Big-city passenger terminal operation in a long narrow attic
Ойын-сауық
This custom model railroad design was created for a client who was first inspired by a layout based on the NOUPT that appeared in Model Railroader some years ago. Although the overall concept and the room size are both similar, the resulting layout design ended up with little in common. Let's delve into the reasons for making some of the design choices that were made along the way.
While the shape of the attic space available means that the benchwork has to be somewhat lower than would be normal for walk-around operation, the client intends to do most operation from an office chair, resulting in a good net viewing level.

One of my favorite railroads. Nice video as usual.
Great layout - very impressive! Just wondering - has the client started to build the layout yet or are they going to get you to help?

I believe he has just started on the benchwork. He plans to have me help him with the trackwork.
Love your videos!!! What software do you use for layout planning?

@@mpeterll Thank you for the response, cheers!
It is a nice but very complex layout. It will involve a lot of "dineros" just in tracks, turnouts, switch machines, controls, track lights, and decoders for block detection. Why three round houses? And then you need rolling stocks and this layout call for an easy 400-500 cars alone. How well! I did not even call for the locomotives.

There's only one true "roundhouse". The two on the staging level are just a convenient and economical method of storing spare locomotives, especially since the turntables do double duty in acting as release-crossovers for incoming trains. The client has a lot of cars and locomotives.
