You cannot invest if you don't have savings to begin with. Savings is basically the money you pay yourself and then you grow and protect that money thru investments So yes, you can become rich through savings

You cannot run before learning to walk, and this is the problem currently with millenials, u have to save first (capital) then invest the savings (to have capital growth formation), which becomes wealth. This cannot happen without saving, even a sacco can't give u loans without saving.

Another thing, even when you have investments, it is important to have savings or at least what is normally called an Emergency Fund, a nest for emergencies that you can quickly access when your expected sources of income or profit fail to come thru. And you don't have to have your savings in the bank. There are plenty of other avenues where you can save your money like unit trusts, which are low risk and high liquidity, and the money will still grow slowly over time coz of compounding interest and you can access it easily. Savings are very important.. One of the basic principles of financial mgt. This line of "You can't grow rich by savings" i feel like it is misleading and discourages people from saving at all. Then they jump in investments and God forbid it doesn't work out, you lose all your money, you have no nest to fall back on for at least your basic needs (Emergency Fund) before you come afloat again and then now you have to get into debt to sustain yourself. It's a vicious cycle Pay yourself first (save) when you get your money (as opposed to paying everyone else and you remain without) since expenses will never end.. You'll thank yourself later
