Last year I tried circle hooks for the first time - not targeting cats, I' heard it was fine for all kinds of fish. I kept getting bites, and kept trying to set the hook - and out of dozens of bites, caught nothing that day! Discouraged I didn't try circles again. Now I know, you not only don't set the hook, but you should also have the hooks snelled a certain way - Will be trying again this year for sure : ) I'd love to never get another gut hook again!

Just letting you guys know i Lip lock my fish. Never Gill grab them and i use circle hooks too and release the big ones to breed and if i eat a fish its one that is prolly gonna die if released or i choose a small fish like bluegill or bullhead or 12 inch game fish. I think releasing big fish makes more big fish and i think the small ones are better eating less chemicals in them. Im trying to teach my buddies let the big ones go. You guys arent alone in the CPR club.

HI Chase - in this episode we do not use a depth finder....we now this area is fairly shallow and the channel catfish move into the shallow areas in the springtime - as the summer approached and the water gets hot,, they will move into deeper holes during the day, but then be very active and on the move at night :)

What is the difference between your circle hook and your octopus hook?

  • @thundermistlures

Hi Donna....the hook point on circle hooks are bent in towards the shaft of the hook, whereas on the octopus hook, it is not :)

Thundermist Lures Thanks! Think I'll order the octopus hook so I can land the cat! Didn't realize the circle hook worked in the way you described. Might explain why I missed the "huge fish that got away" just as I pulled him up. Came right out of his mouth!

Those r huge for channel catfish, here where I live a good channel catfish is 5-8 pounds and a giant is 9-12 pounds they r none bigger than that lol

I would watch more Videos if your videos showed the rod double over when you catch catfish instead of turning off and on video when you catch em it's alright but would be better to catch the bites anyway good fishing

I've actually caught Northern Pike off of circle hooks even though I was targeting catfish. I prefer circle hooks over J hooks just because they do less harm to fish.

Thundermist Lures Here's a question for you. Why would a circle hook go through a fish's head? It happened to me one time. I had to take my hook off of my swivel to remove it.

  • @thundermistlures

....that is certainly rare, however, if the hook was in the fishes mouth and the fish had re-positioned it to have the barb pointing upwards, then in that case, as it started to make its way out, it would catch the top of the mouth, instead of the side :) That is a rare case

Thank you for weighing the fish in a bag. That's a great way to handle the fish and weigh it with less stress on the fish.
