Bibliomania『 MMV 』The Greatest Living Show
Фильм және анимация
Providing you stay in your room...everything you could wish for will be yours...so why...why are you so determined to leave?
Manga: Bibliomania
Song: The Greatest Living Show by Toby Fox & Itoki Hana
DISCLAIMER: Be wary of flashing lights, graphic content and quick motion of images. Viewer discretion is advised.
Bibliomania is a twelve chapter psychological, horror manga written by Orval and illustrated by Macchiro. It unfortunately isn't well known, so hopefully this video will at least encourage a few of you to give it a read. This video only covers 8 of the 12 chapters and features minimal dialogue. For the full experience, I encourage finding a means to read it yourself, it never had a full English release unfortunately so hardcopies are only available in a few select languages (I have a hard copy thats entirely in spanish lol).

I liked how Alice had shown genuine sympathy for the sick girl in room 276 instead of the indifference and disdain which she normally showed to the other tenants of the other rooms, excluding the room of the executioner, cause she deserved to enjoy life at least a little

It's such a subtle and sweet moment in this story. I also like that it's admist what feels like a montage of Alice trying to hurry through rooms, only for that moment to take a little pause. I swear this manga is a work of art on so many levels ❤️

Alicia vivió enferma por mucho tiempo antes de volverse esa mariposa gigante cuando se combinó con el libro. Posiblemente le tiene empatía por qué sabe lo que es estar enferma... O algo así. 💀

It also makes sense that she’d sympathize with someone sick because she was bedridden for a long time.

And yet, Alice still damns them all horrifically without real concern, her sympathy is only temporary and self centered as it reminds her of herself. She may have the slightest flicker of sympathy, but empathy? Clearly not.
@cathygrandstaff1957

@@zach7 Yeah, like in the flashback where she absorbs the people who are desperately using social media trying to figure out how to avoid being killed, has a moment of empathy where she thinks they’re trying to use words to stay alive just as she did and continues merrily absorbing everyone.
I kind of like how using this song with this manga inverts the original animation: the end signals the last curtain falling, but it isn’t for our sweet heroine but for the showman trying to trap her in his storybook.

Well, reading the original work, it's kinda hard to not think of wonderland as some weird dimension where logic basically doesn't apply and there's loads of vague, scary things and you can get killed easily just by meeting the wrong people, so yeah, it always was kinda hellish.
Did... did this archetypal "pure girl" win against the evil entities that wanted to consume her!? I was sure until the end that this would be a cautionary tale of sorts, but she lowkey heard the "warnings" of that thing and said "bet." AND ACTUALLY ESCAPED WHOLE AND WITH A S M I L E . THAT'S ACTUALLY SO BADASS
@TheMickellPickell
Жыл бұрын
Alice's determination is honestly both inspiring and downright disturbing. The question of the whole series is "Why is she SO determined to escape this place, despite knowing that supposed *sudden death* awaits?" and then when you reach the 8 chapter mark (roughly where this animation ends), you are left wondering "Why was she able to escape, when everyone else couldn't?". The answers lay in the source material~

This way of animating the original panels looks a bit weird at first, but with further visionings (and after reading the manga), it's actually really cool Every movement looks off, too smooth, making the characters and scenes slide like ghostly beings. But that just goes SO well with the unsettling atmosphere of Bibliomania ! It looks a bit like a puppet show, you know - every element moves on its own with a mechanical vibe. Which greatly enhances the 'weird, but beautiful too' feeling we get from the original material .
@TheMickellPickell
3 ай бұрын
My animation style is heavily dependent on the puppet tool so most of my animations do tend to look like a Wayang performance, though this one I deliberately made characters glide around the screen with stiffer motions to really emulate that effect. I wanted this MMV to feel like a pop-up book so I'm glad that your take-away was similar to what i had envisioned in the edit.

BIBLIOMANIA MOMENT !!!!! mickell you are so goated with the sauce for this one istg ok but like seriously this is just so good??? maybe it's just your experience with animating the mia manga, but the fact you're able to animate even the most detailed of panels and still make it look good is so fucking cool man, plus the presentation is really good, it quick to fit on pace with the song and yet leaves a trail of mystery regardless with the lack of dialogue that provides most of the context behind what's going on lol it makes the manga feel even more like one of those dreams where it's logic is so strange and bizarre but you can't help but follow along as it warps and twists into ways you didn't think were imaginable to the eyes, but the human conscious is more vivid than we typically perceive it as, so too can the same be said about the human desire, even at it's worst... also putting together the greatest living show and bibliomania??? actual giga-brain move it fits so well and i never realized it until now the hard-work you put into these videos is very admirable dude, keep up the good work man! :D

You're SUCH A GIGA-CHAD! Every single video I swear to god, you're far too generous for your own good brother! This is a short, psychological-horror manga called "Bibliomania". Unfortunately there is no english physical release, but you can find high quality english translations on Mangakalot and Mangadex. While I wouldn't want to spoil the series, I'll give you the VERY basic premise: A girl name Alice awakens into a white room, when a serpent figure approaches her and says she can have whatever she wants providing she stays in her room. But for some reason she protests and is insistent on leaving this world of dreams. However, the further from her original room she is, the further her body will begin to dis-configure itself. The point being that this world is meant to trap its inhabitants by fulfilling their dreams and desires. The question is, why would Alice want to escape such a blissful world? And who are the other occupants who reside in such a realm? Those are the main, driving factors of this story. Unfortunately its an INCREDIBLY underground story, as it never took off as a manga. I'm hopeful this video will help inspire more people to give it a read. Because despite it being so short, it says so much in such a short amount of time.

It honestly is such a work of art. It unfortunately flew under the radar so I'm hopeful this video will somehow make its way into peoples home-pages and inspire them to give it the reading it deserves! Funnily enough, we are one in the same! My french edition arrived about 1 week ago and while I don't speak the language, the hardcover is just SO GORGEOUS, I needed to snag a copy!
Definitely one of the greatest amv/mmvs I have ever seen, the editing and pacing of the images to the music is top notch, like top top top of the sky 👍👍
