I'm happy that the NutHouse, one of the best names for a student section, got a mention. The building is actually called the Jerome Scolhottenstein Center. It's only the playing surface and seating that's called Value City Arena. I've heard this is because Ohio State has a policy of not allowing corporate naming rights to their buildings, but they kinda exploited a loophole here by selling naming rights to the arena itself.

The Nuthouse is great, but as an older alum I desperately want us to tear down the Schott and move back to St John Arena. It was the most intimidating venue in the conference, and we just gave it up for a cushy building that seats 5000 more people but is not nearly as loud.

It would be hard to overstate the cultural significance of basketball in most of these places. Illinois & Indiana prioritize it like crazy. Wisconsin, Michigan, & Iowa are all mad. The Wall at the Xfinity Center was to SAVE taxpayers money as there was a giant rock in the way that would have required blasting and extensive excavation work. So that was a work around that became a prominent feature.

12:39 Nothing unique about Kohl Center? The third deck is entirely over the second deck, so it has more overhung seats (closer to the court) without posts than any other arena. That feature and the low ceiling really reduce the spatial volume, which means it's louder than similarly sized arenas.

10:15 how does Penn State not fill that arena up? Texas Tech has a slightly bigger one and never have to tarp any sections. That’s crazy.

Williams arena for the Golden gophers a Minnesota doesn’t have a great PA system so you can barely hear the announcers say what they need to say

Old Welsh Ryan was terrible, it was dark and in bad condition with wooden benches. New Welsh Ryan is super nice in comparison and despite the small capacity it's still a fantastic arena. Can't wait to see the upgrades to Ryan Field.

It's fantastic if you don't get stuck behind the steel roof supports in the upper rows. I did and I could only see the north basket. From center court to the right, you are completely blocked.

The most recent remodel has been great. Even though it removed 1,000 seats, it's still half-filled with the opposing team's fans during conference games. Going to have to work on the product to attract the attention of the millions of locals who opt to do most anything else with their time than fill Welsh-Ryan Arena.

@@denniskaminski7006u don’t know what you’re talking about. There are no baskets on the north or south ends of McGaw Hall. The court layout is east to west. Also, the steel beams are located behind the upper and lower seating bowls and thus do not impair viewing. The McGaw rebuild is excellent. The stadium is first class and has a serious old school, mid century field house vibe.

Jersey Mike's Arena(Rutgers) will ALWAYS be known as "THE RAC(Rutgers Athletic Center)" to me & fellow & lady New Jerseyans alike until they build a new damn arena...foh respectfully I also feel the same about Progressive Field in Cleveland home to MLB's "Guardians' being FOREVER known as "The Jake(Jacob's Field)"

On Wisconsin! Proud Badger here, loving that you showed off the university and the city at the end. A couple of things about Senator Herb Kohl. First, he was the son of the founder of Kohls' as I remember, not the founder himself. Second, he represented the state of Wisconsin in the US Senate for four terms (24 years).
