must be the old v8 mack engine from the late sixtys early seventies around 720 ci not the 998 ci e9 the e9 engine is to wide for the standard B models and r models the superliners have wider frames at the front end , they spread out to fit the massive width of the e9 unless that truck had a major frame modification it was not an e9 but it did sound similar to the e9

+Albert Emanuello ....Your right, it's the Thermodyne V8 which were normally rated at 325 - 375hp with turbo(s). They had a nasty propensity for blowing head gaskets and / or breaking cranks in some cases, probably due to being designed on a 60 degree centerline.... but when they ran, they ran good... but the E9 was a far better engine in every aspect.... except for being SO wide of a block.... made it impossible to put them into other trucks.. short of widening the frame at the front.

+2Stroke Diesel Power I don't know much about the thermodyne engine other than they all have problems but it should have a ent866 maxidyne the thermodyne engine they stuck as much air and fuel into the engine as they could but they couldn't take it we've got a dozen trucks in our fleet all have the maxidyne ent866 two turbos fuel n timing adjusted lol were looking for a L series mack for sale thanks
