Both were (or will be) chosen as candidates by massive political organisations. I believe the DNC may make it hard for Biden to stand. I hope they do. If he thinks he is the right person, we can add delusion to his list of woes.

Sorry, this made me cringe, i watched this debate, it was so sad to see biden as he was. it was like watching a horror movie through your fingers, at 81 he needs to step down, America is supposed to be the guardian of the free world.....and we are relying on a 78 and an 81 year old to hold the fate of the free world in their hands...

Watching that debate was like being ball-gagged and tied to the the bridge of the titanic.

I suspect that people will not shift to Trump but many democrats will find it hard to vote for Biden - i.e. - Biden's vote will drop rather be transferred.

Put it another way - if Joe Biden was having an ordinary job interview, would you hire him ? 5:27

Most people were watching what was happening with Biden rather than focusing on Trump who seemed so much sharper.

Everyone knows that Joe’s mind has been mush for ages. When you hear enough people come out in chorus and say ‘he’s sharp, focused, and great on the detail,’ like they’re reading from a script, you know it’s coz they are.

yes, there is a lot of cope there. This is who he has been for quite a while and the people close to him must have known. The question is who is running the US right now?

I want to show some empathy but, this guy is cooked. Trump, effortlesly, sadly, absolutely rinsed him.

I am beginning to think that Biden made a terrible mistake in holding this debate.

Apart from the national and global take on this ............. what sort of wife would let her husband continue - not only let him, but encourage him to carry on? Is she just a political figure in this? If you loved your husband you would do the right thing and save him from this ridicule. He couldn't do it if she wasn't there (not even in the background, but in the foreground) getting him 'set up' for each day. Just get a carer in, and let him live out the rest of his days in peace. At the D Day celebrations last week all the leaders were ready to catch him if he fell, and to lead him where he had to go next. Trump has a different sort of madness! I think that Britain no longer has a functioning democracy (we don't even have a real democracy any more), but it doesn't compare to this - yet!!!!

Jon Stewart should run. He would actually be great.

Today at a rally they've pumped him up with prompts. He sounded ok. And a weird crowd of young people screaming for this old man. Given him false hopes.

From what I gather, the Democrats have decided to drown together.

Got to love Jon Sopel. He spent 4 years trying to explain on his well-paid BBC broadcasts that Trump was doing things that no politician would do. Jon's so intelligent, that he failed to realise that Trump is not a politician. Bless. Next Jon will be explaining why the moon is made of cheese, and the Pope does things that no muslim would do.

The big question seems to be, if Newsom steps in at the Convention in August, is 3 months long enough to cement a picture of who he is and what kind of President he would be. I would absolutely yes. People do not pay as much attention to politics as they used to and he would be an interesting and new proposition. He’d get a debate in September which I’d expect him to win and I think there would be a lot of support for someone who has governed a border state and the fifth largest economy in the world (California). Waiting to 2028 would be a mistake for Newsom. He’d be old news by then.

Totally right on the “if you carry your own bag” line. That was supposed to be a funny line but the way it was delivered was done in the completely wrong way.

The powers that be have been telling us he's fine when anyone with eyes and ears have known otherwise. This debate has shown the truth about Biden. And now the mainstream media have to make all sorts of excuses.

In 1974, it was senior Republicans in the House and the Senate who told Richard Nixon that it was time to go. That was the result of their personalities, not of a formal institutional process.

IDK, I'm English, but it was painful to watch Biden.

This, to my mind, was the terrible night that decided the American presidential election in Donald Trump's favour, regardless of Biden being replaced or not.

Watching both of them reminded me of Max Headroom, they act like computer generated animations and not real people any more.

I stayed up to watch the first 15 mins but it was just so obvious that watching Biden he is just not up to this, I had to switch it off. I get the impression now that even though he has all this experience but his age, Trump, the ongoing wars that he is dealing with, congress, Senate and also his son's trial and conviction is now taking its toll. He does not have the stamina to deal with all this.

Remember, he didn’t campaign in that elect, just did short interviews in his basement. All he had to do was debate Trump 3 times, with Trump under immense pressure from the job, but C-19 and a very hostile press. Biden has had the opposite. Was a tough watch. Must confess, my gut feel has been since the point when Nikki pulled out was that the Dems are going to test the water. I think that they won't pull him out until Trump has declared his running mate.
