Kevin on paving new paths has the same pin box on his 42 footer he was having the same issues that you where having Tom nice hitch

I have been using the Gen-Y Gooseneck for over two years and love it. Very well built and a nice ride. We have a grand design reflection. Glad to hear you like the new setup. Safe travels

We also bought the GenY and have a BMW hitch too! We love it.

You can go to a truckstop and if you see a car hauler, you can ask him if he will check your height. He has a height stick, which is very very accurate.

We plan on going full time rving. I’ll be putting gooseneck hitch on my 5th wheel. No tug tests, and no big ole hitch in the back of my truck when I’m unhitched. Looking forward to getting out on the road.

Just got a Gen-Y gooseneck. We just took an 1,800 mole round trip. We love the Gen-Y.....

Tom - Contact Gen-Y and send them a photo from the clip at 10:14. I have the same hitch and your torsion bars are too flat meaning I think you have to get a higher rated pin weight gen-y version. They should not be flat especially before the break-in period. That said, that is a great improvement

I agree, they probably sold you the 4.5k but you should have the 5.5k. The torsion bars shouldn't be flat, check the sticker on the side I bet it is in the red.

I have been using the Gen-Y Executive torsion flex 5th wheel pin box for 2 years now and love it! We are only weekend users but it changed our towing experience for the best! Hopefully you experience the same results. Safe travels.

You must’ve felt such relief. I can hear it in your voice. What a debacle you’ve been through.

Your clearance looks great now. I have an f350 crew cab long wheel base with the B&W fifth wheel hitch and Roto Flex pin box on the Dutchman Yukon 400RL set slightly nose high. It levels perfectly when we load for trips. The clearance between the truck and trailer have never been an issue. Good luck with your new setup. I think you will be fine as your clearance you have now looks identical to mine.

@@EnjoyTheJourneyLife You would love having just the gooseneck ball in the bed and also the chain connection points . A five pound gooseneck ball is much easier to move than a several hundred pound hitch .

I started out with the Andersen hitch when I got my 5th wheel. Went from that to the Gen Y executive gooseneck. Loved the ride from it. But it was a bit harder to get hooked up because I had to basically be right over the ball perfectly and it had the front of the camper so close to the tailgate that I had to get close and then close the tailgate to get over the ball. So at the end of last year I got an extremely good deal on a used B&W hitch and got a Gen Y pinbox. It is still in the break in period. But I love it so far. Easier to get hooked up and still has the smooth ride over the transitions in the road.

My rig came with a rotoflex-lots of chucking. Next the MoRryde, far less chucking. Looking at the GenY

Etrailer is awesome, I have the best help from them getting the right stuff for my trailer, anyone upgrading or replacing parts, call them, they'll give you the help you need to get the job done. Thanks from West Plains Dave.

We have the gooseneck version of the GenY on our 397TH-R Momentum. We have the 6.5K version, did not notice what rating yours is but by looking at your installed and hooked up pictures, you probably need to exchange it for one with a higher rating. Your torsion bars are at the wrong angle, especialy for a new one. That one will probably bottom out when you hit bumps and ride rough. Enjoy.

I have a Reese Sidewinder and they do not work well with a Curt A20. The wedge does not go in tight enough, too much slop which translates to poor handling. I locked it, have an F-450 now and the ride is OK, no porpoising, but stop and go has that Clunk jerk. Its the Curt A20 that does it because it moves fore and aft on rubber mounts. I am considering replacing the 5th wheel hitch, again. This was a good chance to see the Gen Y in action.

I would never run any hard cover type pulling 5th wheel. Roll up 100%. There is absolutely a desired clearance between bed and camper. 6-10 inches is what you should have.

You mentioned the rust issue, and they installed the new hitch right on the rusty pin box. They could not take the time to take care of the rust and paint it!

I still use a Reece hitch and have been pulling different 5th wheels for 18 years, I’ve never had any issues with the hitching and pulling of any of them. I don’t think it’s the hitch’s but maybe the hitcher?? None will work if they aren’t done correctly.

I would move the hitch down a notch and see if you could get the trailer more level (not so nose high) and still have enough clearance.

After we swap out for this one enjoythejourney.life/geny , we may have to do that.

Structual bolts must be torqued. An impact should only be used to loosen or snug up. Once you yield a bolt all bets are off.

Tomorrow, I'm taking delivery of a 2022 Grand Design 2930RL. It looks like new except for one thing. The Air Ride pin box has rust on it. I'm sure this pin box was new when the fifth wheel was upgraded. Hmmmm.

Tom did you consider and dismiss the Reese GooseBox III which would give you the full use of your truck bed?

From Dustin: I should have mentioned I use an adjustable torque impact and regulator. I calibrate the impact before the install. All hitches require a specific torque so I check the guns every time.

Are you still under 13ft 6in high? May wanna double check that before traveling.

What made you go with fifth wheel version versus the gooseneck one?

I am going to gooseneck version. I have the 5th wheel set up now and I need the room in the bed when not towing. Moving the 5th wheel in and out of the truck bed is to much work, they are just to heavy.

Tom: I was moments away from ordering the Curt AirRide pin box from E-Trailer that you just removed when this video published. Thanks, tons, for that! Based on your current experience, do you still recommend the Gen-Y? I'm ready to pull the trigger and get the Gen-Y, unless someone has great exception. I have a standard tool box in my long bed 3500 dually RAM so I need to choose a pin box that won't sag too much and hit the tool box. My current set-up is a stock LIppert LO5 Extended pin bx - 18,000#. All works good as far as clearance is concerned, but I get excessive chucking, especially after I upgraded my dual axles to 8,000# from 7,000# last month, so I'm looking for a pin box to relieve some of the chucking. F.Y. I., I have a 40' Cyclone with approximately 4,060# on the pin box. I'm a bit concerned about James Thurston's comments about being "too flat" so I need to vet that out....Thanks James for bringing that to our attention. Brad from Frisco Texas

Great hitch but i wish they were painted black. I think it stands out too much. I suppose it could be powder coated black prior to installation. Just my opinion

get manufacturers to install a gooseneck hitch on the trailer and a frame that can handle it, problems solved.

I have a question for you both that's not related to this video but didn't know how else to ask you. I know you recently purchased a new truck. I'm wondering if you are having any problems with the exhaust, emissions and the burn out and any clogged filters. We are in the market for getting a new truck but have heard due to the new emissions laws that the newer trucks work differently and some people are having issues where their sensors aren't working and letting them know when they need to burn things out. Don't buy a diesel. There are to many issues with them and then they need to go into the shop. The new diesels don't have the fuel mileage like the old ones did. Gas engines are so much more trouble free.If you want diesel, buy a 2003 GM product with a Duramax, no epa polution controls on them, no sensor issues. I've got 2 of them, my Chevy Kodiak 4500 is for sale.

That’s too much give on the hitch. I wonder if the rubber torsion bars would wear out with so much weight on it

What 5th wheel hitch was you using when the truck came loose from camper? And I heard you mentioned rv life for safe travel. Yea they sux, took me over a mountain single lane gravel road. And no one ever responded to my emails to them. Horrible company.

@@jamesmartin5446 they may still make them, but most require a special order anymore. You'll be hard pressed ro find a 4 door truck with an 8ft bed on any dealership lot without it being a special order.

The F350 and F450 DRW are only 8' beds. Only Ram has a short bed DRW with the Megacab, which is pretty much useless for 5th wheel towing.

The issue is that Ford is building the beds with Taller Sides. My 2021 Ram Duelly is an 8' bed and I have the Gen-Y Executive Gooseneck hitch. Less than 5min and I have my full bed for cargo.
