Honestly, as cool as the little bass is, that Lignum bass just has THE tone I love!
Having signature Bartolini Pickups must be a dream coming true!! Congrats on a really great and spectacular signature Bass!
the sub octave is crazy bro
Nate, I love the octave sub bass! That’s awesome!!!!
Would like to see a piccolo bass vs the small mayones bass!

Lignum NUTS HAHA Wait what
Awesome playing as always Nate! Love them both!
Best sponsor ever
I feel like the sub bass would be incredible for heavily drop tuned music. I feel like it would add so much depth rather than just playing same part, same octave.
I think the winner here was the flipper cameo.
That long bass is amazing...
I would like to hear the lignum tuned higher. I think it would have a great “piano sound” tuned more like BEAD maybe F#BEA
amazing playing as always. I laughed the entire time, those riffs were hilarious and awesome.
What a fun composition!
Dude WHAAAAAAT Another one? in PURPLE?!?! Incredible
Amazing playing as always. I'm looking forward to seeing you on the live P Tree blu ray when it comes out!
Dude... Don't know how I only found you now, but I guess it makes sense, because you're one of those legendary S-tier bassists!
Just loved this. I have a beloved Cali 4 and I wish I could play it anything like you - it's a treat to play, to look at and even just to feel in your hands. So this battle is no battle for me, even if the Lignum looks like long-armed fun!
Both together will sound insane!
fantastic work man, love to see it. what kind of strings are you using on that long-scale beast? stay bassin
My Lignum is the third one from left with EMG pickups. I can tell that low F# shines on 42" scale (I do Drop F#) and it helps a lot. I was looking for bass to handle studio recording for this low range and it works great! Also it is cool to see how every bass produced so far is so different! :)

It's awesome to hear that it's working well for you in Drop F#! Great looking bass, man!

@@NateNavarro Thanks man! I'm just still not sure if I found the string tension/thickness sweet spot for F# string. Other strings are beyond brilliant but F# I feel I could get more "voice" (piano tone) out of it perhaps with less thick strings. That's probably up for discussion with NewTone Strings guys. I have: F# .166 C# .126 F# .096 B .073

@@Schtorm_BLITZ_UNION Thanks for the feedback! I'm still experimenting with string gauge on my end here. I'm testing out some flatwounds this week too.
The 42" long scale bass is very impressive, great idea and amazing job! Love the concept! I use low tuning and faced the same problem with the lack of tension. The tuning on my 37"-34" multiscale bass is actually exactly the same as yours (and the same custom Newtone strings!), sounds awesome, but 42" would definitely add definition and overtones. It would make a lot of sense to add 5- and 6-string versions to your 42" bass lineup though! Will definitely look into buying one for myself when the budget allows :)
that slide on the little bass knocked me out
Awesome Zoolander reference! :) Awesome playing, beautiful composition, gorgeous Mayones, impressive, ingenious Lignum.
I work on boats and will def need a small bass of some sort for my 6 month stint next year, this intrigues me
really made my sub woofer work overtime
Please make a video comparing the two Lignum basses
I love the Lignum's sound, but it gets so low it becomes blurred and mushy. Much like the octobass, it would sound better blending with other instruments. How 'bout tuning it higher? About your books: I will look them up. For those more enclined towards classical music, there's a lot of good stuff for the 5 in Bach's works, check out the flute partita in A minor and the suites for lute and cello. All can be easily adapted for the fiver to give lots and lots of fun with beautiful music from "medium" difficulty to outright challenging. Peace fo 2024! 😁
That little mayones is a surprisingly interesting instrument !
The striking thing about the Lignum is that you rarely touched the sub-octave E string, and when you did, anything below about the 7th fret was an un-pitched rumble. It seems like just a novelty.

You really should listen to such frequencies in a live situation. KZread will compress too much, and the hardware wouldn't be capable of properly producing it to you (unless you have like 2K+$ audio system)
For me, 5 string tuned from B to G is always the winner, but I find interesting both, the piccolo bass and the sub contrabass guitar.
Dobro bass vs. Banjo bass
I've newer seen sweep arpeggios like that on a bass before. Damn.
The Winner is of cause Nate! The Basses are nice, too😉
I like the little guy, but that is just my preference. I feel you're able to play around with different styles of playing more, plus, it's easy to transport.
Awesome! Do you offer a six string?
Hi Nate, I really liked that comparison between that 42 scale and the other one that I'm not sure if it was 28 scale. Nate, what is the cost of your 4 string book and how can I order it?
How hard is it to source strings for the sub octave bass? I find myself highly limited on my multi-scale (37"-34") string options as it is.

Kallium can make them I think up to a 40in, for dingwall scale length I’d go with either daddario extra long scale or dingwall strings
I wonder if the sub-octave bass would sound good with a regular bass tuning! Might be an idea to try out...
P.s. that Lignum wins!
Lignum NN Sub Octave Bass with Fishman Fluence, best thing ever! 😍
Giant classical octo bass vs the sub octave bass!
It sounds like an argument between father and son. Well played!

good vid though btw, just had to
Oh... I didn't realize the Cali4 was an octave up. I thought they were just fat strings. Now it makes me think of playing a guitar, ick
The 42" scale length means it's the longest bass on the market. I need it for my music because my bass needs to go down to C#0 and right now I'm using a pitch shifter to achieve that. (I use a 9 string guitar)
@Schtorm_BLITZ_UNION

Actually it is not. Kalium made "Shark" 4 string that is 44" and they made it years ago. It was meant to handle C#0. But no multiscale and really hard to play overall.

@@Schtorm_BLITZ_UNION tbf I'm aware of kalium but not the shark and if it's not currently in production then I wouldn't say it's on the market anymore.
Need a fretted double bass?
Which one was easier to play?
You should do a 6 string book
Make a sub Oct acoustic bass
I gotta bookmark this so I can buy this book when I have money again lol
😂Dolphins vs T Rex.👍 Want to see/hear you on a Rickenbacker which is missing in your collection😉
The answer is yes
Lignum sounds like the setup to one of those "balls" jokes
I want the sub octave bass
That sub octave comes in purple now???? 😱
How can we get the lil bass???
Love it.... wanna have both. Probably gonna sell my car for it
AWESOME NATE, love them both,
at first i though that Blue bass extended part are edited lol
I fucking love that sub bass finish. It reminds me of those glittery soft plastic fishing baits lol
Wow that sub low E still came through clearly on my laptop !!!
42" scale?! thats pretty cool but who makes your strings?! kalium only gos to 40" scale. so even if one was to buy one of theses, where would they get strings for it? o_O
Why does this guy have no double bass
double sided bass and guitar
He could play a rubber-band and make it sound good.
😮😅🤩🤯 🔥🔥🔥
the little one won and it wasn't close.
i want it but it's so expensive 😭
If it's the same tuning as a guitar, it's just a 4 string guitar
imagine if this bass has maple fretboard...
This is A Ridiculous comparison. Which is better a sports car or a jump truck. The question is for what?
My bass, made by Mishka an alcoholic, is the best by any means!
What's that you say?!? A Ligma bass?!?
forsen
One's a bass the other is a ukulele! 😊
bass for ants lol
Late to the party, but this isn't even a question. The Mayones is a novelty. The Lignum is a behemoth.
Ligma bass
I want to get a 42" scale bass and run it through enough octave pedals to split the earth. Gonna be calling elephants from Africa to my house.
