest of the energy to go, and it will break the shocks rather than dissipate the energy throughout the chassis.

    @@RazorRC why wouldn't the chassis break or anything else attached to it. ? Like the sensitive electronics. Bottom line. These cars should not go so high to come down so hard. Specially the big cars. The heavier it is harder to go high and down. I have never landed a big jump without breaking something. I have never drove them without breaking anything. Or wearing it out , down, up. Whatever. Don't tell people they can do something that will void warranty if it breaks. This industry is such crooked. It's not even hobby anymore. There would be more customers if they engineered them for hobby applications not making money applications. Specially the failure modes.

    I know and you did great job on it. . But let me ask you about tires. One of my cars is a typhon mega I upgrade to 6s because I had electronics so I got mega to upgrade . Now I know why they make 3 different cars. And the any one of them are not rollers/sliders 2s stays 2s. 3s stays 3s and 6s stays 6s. Anyway. I did get some 6s dboots Katar 6s tires from ebay for $50 for set delivered. . They last me for a single run. And when bold down the center and out. Indicating no traction . Just spin the heck out till bold and foam in one tire went bad. I do have the hacker B50 2686kv with traxxas 6s vxl. And I did go with 3s spur and pin. I mean maybe I have gearing ratios off but one run on those tires ? I'm just trying to understand if they are fakes for the price ? Or my car too powerful. ? The stock mega driveshaft and motor mount and axles are all holding up. So I don't have too.much power. . I'm playing around with this obviously. And would like to understand if those tires were garbage or what other devilry the arrma people worked in this.
