Big Thinkers - Tod Machover [Composer & Inventor]

Big Thinkers is a former ZDTV (later TechTV) television program. It featured a half-hour interview with a "big thinker" in science, technology, and other fields. Interviews were filmed in a 16:9 format and intercut with public domain material from the Prelinger Archives. This archival footage (mostly film clips from the 1940's and 50's) was used to create visual metaphors highlighting the speaker's points.
This episode features Tod Machover. He is a composer and an innovator in the application of technology in music. Currently Professor of Music and Media at the MIT Media Lab, he is head of the Lab's Hyperinstruments/Opera of the Future group and has been Co-Director of the Things That Think (TTT) and Toys of Tomorrow (TOT) consortia since 1995. He has designed and implemented various interactive systems for performance by Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, Matt Haimovitz, the Ying Quartet, the Boston Pops, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Penn & Teller, Peter Gabriel, Prince and many others.

This is brilliant, and eerily similar to what I have been having in my mind.... I mean immersive music composition environment, and more intuitive to use than standard instruments we have today.

The ideal instrument he is describing is being developed when you look at music now. Look at those Dj and music making applications, although they do not have the feeling of being alive like physical sound they are so digitalised but....I think it's only a matter of time.
