I'm planning an extensive "empty shelvie" challenge since I have around sixty books I bought in 2018 and 2017 that must be read before I buy new books. So, I'll only buy a new book after I had read five books I had already bought.
I love when you pronounce English words correctly but just with a French accent. It sounds so much better. I think my big book this year is going to be Anna Karenina. My plan is to read at least four classics this year and I think Anna Karenina is the biggest one I picked.
@basho4306

I picked another Tolstoi book, war and peace (1500 pages). I loove russian literature and also chose books by Dostoyevsky, Gogol and Gontscharow.

Same, me too @ Anna Karenina! Depending on how you see it, it will most probably be my biggest book too. I also want to finish The Witching Hour by Anne Rice, which I think is only a bit longer, but I started it this year so I’m not counting it.

Anna Karenina took me a bit to get into but I ended up loving it!
U should add a poll on the video so u have a better overview of which book most people choose^^
I vote: 1. Crime and Punishment, 2. Finish Monte Cristo, and 3. The Reality Dysfunction because that’s the ultimate big book challenge since it’s over 1000. You can do it!
@Mylifemyidolsmymusic

I agree with all of them
Ahahaha the intro is so cute 😂
I am planning to read Dune next year too! Also having plenty of big books in TRL, hopefully will finish most of them! Also having read C&P and Idiot, I will read another Dostoyevsky classic- Eternal Husband, but it only being novella I do not think it counts as a big book (although all D books are huge in a way...)
This list of books gives me life! I can not wait to hear your reviews over half of them are books I’ve recently read and absolutely loved!!
I love it when you update i get super hyped
Omg Needful things is my favourite Stephen king book ever!!!! It actually got me back into reading after stopping for 9 years!!! Everything happens so fast and it actually has a decent ending!!

Needful Things! Yes! I read The Stand and IT this year so Needful Things is next on my big Stephen King book list
i love the fact that you picked a lot of books that i actually own in French ! So I might try to follow you whenever you pick them this year !
Yeah! I am gonna read Dune with you! And Mote in Gods eye is on my to-read list so probably I am doing this one as well. Amazing and funny video as always!
I literally have the same fears about Dune! I have it on my shelf... waiting. So if you read it in 2019 I will too! 🤝
I bought Crime and Punishment to read in '19 too. My sister loooooves the Russian classics and this will be my first one. Let's buddy read!!!!!

Yes!! Promise of Blood! Currently working through Sins of Empire series. Excited for your review on the series!
I am going to be buddy reading so many of these with you this year!
Finish Le Compte because if you start Les trois mousquetaires you'll have to read the sequel Vingt ans après and if you read that you'll have to read the third book in the trilogy, Le vicomte de Bragelonne, which is split into three books in the Folio classique edition and those three books add up to 2700 pages! But it's fast paced and a wonderful series to read when you decide to embark on the adventure! I read those last 2700 pages in one month: something I've never done! But for now, Le Compte!
Dune and Needful things are both books I really enjoyed and I have The Passage on my 2019 TBR list.
I definitely want to read some of the big books with you!! I’m always so intimidated, buts some of these books sound incredible :) Love your videos as always ❤️
I have a few of these either on my shelf or on my wish list. Will try to join you when I can!
That intro 😂❤️
Crime and Punishment is more popular, in part because it's a part of school curriculum in Russia - I myself read it for school and honestly? I hated it, not because it's a bad book, but because it just fills you with this greyness and hopelessness and some part of the story were a bit too much for my sensitive soul. That's just me though - I don't think you're gonna have a problem with that, Emily. And yesss, Dune!! I love that book and I actually want to reread it in 2019 and hopefully read the rest of the series cause I looove that world, it is so detailed and thought-out. It's not just sci-fi bits that are cool - there's also politics and interpersonal relationships and also ecology is very important? It's a great book hehe
I love your videos and your sense of humor
Dune and the Passage is on my list for the year to! I will definitively read those one with you!
Read crime and punishment and I'll join in with you. I also have three musketeers on my bookshelf and wasn't planning on it anytime soon but maybe I'll join in with that too.

How does the ending (without spoilers) of TSH compare with the Goldfinch’s?? I was so unsatisfied with the Goldfinch’s because I was left like “really? After everything he’s been through??” Which i guess is sort of the point, but I didn’t like the ending. I’m v interested in TSH but idk if I want to risk having another ending like that.
Love your list! Don't be too afraid of Dune. I didn't enjoy it that much, but it is a quick read for it's size. Hope your reading year goes well!
I will totally read these... except the classics with you! I love that you slip into french when the words are spelled the same. It's an adorable quirk and shows who you are!
Ah yeah, if you go into The Passage thinking it's a YA book you're going to have a bad time. It's a literary take on the Vampire/Horror genre. It's very atmospheric and character driven. Very slow in some parts but also heart-racing at the beginning to help get you going. Wonderful read in the end.

LIFE AFTER LIFE IS AMAZING!!!! omg! I hope you love it! Dune is on my list this year as well.
oooh I have Needful things NOS4A2 which I meant to read this year but just never got round to, so definitely tempted to save them until you read them now! Great picks btw :) x
I have planned to read so many of those this year. Would be fun if you created a book club for the big book challenge, maybe on goodreads? Btw I would recommend getting a different edition of The Idiot, the translator for that version really isn’t very good.
Just saying, Needful Things is brilliant!!! It’s big but I flew through it (like most Stephen King books!)
I like your book choices, so I may join in on some months!
I think the three musketeers and the sparrow for the ones we can vote on! I think I'm going to try and follow along with you. I noticed that I'm pretty stuck in the fantastic genre and want to branch out! Some of these sound so intriguing!
I have Needful Things as well! I'll try to read it with you.

The Passage is big and scary, but so worth reading, and the books in the series only get better as you keep going (I finished City of Mirrors this year). Good luck with your Big Books challenge! I really need to pick up a Neal Stephenson book at some point, but his books are so intimidating!
everytime u post a video I have to stop what I'm doing and watch 🤣 You're in my top 5 favorite booktubers just so you know
I know Stephen King has a book or two with aliens (dreamkeepers, tommyknockers?) they are also pretty big but I would love to see your review on these alien thriller novels sometime! Haha. Maybe big books for 2020? 😉
I want to read Dune and Needful Things as well...ive been curious
Life after life is so good! Just beautifully written and such a unique and clever plot. I hope you enjoy it!
ohhhh my gosh, so many of these books are on my tbr/ones I’m really excited about, too! especially The Count of Monte Cristo, A Little Life, The Secret History, Dune, The Passage, Needful Things, and NOS4A2... but also several of the sci fi books you talked about toward the end that I had never heard of before 😂 hmm... maybe I should use a readalong as a kick in the butt to finally get to these... 🤔😜
I have a big book recommandation for you Emily: the Witching Hour by Anne Rice. It is 1207 pages and has been keeping me pretty entertained for the past couple of months! 😄 Anne Rice's writing is amazing!

I've read Dune, The Secret History and The Passage, they were all great! Also, I loved the second book in the Passage trilogy even more than the first one and I've been meaning to reread Dune so I can continue on with the series :) I've always heard The Count of Monte-Christo is amazing and one of my friend's favorite book ever is The Three Musketeers so I can't help you choose between the two, I need to read them too! :p I really want to read Life After Life and A Winter's Promise, I've heard a lot of great things about them! I have Red Mars on my shelves as well but I'm really afraid of its size plus I remember hearing it's a hard sci-fi book with biology from other planets so it sounds good but not the easiest to get through x)

I want to read big books with you again. Last year I had read 5 from your tbr and I liked that.
Needful Things is good, I liked it but it's just too long. Great idea for a story but it could have been shorter and that would have made it better. That being said, it's a page-turner and I'm glad I read it
Crime and Punishment or The Idiot?
@Morfeusm

i think that you have bigger chance to finish Idiot. C&P has better story but also contains some scenes in the middle which are famous DNF inducing. And Idiot is less depressive. BTW I love them both! Dostoyevsky is the GOAT! ❤️❤️❤️

I'll be reading The Passage with you, my edition is over 1000 pages O.O, so it will be motivating to read it with you. I will also be challenging myself to read a least 1 big book a month. Good luck this year with your challenge!
Yes! I've been waiting for this video haha. I joined you last year in reading more big books and while I failed miserably at reading the specific books on my list, I did read quite a few big books, like you haha. I will definitely be reading A Little Life with you, I've been staring at it on my shelves for way too long. I'm currently reading Sleeping Beauties by Stephen and Owen King and trying to finish it before the end of the year..
The Three Musketeers is one of my all time favorite books!!!! Also, I’m adapting your reading challenge sort of to do more classics next year in general. I really like your way of drawing out of a cup and letting the fates decide sorta deal. :) And I’m reading Dune this year too!! My boyfriend got t for me for Christmas since he read the Stormlight Archives for me, and I’m honestly very excited.
I'm currently about halfway through A Little Life and everything you said basically sums it up. Really enjoying it so far though!
Ah, you and I are kindred spirits, lol. My absolute favorite trope is the Groundhog Day trope where someone lives a chunk of time over and over. I also love Time Travel stories in general (even though they are always full of paradoxes/plot holes). I'd love to see you do a video about books with this trope; that would be so fun! :D
I'd totally do a Dune readalong with you! I have the audiobook and I've only listened to a few chapters before I got distracted by other books.
Just found out your channel and you are so amazing... Im so happy to be here❤
This is my favorite video you make!
My son and I want to try and read A. A big book this year and B. A Stephen king book lol I’m super excited for this one and also the passage I’m going to try my best to read these lol.. also I love how you always have random books to recommend and it’s not always the typical books everyone else talks about
This first big book I want to read next year is The Way of Kings, which you didn't mention but I see it on your shelf so it counts. I have the same edition as well, and also the other two in hardcover, just like you! Pretty awesome :) Good luck with your big book goal!
Oh! Je suis aussi super intriguer par le livre Les fiancés de l'hiver! Might have to pick that one up when you decide to read it
Omg "A Little Life" will break you apart piece by piece. I just finished it. It's normally hard for a book to make me cry and although it is a very very sad book, I cried once. Majority of the books on your reading list is on my reading list, so I'll be joining your big book challenge.
I'm in! Great idea!!
CRIME AND PUNISHMENT IS SO GOOD 💛💛💛
I've been meaning to read a Donna Tartt novel! I've heard lots of great things about her books so I might join you and read The Secret History 😉 I also got Les fiancés de l'hiver from my library, so I plan on reading that one pretty soon!
I'm reading Dune with you this year! I'm going to predict that even if it's not to my liking, I'd still be able to appreciate the enormous impact it had on the science fiction world.
I am also hoping to read more big books in 2019! Good luck with it!
A little life me tente énormément, je l'emprunterais à la médiathèque à l'occasion. Bonnes lectures Emily !
Emily, I think I am a definitely going to try and read a few big books this year even if that means I only read one book a month. I’ve tried to read Mistborn in the past, but haven’t been able to read it all the way through so that might be my first read in 2019. Good luck on your challenge and can’t wait to hear your thoughts and comments on all your reads this coming year.
A Little Life is incredible. But you will need a support group after lol. I am here for you 😃
Dune is one of my FAVORITE books ever :) I have 2 more to read to finish off the original series but I've read the first book multiple times. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it :)
I’m willing to read A Little Life, The Secret History and Dune with you. 😂 I have them all on my shelf waiting for me and I have been too scared to pick them up. I also need to read the Stand this year, maybe Seveneves too. There are so many! I told myself this year I would try to read more big a** books lol. I vote yes for The Mote in God’s Eye. I haven’t read it myself yet but I’m intrigued.
I'm doing a similar challenge, but a little different. I plan on five big books to make sure I get enough time to read other things. You got me out of my slump this year by the way. After binging your videos (again) I realised I had been going after wrong books and needed to get back into my comfort zome. I'm super exited you picked The Secret History. It's her best book in my opinion, it made a huge impression first time I read it. Also definitely Crime and Punishment! It's very easy read for a classic. I might read Seveneses myself. Might have added a few S' in that title 😂 Other than that I plan for sure: Swan Song, Dark Materials (the pretty big edition), third Game of Thrones book and The Once and Future King.
Life After Life was definitely an interesting read! There were aspects I didn’t love but definitely an interesting take on the theme.
A little life! YES!!! BIG YES! Can't wait to hear what you think of it. I will join you in Crime and punishment, and Dune. Yeah.. I did read the Passage and didn't like it at all. NOS4A2 is also on my list, I actually met him and he signed my copy.. nice guy. Seveneves I feel like you're gonna LOVE! its an amazing sci-fi I loved it so much. I vote Sphere!!! I also have it and didn't read it yet. So if it wins the vote, I'll read it myself. All the best with the haul! Happy new year ❤️
Im so happy I came across your video. Every New year's I make a challenge to read more and I never do. So as a promise to myself this year I want to follow through with things I saw I want to do and be more consistent. I've already finished a few books this month. I plan on vlogging my experience on my channel as well.
A Little Life Sounds interesting, I might check that one out!
13:02 that book is really really good! It's not even a slow paste book, the world building is amazing and i loved it v v v much
Life After Life seems really interesting. I also love books with the repeating a day/life trope :)
I have decided to read all of these books with you. I am not afraid of big books but they all sound great! I have read the passage and book two of that trilogy. It is very good, but it vampires not zombies. I will not be reading Dune. My parents use to force me to watch the movie as a kid, so that will be a hard pass. Cant wait to start the challenge! Love your channel and that it is more than just YA.
I can't wait to see what you think of The Secret History, it's one of my favorite books. I'm currently in the middle of The Goldfinch and for some reason I'm struggling with it. And also I would recommend Crime and Punishment. I read it when I was 17 and it is fairly easy to follow (but yeah names are something to get used to). I will try and join you with Dune and The Passage, they've been on my TBR for waaay too long.
Omg please read dune! It’s big but very fast paced so it doesn’t feel like it has that many pages. I’m not really impartial to comment on it because this is my favorite book of all time, and it makes me really happy to see someone on booktube mention it. Good luck with your big reads in 2019! Also, I think you should finish the count of monte cristo - it’s been quite a while since I’ve read it but I remember really liking it!
Oooh, there are so many on your list that I'm planning to read as well! I will try to read The secret History, Needful Things and Dune together with you at least :) Because just like you, I'm so scared of books that are over 500 pages, so I always push them further and further away lol. I love this challenge and I hope you can read as many big books as possible! Let's do our best :D
Curious about Crime and Punishment but not sure about it at the same time! Ooh also curious about Three Musketeers so go for that one! I need to try The Passage as the show is coming out. I enjoyed Needful Things. I don’t really read sci fi so can’t help with them.
I looooove the secret history!!! All of the characters are terrible people hahaha but it’s still an all time favorite for me
Oh The Passage is fantastic! One of my favorites. I didn’t know it was YA.
@Maren617

It isn't IMHO, it's a horror novel. Nothing YA about it, they're just marketing it like this to get the Hunger games fans.
I have been inspired to make this as well this year to push myself to read those chunks. I will select though only 6 so I have one every 2 months to be able to hopefully make it 🙈 I also want to read The Passage this year because I think it will be a book I will enjoy. Needful Things was a great book. Hope you get to it this year!
Reading the secrete history right now. And excited what you will think about it :)
Your summary of Dune sounds exactly like mine it made me laugh. it is definitely one I feel like I should have read and see it in book shops all the time.
I’m going to attempt A Little Life this year too. It’s been sitting on my shelf intimidating me for too long. I loved Life after Life, but it is literary fiction so is slower paced, but beautiful! Good luck 😉
I just got the notification and almost lost it 😍😍
Wooah just realized how long your hair is at 0:04! So pretty ^___^ I'd go with Crime and Punishment and Monte Cristo. I also plan to read these next year and would love to hear your thoughts on them. I'm also reading Secret History and possibly Dune and Life After Life next year :) Also, I appreciate that you read a lot of Sci-fi as most people on booktube seem to lean towards fantasy and so I get many great sci-fi recs from you which is cool.
