BIG Spoons - BIG Fish - AMAZING Fishing!

This fishing lure is a game changer! I was blown away by the numbers and size of the fish that I caught on this spoon while others on the boat fishing traditional rigs struggled. This lure was invented for Largemouth Bass fishing, but is tearing it up in saltwater!

And just like that, every spoon was sold out in the NorthEast! Mr Sinner is truly a legend and thumbs up for the captain, sacrificing his fishing opportunity to keep ‘em on the fish. Excellent work all around

They are sold out lmao
I've watched just about every one of John's videos and at this point I'm convinced it's the stripers that are trying to catch John, not the other way around.

Everyone gets a little excited on KZread when it comes to fishing, nothing wrong with that. Once people watch more instructional videos like mine, I think they start to understand what's really going on with this platform. @@maritimeus
Great trip. It was amazing watching John reel in one fish after another with his rod and the new spoon.
With spoons and slow pitch jigs like that, if you want the jig to drop down quicker you don't want to lower it with slack line because it will flutter all the way down and take forever to sink. Instead put a little thumb resistance on the spool and this will keep the jig straight up and down and sink much faster. It will keep it from fluttering

Good to know.
Just wow big stripers everywhere, great video Mr Skinner as always is a pleasure for me to see you fishing and teaching all those long years of experience
I dont think those stripers are starving & underfed,LOLLL!
I've been using the Nichols spoons for several years. Although originally designed for largemouth bass, they can be ordered upgraded "saltwater" hardware. They have been amazing for redfish, jack crevalle and various other near shore species.
Awesome video John as always!!! Mike Smedley and Team Old School slaughter the Stripers on Nichols spoons in Raritan Bay and the Chesapeake even in shallow water. I just got one of the Nichols spoons and haven’t gotten a chance to use it yet.

I was fooling around casting one, thinking it would be a disaster but I could cast it ten yards without much effort.
Always learning. Traits of a Master.
Heck of a Captain! I fish Muskies in Canada and the Nichol’s Magnum is MONEY! The spoon slips backwards as you ease the line. That is the allure to the fish. Most Folks can’t Jig as aggressively as needed while constantly feeling for the bottom. They are usually “done within 15-minutes. Sweet! I don’t fish heavy current so I use heavy duty spinning gear, cast, allow the lure to slide backwards till it just “ticks” bottom. I use white 30# braid and am a “line watcher”. Lure does get hung up at times but I have a 2-3oz. Lure Knockers that you clip on the line and allow it to slide to the line/lure connection. Jiggling usually releases the snagged lure. Be well and appreciate the video.
YOU ARE THE BEST! Thank you so much for amazing video you can buy the Tony Maja Custom Drift Spoon from amazon
thank John, I love your videos!!!
Awesome man. Love it. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome job Rick.
Wow...even John Skinner learns new things about fishing! Last year was big spooks, this year big spoons!
yes! John Skinner spoons!!!!! that's what we need!
I saw this boat being launched at gull pond, nice young man had just tuned her up and improved the navionics for his dad. Man, what an awesome machine!
John that was impressive... Really nice bass! Thanks for sharing. Team Old School would agree...
And........ there goes one of my secrets when I used to spank 'em on the OBX.! Surf casting , Many good memories! 1997-2006, rip Last one on the massive spoon was 2005, reels n wheels striper tourney. Excellent John.
9:13 to 14 .. line goes completely SLACK just after John is saying he just got hit and thought he missed it ... LOL
Well that was just insane. Who would have thought in a million years that a simple spoon would out fish, and out size anything else on the boat. Might have to try a variety of spoon sizes for some bottom fish like black sea bass/porgies. Great video as always.

Face it guys. It’s not the spoon - it’s skinner.
I have been fishing the Nicholes for a few years now. Very effective spoon. 👌 You will find out the more you fish them, the bite usually happens on the way down. Great video👍
Freshwater spoon fan here, and it's a joy seeing such large saltwater stripers being brought up on big spoons.
thats honestly incredible
The LEGEND, John Skinner whacking em on the flutter spoon!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍😁

That trip was quite an eye-opener. Couldn't believe I could get it to the bottom in the Gut with that depth and current. You have a great channel. One of the few fishing channels focused on being educational.

Wow now that was the best I've seen you do. That was awesome fishing Skinner. 🔥🔥🔥
Holy, this was satisfying!
Thanks for your video 👍
Good morning from Philippines. I always enjoy your video. Keep safe and God bless always 🐟⛵
Awesome fishing...that "spoon" is a must have for the arsenal
Awesome video John! Wow.
John, im pretty sure you can put a coffee mug with no hooks down and you would catch fish. Great video as always.
"Ho-lee sh*t. Looka the size a-dat thing!" My favorite part.
It's 2022 times have change in with the new and out with old John skinner spoons are gonna be a hit 🤣🔥
I use them on large spinning tackle for stripers where you can dump the line letting the spoon quickly get down to depth. Found you can have the spoon drop faster vertically with very slight finger resistance as it free spools down vs the normal jigging action of barrel rolling in complete free spool.
Thanks John I have one of those Thundermist Lures Spoons. I wonder will I get to apply it with more education. Also those T-turn swivels.
Speechless, I'd like to see you do this in your kayak now John. Haha way to go really nice fish and rod buddy!!
It’s a dream of me to one day fish with a LEGEND like you sir. I am new to fishing and love your videos, so informative and fun to watch :-)
Great day on the water John. Ive had success with flutter spoons as well this year but havent had a day like THAT yet!
those fluttering spoons are amazing(also quite a workout) if you're on a boat using sonar, cause they're designed for the stripers to hit them on the way down as it's fluttering. bucktails are still more practical, especially for people that are fishing from shore.
John accidentally dropped the spoon down his boot, and when he pulled it out, had a #30 Bass on..👍🏻👍🏻🤩🤩
That's savage!!!👏👏👏
@John Skinner Fishing for someone who's never fished a spoon before, you doing quite good brother. Keep at it you're catching nice stripers
What a trip. One thing important to note is the Gut and the Race are holding a body of bass not seen in decades right now.
Mind blowing.
Amazing John one of your best videos. Congratulations from Giovanni, Western Long Island sound.
We've been using big spoons here in Kansas for as long as I can remember for Stripers. I first learned about them back in the early 80's.
Wow amazing fishing my friend 👍

@@JohnSkinnerFishing That was a really great idea!
great video I love the fishing content!!!! :))))
I was in a tackle shop today grabbing a few things and overheard one of the guys working there say he’s gotten about 150 phone calls in the last week from people asking about flutter spoons since you posted this video. Then he said “if I get one more f’n phone call about something from a John Skinner video I’m ripping the GD phone out of the wall, I f’n hate hearing that guy’s name”. I almost laughed out loud. Just picked up a copy of Fishing the Bucktail, great read so far. Thanks for all the informative videos! Apparently mentioning your name in a tackle shop is the equivalent of playing Stairway to Heaven at Guitar Center 😆🤣😂
WOW....thats impressive!! ive never tried a large spoon before....curious how it will work out in the northeast!!! great video sir keep up the excellent work!!
Amazing video. Thanks for sharing, John. I hope to see more of these spoons from you
Man I could feel those head shakes, well done
GREAT VIDEO JOHN WE HAVE BEEN USING THESE SPOONS THE MONTH OF JUNE IN THE WESTERN SOUND AND ME AND MY FISHING BUDDIES HAVE CAUGHT WELL OVER A 100 LARGE STRIPPED BASS EACH ON MY BOAT.
dream day Skinner
I had the same success the very first time we went to Raritan Bay this spring. My buddy was like yea right a spoon? Good luck. First cast 32 pounder. He says you have another spoon for me. LOL
You the man!
Not for nothing I have to be honest every time I skunk out all I have to do is watch one of your videos and bam puts me right back in the game mind set wise
Awesome 👏🏼
Good job man!
Rod sold out already! Congrats!
👍 big fish after big fish cool video
Your a beast John
Time to forge the John Skinner spoon! Consider this me pre-ordering.
You’re fishing my fav spot, we’re in Westbrook leave a few for us….lol tight lines Frank!
HAMMER TIME! GREAT TRIP!
I've been killing them on the kayak with the magnum flutter spoons since last year and it's best with slow pitch rods and smaller 200/300 size baitcasting reels. Saves your arm from falling off while jigging all day.
I agree 100%. The hardest part is feeling when you hit the bottom, especially on a drift… I lost a $27 spoon the other day! 😡
the only thing more exciting that this is my new sci-fi novel, Book of Answers
You sure makes you look like Superman out there man you the man
your the best John, been with you since you had 8000 subs... I would love to do a charter with you here on the island
Amazing catch, what a fishing trip!!!
Rick is definitely the man! behind every skin er there is a Rick lol awesome video I guess I'm gonna have to try to make some they are super pricey for a hunk of medal
Awesome
Longfall jigging with a slow pitch jig produces similar results in 120 to 300ft over structure in Southeast Fla.
hi, John! amazing video as always! I wonder this is so similar to slow pitch jigging variation - sounds have to pick right weight and skinny line to get down to the bottom. quality fish. also 3way rigs (did it with my friend same spot) get boring sometimes...
Been using for FW stripers for 3 or 4 yrs. Very effective
Nice to see those big stripers. Look pretty healthy; might need a bigger net!
Spoon was working magic haha
This is similar to some methods used in Canada and Midwest US in lakes when a full downrigger outfit is not feasible. Flutter spoon or large fly, enough lead to get close to bottom and careful throttle on the motor.
Hey Hey. Mr Skinner 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice!!!
I've been crushing it in the western sound this year all on 9in ben parker spoons, bass to 30lbs and havent got skunked in last 6 outings . Learned this tactic of fishing from Mike smeedly's youtube page he's been using them for years .
Another great experiment for you would be to go back with black, white, glow, and chrome spoons if possible and do the same experiment as you did for the weakfish!
Started using these in the Raritan in 2019 and they’re incredible. Usually fishing them a lot more shallow than this video (15-40’ or so) but it’s encouraging to see you can fish them deep too. Don’t worry - you’ll still be able to bucktail them in the surf 😳.

How shallow can you use them? And what weight line do you need. Can you drift with them. I'm in the barnegat bay.
That was fun and video too short. Rick is the good dude to keep you guys on the fish.
Guess I'll be buying some Skinner flutter spoons for the fall
I love how his bros always incessantly ask if he needs the net
Awesome videos. We use the same size flutter spoons for our fresh water largemouth bass here in California too.

@@thomasstreahle2793 Not so much, big jigging spoons have quietly been used for striper fishing for decades , they are just now coming into the spotlight.
Yes sir 👍🏾🔥
John i wonder if you experimented adding a little weight to the top of the spoon like a trolling Drail? People who have fished the gut ( and Race ) know the tide gets ripping and holding bottom can be difficult. Obviously any weight u add may cause the spoon to stop fluttering properly.
Fishing with VInnie of the karen anne in Jamaica bay it was just like this..my first time using the flutter spoon too
Wow!!!
In heavy current I use a In line sinker top of the spoon to my line work well for me.
We used to use big krocodile spoons in NJ doing the same thing. Sadly, they’re no longer available.
Ahern tackle makes an 11 inch 6.5 ounce flutter spoon for the deep drops!
Really interesting. I want to try that spoon for deep water muskies on the Niagara. Nice job bud.

And that's the thing. This probably works on fisheries that no one has tried the big spoon on.
So its like a giant flat slow pitch jig
