This scene is perfect at portraying a dream. It features forefront images from The Dude's mind like bowling and porn but also background details in the world like Saddam Hussein that, like an actual dream, shows how odd little things creep in from our subconscious. Not to mention the illogical quality of dreams. Most dreams portrayed in films would just start out as a porn and carry through with it. This sequence starts off like a porn and enters the realm of nonsense. It's pure genius: this scene and the whole movie.

After a couple of years, one of them messages me to meet up. I happened to be back in town, so I was immediately stoked to see him. @@elyastoohey6621 Actually, I preferred Parasite, Inception, Django Unchained, Get Out, Searching, Snowpiercer, The Platform, Shutter Island, Interstellar and some other movies more than Joker.
@elyastoohey6621
3 жыл бұрын
FZ CBH Interstellar was Nolan’s best work. It draws upon a myriad of western literature, Norse sagas etc. The voyage of bran. Joker draws upon a consistent literature and artistic of the “clown” the harlequin. Jester, fool etc. Parasite while a pretty funny movie, falls short. In terms of high art, it is not so. It is very good. A 9/10 movie. But fundamentally it is a “rich” movie. A lot of shows and movies post 2000 were shot with lavish modern decor. The beautiful hardwood floors. The upper class lifestyle etc. it appeals to those senses. Joker is at a lot of tines visually less “pretty” It is a higher work of art. Same as snowpiercer. Fantastic fun movie. I love it. Especially when they get the metal pipes through the doors, and the battle is evocative of the cruelty to keep other people down. But the movie isn’t high art. Also where Tarantino often falls short. His movies are good. Django unchained is his best movie, and I fucking love it. But like most Tarantino films, it’s a collection of awesome scenes (stolen or as he calls it “homaged” from other movies) Interstellar for me is the second best film of that decade. Because it is high art. And I am not a Nolan fanboy. I find his Batman series good, but overrated when people say they are perfect films. They are very very good. They’re not art.
@fzcbh4698
3 жыл бұрын
@@elyastoohey6621 well these are your opinions but I still believe they are better than Joker. But I agree with you about Django Unchained as it made to be a homage but since you said that so the Joker itself is a homage film also and the director himself admit that before the movie realest as he said he wanted to be a homage film more than based on the origin comic xD And the fact I see the Joker is overrated because I felt if the director didn't really used the Joker comic character itself and create a new character from his mind so it would succeed but now like how it is successfully now. I felt the director wanted to win the oscar cause he didn't winning one before so he took a trip of old success film cause it forget and most teenagers these days don't like to watch old film, and then he tried to think about how he can make the people come to the film, so he said let me use the Joker cause that would make the film a blockbuster.

Not only that but to add the nihilist's threat as 'people in tights carrying big scissors' chasing after him, and then the transition from dream to reality is so surreal. This is a pretty awesome scene.

It reminds me of the supermarket introduction and George H.W. Bush gives the line that prompts the whole series of events to unfold “this aggression will not stand.” The film is so much like life in that small things we hear every day can influence us to make decisions or say things we wouldn’t normally say otherwise.

this song is my karaoke song. After highschool, a few of my best friends and I parted ways for a while. I went travelling and working and they went off to do other studies and such. After a couple of years, one of them messages me to meet up. I happened to be back in town, so I was immediately stoked to see him. And basically this song was playing during one of the greatest conversations of my life where we were chatting on a dock and watching meteors. I'll never be in anything other than a good mood after hearing this song.
I'm actually crying, I love this scene so much.
When all is said and done you gotta admit the Dude's dreams are hilarious.

@elyastoohey6621

@fzcbh4698
I have no idea why I find this so hilarious

Saw this at The Crest theater in Sacramento in 2015 and Jerry Haleva (Saddam) made a scheduled appearance before the show started. The Saddam bowling shirt was on display in the lobby. Jerry came out on stage, with the beret on, and said Jeff Bridges called him on the recommendation from Lloyd Bridges after he played Saddam in Hot Shots. When this seen played, and he handed The Dude his shoes, the whole theater went nuts .😁

When I saw he was dreaming about Maude but he put her in some outfit that would actually fit her interests and aesthetic while him being the regular porn stuff dude made the scene kinda..... Sweet to me? Like he didn't change anything about her in his vision and was genuinely accepting and non judgemental of what she was all about.
