Private security pays big buck in South Africa. Some firms are poaching operators from the police anti terror unit and offer them monthly salaries between 100 and 150 thousand rand which is equivalent to around 8 thousand dollars a month after tax, they get offered medical, funeral cover and in some cases like the firm I work for educational allowances

Security companies conduct operations in support of the police all the time. The police and all law abiding citizens have no problem with it either!

Amazing country grew up there left when was 10 years old. Corruption in politics and high crime ruined the country. Hope South Africa in next couple of decades improves massively as have great love for the country.

It's a police roadblock. The coos usually call in private security for extra hands. And under law we are allowed to run roadblocks if we have a police presence with us

Since always. Under law private security is classified as law enforcement agencies. As for the warrant, the south african constitutional court ruled that if you are stopped at a roadblock you are obliged to present any and all documents requested by law enforcement

Who gave the authority for a security company to conduct a roadblock. This does not seem right. Yes perhaps good work was done here but at the end of the day, a security company does not have the right to conduct road blocks on public roads and search motor vehicles. This needs to be investigated with a matter of urgency!!! Its because of shit like this that the security company in White River thought they can act the way they did a few weeks back.

I was involved in the Shell Road to Fame where we had auditions in the townships of all major cities in SA even whilst some townships burnt in the mid 80's we still continued to find SA's best musical talent. So I know the 'real stuff' and it ain't pretty...that is the reason I left SA.
