Big Aquaponic Greenhouse - Part 6 - PLASTIC COVERING
Ғылым және технология
I'm finally getting some of the plastic covering on the greenhouse. It's just 1 of 36 sections, but at least it's a start!
The covering is from www.solawrapfilms.com/ (no affiliation)

Great work done, looking forward to seeing more of your green house building. Thank you for sharing your amazing video
Rob, looking good and thanks for sharing the "how to" and "lessons learned" video.
WOW! What a video! So amazing that you did this alone. Thanks so much for sharing.
That greenhouse poly looks super cool. I enjoy all your videos. Thanks.
One of the best videos I have seen on greenhouse set up.
You are the man!! Pretty darn perfect for doing it by your self! 🤙
Excellent works
Very nice. Keep on with the good work
I appreciate your work
Great work!
That was an amazing way to build a greenhouse. It looks like it will be a very good build when it is done. The plastic was new to me as I haven't seen that approach before. Thanks or sharing and will be following.
Translucent aluminium! Best product for any long term green house. 👍😀
I have notifications on and this is the first video i get notification for. I'll go back and watch the rest, thanks for sharing I love the effort you put into getting these video's out there.

I had that already turned on, I basically missed almost a year of vids so I'll be busy over the coming weeks
Next one you setup might want to add chicken wire to the trench before you back fill as a pest barrier. Nothing like a layer of wire to ruin a moles next meal. Do you need the green house plastic that far down? Could be worth it to just do a sheet of foam insulation covered by plastic between the ground and 12-24 inches up depending on bed types. Less plastic used for the greenhouse overall and you get a higher insulation at the ground so can move plant beds closer to the edge. 12-24 inches sounds small till you think over every section 2-4 feet of expensive material savings can add up fast. That and running the insulation down to the frost line would act as a thermal break slowing loss of heat to the ground inside the greenhouse.

I had debated the chicken wire but with the high moisture in the ground, it would only last a few years before it rots. I also considered adding 2" foam in the trench but the cost of the foam (~$1000) and the extra time to carefully bury it wasn't worth the expense vs energy savings (IMO). When I built the dome I did insulate a section of wall. Again with the hoop, there's the added expense of the foam, plus trying to seal up all the cracks from air flow and bugs is another issue. Since the majority of the heat loss is through the upper area, insulating along the base will help, but usually doesn't justify the expense. I went through many calculations before doing this installation. ;-)
very nice project !
Realy....Great work without any help
Very nice work . I'm from Thailand.
Thats not bad being an inch out of true. It looks good especially working on your own. Seen a few videos where the tunnels have been way out of alignment and thats shorter lengths of tunnels.
Shoot the tracks with some PAM and you shouldn't have a problem with the sheet pull. Great video! Thanks!!
Woop! Awesome!!!
Try some ArmorAll; spray the track then rub some along the length of the plastic formed edges...SLIPPERY! Good luck! One additional suggestion (11:50); position the roll so the plastic comes off the bottom (not the top as shown). Seems like it would feed into the plastic slats easier. :-)
That's a hell of a step out that door on the 2nd floor of your house!

I was watching your videos on the rocket mass heater. Did you do a video on the final design and how is it working? Thanks
That looks like a great project. I would help put it up, but it's not close to me. I appears there are few shortcuts, since each strip has to be screwed down. I hope you finish in a reasonable amount of time. Good luck.
You're very industrious, great job doing all that on your own! Silicone spray could help lubricate the plastic in the tracks. I know it works well for rubber hoses. Not sure about plastic on plastic, though, but maybe worth a try.
Looks like you have a lot of 4ft sections, maybe make a jig to space the channels, then just put the jig in-between the verticals and drill your screws to hold them, then pull your bubble wrap up thru the channels. Everything will be spaced the same. Another thing you can do is insert the bubble wrap into channels on the ground and then fasten the channels to the uprights; you can do every other 4 feet on the ground so you can still get a ladder between verticals to fasten the channels to them. You can use the jig in-between, i.e. do sections 1 & 3 on the ground, then put the jig between them to properly space section 2.
Very nice, I've been interested in solarwrap/keder covering for some time. I know Eliot Coleman has some on a greenhouse going 14 years strong with the same plastic which is pretty impressive. Johnnyseeds??
Wow.... awesome
Nice video. I am thinking about buying and installing such similar tunnel. How much can cost such? And if I install solar panels for winter water heating. I was thinking also about kompost heating..
very nice. what's the uv transparency and insulation value of the bubble wrap? you mentioned its 20y life, this is comparable to etfe foil used as pillows in large scale architectural structures like project eden. some key advantages of etfe are ~30y life, uv transparent and self-cleaning. but requires ultrasonic welding to frames and blowers. - how to bring those benefits down to scale?
If you install battens on the outside of the frame that run parallel to the purlins then you wouldn't need to worry about getting those ribs exactly 4ft apart. It might cost a bit more in materials but it would save a lot of headache and time. You can then simply screw the track into the battens as you install the plastic.

Good idea. I may block too much light depending on the spacing. I'm not really sure. I have a pretty good system down now where I just attach some ratchet straps between each hoop and make some adjustments.
Good working
Incredible. Get your hard hat though bro!
Look into simi clear 3D printed structure's that you can roll out and arch abd use for a green house outter covering. 😀👍
That is one big green house! Are you going to try to make this a all season greenhouse?
Hi Dear Where would I get this type of plastic sheet roll ? Any contact please Thanks Amirul
Ever thought about putting 8 inch pipe under ground and running the pipe to the end of the green house bring the elbow up just above ground level and cover them with vent's? Then have a fan system circulate air through the vent system? 12 volt cryogenic piston generate's liquid air that fills a condensing coil with air drawn through it for air conditioning with boil off liquid air forced out of air stone in hydroponic water system to chill the water and add oxygen and nitrogen into water. Air is about 72% nitrogen so why not use it to feed your crop's? Got neat heating system's design's and atmospheric water generator system's to make a stand alone green house. Solid state crystal power cell bank's to operate heating and cooling and water pump's for circulation of water. Really neat stuff! Working on orange groves that are fully protected and hydroponic in enclosed green house structure's with light bandit solar system's. 😊👍😀
When are you doing tours?
Great vid! Could you tell me that sweet song playing on the background?

it's call St. Francis. It can be found in the KZread Creator area.
Sehr gut 👍
So my idea is to have one bow (at the end where you started) secured firm, loosen the bolts on the perlins for the next hoop allowing it to slide a bit then install the plastic, the one side being able to move should allow you to pull it all the way across. once installed pull the loose hoop over to make the plastic tight and secure. rinse and repeat.

can you tell me where you bought the bubble wrap.
Thank you for sharing this video, I'm from Australia, hope you don't mide If I will requests all the materials needed to build up one like this. Thank you very much. Cherfield
I think I like your idea of digging a trench better than using post hole diggers. I don't have a backhoe attachment on my tractor. I've got lots of rock. I wonder if using a trencher with rock cutting teeth would be easier to keep a consistent depth than renting a mini excavator?
@Bigelowbrook
6 жыл бұрын
yeah, post hole diggers are useless when you have rocks unless you have the nice ones like the electric company that has the rock cutting teeth. I trencher might work but I haven't seen how they deal with larger rocks.
Thank you for your self reliant example of what real men do, day to day to get things done. I try, but you are putting me to shame.
Ндааа.... Мужик! Терпения тебе и удачи! Молодец!
Hows that dome greenhouse you built holding up and working?
I like that cover system a lot better than the One solid piece coving style. 👍. Lay the plastic down flat and slide the rails on while it’s on the ground and then slide them over and attach. Where did you get that style of covering?

wow!!!!!!
Did you put anything solid underneath the metal poles? A flat stone, a slab of concrete or alike just to prevent the poles from sinking?
@Bigelowbrook
6 жыл бұрын
they won't sink. There's plenty of rock in there
I think I would be afraid that over time things would settle and cause some of the plastic to rip out due to stress. Does the company recommend like spacing 3' and 11.75" instead of 4'? That would give you an 0.25" slop factor for both directions. I don't think a little dip would cause a problem.
@Bigelowbrook

That cover is so damn pricey. I mean ROI would be ridiculous. Good product, did you ever look in to solawrap?

Still like it a lot! I have a couple of pin-holes in the outer layer so a little dirt and water get in there but it's harmless. I have one area that a bear ripped, but the hole hasn't gotten any larger. Besides the extra cost over regular plastic, it's still an A+

this will only work with the solawrap covering. You probably will need to attach a strip of wood to your frame, overlap the plastic sheets, and then do another strip of wood to sandwich the plastic between them.
