We watch those that go for 100% go down in flames all our lives. Living what a man deems is a good peaceful nice life for him, is GREAT! The person who's goal is 100% is always reaching and working to get to it, while his life is rapidly passing away. Also living in the 100% world is a black and white world. An "I made it, I didn't make it yet world." When we do get to meet a man who is at 100%, he says , It so very lonely at the top and just hates that.

It’s ok to pivot after you get the things you wanted to achieve. Even going after something meaningful may feel like the wrong path when you get there. I’ve started projects for my business and as my kids have gotten older I’ve completely abandoned those projects in order to spend more time with my kids before they leave my house for good. After my kids have moved on I’ll revisit projects and decide who I am at that point and what is meaningful to me then.

Have had 3 different jobs these last 3 months and just trying to find a place for myself somewhere and to be happy/satisfied. And the stress level’s been massive. I was on my last job for a month and I felt completely burnt out at the end of that month. I’m 27 - that should not happen. 1 month of work should not make you feel burnt out.

I am curious about this spakitype typing after hearing his description of himself. I strongly relate because I have a constant drive to create or make things, art, music, contraptions. It is much more fulfilling for me to make the thing than to have the thing. Having the thing is almost a side effect of my real driving motivations. I have music, and paintings, and inventions that would probably be enjoyed by other people, and would probably make me money, but I don't think I cave the capacity to monetize it. Jordan peterson presented the idea of the curse of creativity to me, and man I identify so strongly to that that it's almost literally painful to hear.

Great discussion. Though I would ike to share with you after several decades of research on the main root of our burn out situations. It is our social isolation. We humans have been living in social groups mainly large ones. So the individual was not impacted with stress as today. The group supported in everything from the day the individualis born until death. But today we are socially isolated. So each one of us carries the stress alone while we are not made to do. In addition our societies are built to keep harassing the individual and dismantle all social groups strating from tribes, clans, large families and even the small families. So we collapse. In tribal societies stress does not exists. Unfortunately the society we live in today benefit economically and politically from our isolation. We turn to be easy to control and to consume more due to stress and fear. We are Unfortunately not able to change it anymore.

People who say the work system is slavery are unrealistic. Slavery is responsibility without authority, you have all of the authority in your life. Infrastructure is expensive to make and maintain. Your housing is expensive to build and maintain. Your car is expensive to build and maintain. Your food is labor intensive to grow and ship to your stores. The schools you went to were expensive to build, maintain and operate. People act like they have no choice and are wasting their lives at their job are completely unrealistic. It's your standard of living that keeps you at your job. Financially, you could pretty easily buy land way out in the country without electricity, without internet, without a car, without a phone, and bike to get groceries but you don't because you're accustomed to your current standard of living. TL;DR lower your standard of living enough so you're still comfortable, but you don't have to work so much. Stop buying brand new phones, stop eating out every day, stop leasing brand new cars every few years, get some roommates, start buying food on sale, and sure as hell make sure your post secondary education will pay off. You chose this, so stop complaining.

I think burn out happens because people drink after work every day to excess, they overeat and they’re overweight, and they don’t exercise.

Interesting that you said how to we make a work environment with room to "breath," while employers are forcing workers to wear masks. Communism is here. We need to clean house, first.
