If things are to slow adjust the playback speed. 😊 Thank you for sharing your water work/ beaver dam removal. ❤😊 And please stay safe. I'd rather speed up the video than have you get bit or something else.

About time you got back to work! 😂 Love the video, but not a fan of snakes that can kill a person. Stay safe.

Not sure what your local laws are, but do you ever burn the brush pile created from removing the beaver dams? That way you arent standing next to top tier snake habitat when working.

I do. Dad commented on this day it was time to burn it again.

Normally, with a cotton mouth, it seems like there is just one. But, because of how many we have around here it's hard to tell if they are paired or just crowded.

@BarrettFarms Snakes pair in the early Spring and early Fall, and they do that the moment big storms come rolling in.. So, when Nature throws a fit with weather depressions and we all seek shelter (and I guess that humans used to do that too) but we all seek shelter and cuddle up.... And et voila! 😄 But cottonmouths, yikes 😳 Please be safe out there!

Farm snakes are a tough balance. The venomous ones can pose a threat to workers and spook large animals who can then hurt themselves or farmhands. But, rodents are a bigger pdoblem on farms. They can damage crops, and contaminate feed for the animals. Best balance ive seen is keep barn cats in the barn to keep rodents out of the feed. No indoor rodents, and snakes wont go inside the barns. Let the snakes hunt in the fields to keep rodent population in check there. Farm hands just have to be careful when they walk in brush or tall grass. Never pick up sheets of tin lying on the ground with your hands, use a rake to lift one side up. I never had to deal with copperheads or cottonmouths, but where i grew up we had gopher snakes, western diamondback rattlers, and king snakes.

We have an unbelievable amount and variety of snakes on the farm. We never ever harm them. The cotton mouths unfortunately do pose a risk, and it's not like you can just run them off as they typically just stand their ground and show you why they are called cotton mouths. I agree they are essential for the rodent control!
