My 2 favourite things, still, after all these years: Davina & Claudia horning over John Snow, and the ENTIRE panel dancing to Rick Astley.

Everyone but Sean, which is delightfully in character. :D

This episode is infectious to me. I dislike Corden, but him almost collapsing a lung reading: "It was an abomination" makes weep with laughter. The only other moment in any of the Big Fat Quizzes that I have had the joy to experience the lethality of was when Bob Mortimer and his comedic other half responded to "How did the children meet their fates in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", they said: "Died in chocolate, killed by Umpa Lumpas, shot by Wonka, hung." My face almost explodes trying to contain my laughter just rereading that to check if I wrote it right. God, absurdism is such a gleeful obsession, not that you were looking for a review 😅

"Naught 2 60" as Jeremy's pin number is the peak of comedy, you just can't beat that. Though Sean gets pretty damn close with almost every joke he makes. Sean's "abomination" answer is a fascinating moment in history. It's something you know wouldn't be tolerated by social media now days (rightfully so). The context determines whether the joke is tasteful or not. In 2008, transgender people were just a marginal group, not really interesting politically. Therefore Sean Lock's joke can just be taken as an over the top, insanely rude comment, that's what the joke is. In 2023, transgender people and their rights are weaponised by conservative political groups, and you can find people who actually mean what Sean Lock says as a joke. That's why it wouldn't work as a joke anymore. Satire needs to be exaggerated, and real political speech caught up with the insanity of Sean's joke here. That's why you can't make this joke today. It just doesn't work as a joke, you would just be repeating a bigoted conservative talking point. @@esmeecampbell7396
