I use the 10 round 5.56 Lancer mags. I simply grind the original "hump" off the floor plate, grind out the U shape at the top front, cut 2 coils off the bottom of the spring, and cut down the plastic floor plate stopper and some of the tab that hangs down from under the floor plate. Easily holds 5 rounds. I also use 10 round P Mags. Those take a little more work (heating the feed lips and bending them inward a bit, grinding out the inside rib that runs up and down the front...) and also hold 5 450bm. I also use the 30 round Hexmags. I have to cut two thin wedges out of them to make them more straight instead of curved, and epoxy them back together. Those hold and feed 13 rounds of 450 bm.

I also use a standard 5.56 mag for the 450 bushmaster. Works fine. I only load 5 rounds, but that's all the 450 mags hold.

Bear creek is underrated. I got the .45O bushmaster, .50 Beowulf, 300 blackout, and a 7.62x39 all have run almost flawlessly with a minimal of 50 rounds or more through the barrel. Had a few feeding issues with my .450 but put a heavier feeder spring in and modified the mag and works great. That made my Beowulf shoot great brand new out of the box. It’s preferred if you clean the rifle out of the box which I usually do but didn’t with the .50 beo and it still shot great. You have doubts about bear creek budget uppers. At least give them a try if it’s a dud or manufacture fault they back it up with a lifetime warranty. I don’t know about you but I rather put some of my designated money into the ammo and optics.

450BM guy here...the critical factor for reliable feeding in these cartridges (esp. 450BM) is to adjust the mag feed lips so that the nose of the top bullet is sitting just ever so slightly "nose up" in the mag, when viewed from the side. The half-moon cutout at the front is usually needed, also.

The only thing I can think that might help is maybe changing the followers in the mags? I'm a builder so I'm not afraid of using my dremmel, so far I've found i need to clearance the ejection port and magazine, not much else. But my question is I've seen some videos and read a couple articles where people are having cycling issues, possibly short stroking. Do you use any special setup in your buffer? I have standard carbine buffer & spring on order for a 20 inch barrel, i just don't know if i should change the buffer or spring to a heavier setup or is that what's causing people's short stroke issues. Thank you

FWIW I typically use a Colt 9 round mag for range shooting even with the 5.56. It doesn't bump into the bench. I do own 30 round mags and have no problem with the concept, I am not a "ban big mags" guy, but they are not always the best choice for every shooting/hunting activity. Okay so I just got my Bear Creek Arsenal 450 all together and brought it out today to shoot it. It appears that it is short stroking a large majority of the time. The bolt usually doesn't come back to lock back and often times it won't chamber the next round. Not every time just a lot of the time. I've got a Spike's Tactical T2 buffer which is a 4 oz buffer. I'm wondering what you use for a buffer is it a standard 3 oz? Trying to figure out if going with a lighter buffer will help with this problem. It's totally worth dealing with a tad bit more recoil in exchange for a rifle that reliably Cycles if that is what will fix it. Thanks in advance for any help. Yours just seems to function just great so I thought maybe you could give a pointer or two on what you used for a buffer.

I didn't change anything on my .450 Bushmaster. I am running it on my A2 lower/buffer assembly. It's the 5 ounce rifle length weight. I doubt this helps you but that's what I've got.

I have question. Im using my 223 lower and I put my 450 bushmaster upper on it and when I put the magazine in it sits up to far to load a round into the gun. I was wondering does that mean I have the wrong magazine for my gun or is it a common thing that happens.

  • @michaelmignone5869

Did you get this resolved? Does the magazine actually ride higher in the receiver or is it just the 450 rounds are higher? If it's the magazine, possibly a bad run of mags with the latch cutout being too low on the magazine body. If the rounds are whats sitting high, is the magazine for 458 socom? I've read some could have the feed lips a little too far apart to hold the 450 down enough

I use the 30 round lancers and only load 7 rounds in a mag. Sometimes the first round will pitch up and snag if the bolt is already locked back and I slam a new mag but that has been my only issue. I don’t even mod the followers at all.
