Big Brands No More! Now I’m just an Average Motion Designer | A Freelancer Vlog

This time I want to show you one day in my life as a motion design freelancer.
I used to create a lot of big brands stuff, like adidas, cartoon network or bmw.
But during my long career as a motion designer I've realized that there are more important things than making award winning animations.
Enjoy watching!

I can very much identify with this sentiment Michael. When you are young you want to be doing all the "cool stuff", but as you get older you realise the pain that comes with that. There is a LOT to be said for a low stress life. The average work still pays the bills and they are usually a lot more fun to work on.

Thank you 😊. I had some practice before with some previous vlogs. And I just watched the big guys like Casey Neistat 😂. Sound design is a bit difficult for me. Finding the right balance between music, voice and sfx that sounds good on all devices. Are you a professional filmmaker?

@@MichaelPonch Nah, after watching u for a while. i'm no longer a good filmmaker😂😂. just consider me as an experienced one that i dont only watch things but also feel the story and hear the sound.your vlog style is already top-notch above 95% of vlog-things i've seen. PS: That's amazing combination of story, sound design, music and attention to detail that keep me watching the whole video (no skipping any second) eventhough it's 360p in case u havent noticed yet🤣🤣🤣

Hey, really great video. Like you, I've been doing this for quite a while and when you have kids (and also get older) you have to make some hard choices. I was offered to work on Tron 2 and turned it down because I'd be gone for months away from my family. That was a tough pill to swallow, but it was the right choice. I think you captured a side of this industry that nobody really talks about. Great work.

This is great. So glad it popped up in my feed. I absolutely love this attitude and look into the freelance world. Being average for most of my projects and really going all in on a few others has proved to be the best workflow. Not every project is paying the premium and not all money is good money.

I miss this kind of channel on KZread. I don't look for glamorous channels with kind of fake lives. This is the real jewel. I'm a motion designer as well but now I've spending some time off recovering from burnout since last year. I've always wanted to do big stuff but in the last years all I want is a low rhythm, enjoy the ride, and small things. I suffer from anxiety and I'm trying to figure out how to sustain a motion design career with this crazy reality. I don't like companies that work as agencies with short deadlines and all those crazy things that come with it. I've been surfing the web trying to find things I can do to match my new me. Thanks for the content and have a great week!

Thank you very much 😊. Yes, the stress also took a toll on me. So I focused on the seemingly “unsexy” stuff. Maybe a highend project once in a while for my showreel. If your anxiety allows meet people personally and connect. From my experience this opens the door for job opportunities. Wish you all the best 😊

Thanks for sharing with the rest of us. I think this is relatable for a lot of motion designers who've been around since the 2000's. The glory days are behind us. In modern times we're talent staff that quickly turns around deliverables for whoever needs it. Not a bad place to be, but we don't always get to wear the super hero cape as often as we used to.
