I'd love if you'd find someone to have on who left Christianity but still believes in God just not the bastardized religious version of God and get more into the thought of what God is or should be, maybe even eventually talk with something more "fringe" like spiritualists, mediums, so called witches/witch doctors etc and not have it all just be intellectual.

I was 6, when in hospital for weeks, a catholic priest visited and tried to make me remember some sin for the purposes of sacrament of confession. I said id none. He kept in a gentle voice pressuring me to remember. I resisted but eventually was forgiven for the sin of putting my leg out from under the bed covers to cool my foot. The nun on duty was angry with me and pushed my leg back in. He absolved me for this so called sin. How sick of this priest to do that.

This is a story about a priest, not about Christ. The Bible says we don't need anyone to intercede for us, except Jesus. No priest, no minister, nothing, but Jesus. That priest was likely following what he thought was proper. It's the baby being thrown out with the bathwater on this one....People disappoint; people of all faiths including atheists disappoint. But God is good. Talk to God directly, and learn what is true.

@@MsLinda165 the priest is supposed to represent j.c. according to church teachings. Whatever the priest cannot do wrong and so on and so forth. But when some weird stuff happen, then "no, it's not the church nor god's problem; it's not the priest's fault either, because he's a human. Instead it's the fault of the person who was damaged. Because of "not willing to forgive". BRILLIANT.

I have been really struggling with my faith lately, and it’s so hard to talk to anyone about it. I’m surrounded by biblical scholars/pastors/lifelong Christians and I know that if I tried to speak to any of them about it, they would be dismissive and treat me like I’m going to hell. Ironically, I’ve been praying for God to provide answers, but nothing is happening … which, you know, just leads me to more disbelief. I’m truly grieving over this

You should continually and sincerely pray to god for guidance. Some people take years before they found the truth. The only thing is are you willing to accept it when it comes to you or will you just dismiss it?

I understand what you are going through, as I went through the same in my life. As I look back now, not adhering to any specific religion, I am much happier. The world makes sense, and I no longer fear dying or trust in ideas that can not be substantiated. I am so grateful that I put the time in to prove what was true and what was not. I wish you well in your truth for truth.

I was a military wife for 20 years! I’ll never forget the day the chaplains son came to me crying cause his parents beat him cause he had doubts. The last thing his father said to him before he left his house to come to my house was “you better get right with the lord before you step foot in this house!”My son came to me and told me his parents beat him cause he confessed his doubts! That child laid with his head in my lap crying for hrs! I’m not sure what triggered that memory…my heart just broke for that kid! All I could say was it will be ok you’re not bad! Over and over! I was in such a hard place! I was an officer wife! But I couldn’t just turn my back!

So much fear is being pushed. I've been studying scripture in Hebrew/Aramaic, and it is quite different from English bibles. God doesn't burn people. People burn people. We are to live honestly and charitably. To bring heaven to earth. To love, enjoy life, and live with no fear. And live with a sense of being blessed and favored and to believe it. And be thankful. That is true scripture in a nutshell.

I was raised in the Church of Christ on the west coast of British Columbia, Canada. I loved hearing Dr Cargill's story, especially when he talked about those members of the church who where kind and loving because it made me think of my dear departed Mother. She was one of those people. This message was so inspiring.

@@BTphosheezy I wrote a book on the teachings of Jesus. The elders read it and then gave a special Sunday morning series telling everyone to NOT READ THE BOOK. It was easy to see they were the church of Paul - and they actually have little interest in the teachings of Jesus. "One Disciple to Another - the Original Jesus" I've been back now and then - two brothers are still preachers - one said I was a heretic... warned me not to publish it for fear of their own jobs.... Oh, well.... I agree, but also see the other churches are also "cults".

“Agnostic” isn’t some sort of enlightened middle ground. The standard atheist position isn’t that they “know,” rather that they are not convinced. So, so many atheists repeat that the only thing they need to believe in a god is _evidence_. This is the definition of having an open mind. Being open minded doesn’t mean granting equal probabilities to all possibilities by default. This is just gullibility.

I see them all of the time when I throw a few questions at conspiracy theorists and they can't answer them. I'd say there's a chance that Steve is watching content like this, because he has some questions (to which the answers don't match his current beliefs). A lot of us were Christians at one point, but once we decided to be intellectually honest with ourselves, we learned what the truth really was and had to learn to accept it. ...but that's on them to decide. btw, I do agree with your comment.

Took about 10 years for me.

I remember when in good conscience i could not take communion. My mother was not able to understand. I still remember that church with deep affection but the doubts and the facts just made it impossible for me to believe anymore. My children were raised secular and are the kindest and good people.

Graham Hancock is questioning archeology as all of us are questioning religions. What if someone says the same that this professor said to Derek? That comment about Graham Hancock was mean and narrow-minded. Graham Hancock is a good person too, and he is going on his journey to discover the truth and Dr Cargill, I can see, is part of the archaeologists that don’t want to be questioned. So sad. Simcha Jacobovici, who made the movie “The Exodus Decoded” and found what might be the tomb of someone called Jesus? etc, it’s another good person who’s trying to find another answer, a more logical answer to what we have been told. From my point of view, all theories are well received. Otherwise, it’s like we are saying to another person “Shut up! What you think and believe is not important, the only important thing is what I believe!” Sorry Derek but that comment was so unkind that I got disappointed.

Mr. Hancock has never submitted a paper to a journal for review. If he wants credibility (I'm not sure he actually does) he must earn it by publishing papers. That's how the field works. Those are the rules. "Trust me bro" doesn't work. No amount of screaming into the wind will change that.

I was beaten senseless by nuns when I was small in primary school when I was eight years old. Also told that I would end up in prison for asking too many questions. I was just a curious child , not trying to be evil or difficult. I’ve come to despise and mistrust everything religion stands for

Its sad to hear him say he had no trauma relating to his Christian upbringing then later hear him talk about the extreme psychological trauma he underwent believing the consequences of sin according to the salvation doctrine. He didnt understand that exposing a child to this belief system contantly insisting it as truth, does psychologically affect the child and causes mental trauma 😢

Non-religious belief systems also cause trauma. One reason being that they are false. Another reason is that they cause the breakdown of family life.

@@tonybuck1225 There is no "non" religious system that requires "belief". The whole basis of religious systems is that you must have something called "faith" which requires belief to the extent that you are depending on something which literally has no evidence to prove There is any truth to it. Religious systems all fall into this category.

I take so much comfort in these conversations with scholars who navigated their way out of conservative religion/identity, and then, eventually out of Christianity altogether. I appreciate the compassion Dr. Cargill has toward people who are oppressed. “You show love.” That’s the only thing that matters. And those “cup of cold water” people trying to live out their faith by loving others. Those are the folks that get it.

I am a 66 year old woman and I was a Christian for the first 50 years of my life. I was a Christian counselor and had been a servant of the church since I was 16 years old. I studies the bible from cover to cover many times, held bible study classes, taught Sunday School, led Christmas and Easter programs, etc.. I was very active in the Church! The spirit of God is within me and one Sunday my spirit spoke to me as I was preparing to go to church. The voice in my head said that I would not be going to church today. I was shocked and sat in my car unable to drive to church at all. I went back into the house trying to figure out what just happened. I eventually let it go and thought nothing more about it. The following Sunday I prepared to go to church and again the voice spoke to me saying that I would not be going to church. I couldn't believe what was happening to me. I obeyed the voice and went back into the house. These two experiences led me on a spiritual journey of discovering who I am, why I am here and what religion does to control the minds of believers. Currently, I am religion free and I love it! I discovered that I am a spiritual being having a human experience. This experience is both individual and collective within the confines of my circle of influences. I am here to learn how to co-exist with other human beings under multiple circumstances beyond just myself and my perspectives. Being myself allows the spirit of God to experience being a human being through me and you! Religion is a crutch used to control what a person thinks and believes. I no longer believe what others say is truth, my divine spirit is my best teacher. The bible says to come up higher, it says to renew your mind, it says to seek and you will find. It says to remove the shackles of your mind. I agree with these principles and I am happier now then ever before. I don't fear death or judgment because I have learned that God does not judge any of us, we do it to ourselves through our beliefs and judgments of others.

I believe Jewish witnesses have to be at this time, especially older have a clear conscience. Because of Islamic/ Muslim old beliefs witnesses aren't always in church with Christians. Witnesses do need to protect ( by Christ, HS) because very necessary they carry out their purpose also.

Killing the Egyptians babies for being the wrong race?The Old Testament literally says that an innocent person cannot die for a wicked person. It literally says that if you just repent, then your sins will be forgiven. Sacrifice was only for INTENTIONAL sin and even “god” got sick of that and said many times that he DOES NOT want sacrifice but REPENTANCE ONLY! It says that human sacrifice is an abomination even though he commanded Abraham to sacrifice his son to prove his commitment to him (insecure much?). It says that if anyone comes and does signs and wonders and leads people away from the Torah (law) that is a false prophet (Jesus). How do other people not see the insanity of the Bible? Not just the numerous contradictions but how does no one else think it’s not totally insane that “god” could only forgive your sins if his son is beaten and murdered? In the Old Testament, people just had to repent. Nineveh, anyone? If your god can only forgive your sins if there is blood shed, that is insanity. The Bible is absolutely abhorrent. In every way. “God” killed 42 children for calling Elisha bald…so y’all cool with your god killing children for behaving like..children? How do other people not see these things? Religion is man made. It is not real. To think a “god” would create a hell (which doesn’t exist in the Old Testament btw) to send his creation to for simply being humans. Who created good and evil? “God” says he did. So, why would god punish you for doing what he created? Please people read the book. I have. The New Testament in every way contradicts the old. No where does it say the “messiah” will be born in Bethlehem, or come from Nazareth or be born of a virgin. No where does it say the Jews will reject him, how does that even make sense? Again, how barbaric is it that a god could only forgive your sins (which he decided what was right and wrong) if blood is shed? That is insanity. Please wake up and see the lies and contradictions. Jesus literally called all non-Jews “dogs”. He only after being rejected by his people for being a false prophet (Deuteronomy 13) did he turn to the non-Jews. The fact that so many people “love jesus” is insane. He called you all dogs. He says in Matthew 13 that he will throw all lawless (law-LESS) people in hell. That’s not loving at all and that’s no where in the Old Testament. Please wake up and see the truth. The Bible is abhorrent and the fact that so many defend it is just as abhorrent. If you defend your god who murdered children and commanded genocide and condoned rape and slavery then you need psychological help.

Dr. Carghill’s story of being afraid of going to hell really resonated with me. I was raised early as a Lutheran. At a very young age, maybe 5 or 6 I was taken to a church service. The minister at the time was a real fire and brimstone preacher and extremely frightened me. Thankfully I wasn’t exposed to him much and he wasn’t at the church much past that time. But it left a lasting impression on me.

Yes, and though Dr. Cargill said he didn’t experience trauma in his Christian upbringing, I believe he did in the case of the fear of hell. He said he woke up sweating / panicked over the subject. My dad says that when he was a child his sister basically was triggered into mental illness after being subjected to fire/brimstone sermons as a child during “revival” week at the home baptist church.

This is such beautiful stuff: the essence of I and Thou, supposedly what Christianity and Jesus is all about. A pity Christians do not understand the irony that their dogma is the opposite of love and compassion.

I also grew up in the church of Christ. A quiet shy good girl until I got started being pressured to get baptized. The whole thing I was risking hell and terrified as well. Except I said, I don’t think I know enough about coc to get baptized. I only knew Methodist and Baptist and said maybe I would be one of those and I was told I had to be baptized in coc or I would go to hell. I was shocked and kept asking questions about good people who just happened to grow up in another religion, they were going to hell? Yes. What about people who never even heard of coc? Yes. I quietly said I didn’t believe that so I guess I can’t get baptized. And I was condemned to hell by my family right then. At 12. It took me many many years to get over this and still read, research which is how I watch info KZread like this. My mouth fell open when I heard Dr Cargill also grew up in coc. I’m watching intently

This is so on point for me. Diff branch, mine was fundamental baptist, and then some hoping around to see where I fit. I was deep into being trained, as well as training others by 14. Abusive mother, fractured skull & facual bones. So when we were taught god is like a parent, I lived in fear constantly, what IF i had a bad thought and died immediately afterward? I was scared all the time. Between the trauma and the religious education & training, it was traumatic. I did the bible drills, debate, music ministry, teaching adults how to "win souls", nursing home, bus ministry, door knocking and talkin folks into salvation...I walked away as a young woman, but the guilt for actually questioning myself, it was terrifying. But after doing so, it was so freeing. I've never looked back. Thankbyou for this channel & thank you Mr Cargill, for sharing your story.

It is fascinating to me that even after being an “agnostic” the focus of your life is still Christianity. It just shows the power of religion. You even say “Amen”. It’s incredible.

I too, find myself using exclamations like “Oh my god” and “Amen” every now and then, despite having left Christianity more than a decade ago. I still love reading the Bible, but only for comparison to other older texts, such as The ancient Mesopotamian writings and the Dead Sea Scrolls. A big Thank you to Dr Cargill and the growing multitude of biblical scholars who are coming out to reveal the shortcomings in the scriptures and, in the process, pulling the veil from the eyes of “believers”.

He is exactly right about the theological pressure put on children. I was 12 when some church goers came to the door and told me I would go to hell. I remember the card they gave me: "The wages of sin is death. The gift of God is eternal life". I was balling so afraid of hell and being tortured for all eternity. I got baptised thar same year soon after. I was so traumatized by this fear. I got baptized again at 16. And now at age 38 I still question my salvation. Its something people dont talk about. I cant do God's work by speaking the gospel without knowing if I am saved.

I'm a chronic asthmatic and when I was a child I was taught that God was all powerful and could do anything. I prayed for relief from my asthma and lo and behold I still got vet very painfully sick with asthma which is a disease I have to this day. I prayed to God to cure my asthma. I prayed to Jesus to cure my asthma. I still have asthma. Prayers didn't ease the symptoms. So I concluded God either didn't exist or didn't care about me and or did exist but was unable to do anything for me. As I grew older I gave up on religion and became an atheist.

I think of God’s will for our lives like a parent knowing best. I ultimately believe God is perfect and knows absolute best. There is a LOT going on concurrently that no one on earth sees or is even aware of. Earth is a stage and a trial, and there’s a lot that goes on backstage. Physicists state we exist in 9 dimensions. We are only aware of length, width, height, and time. I put my faith that God knows what he is doing and whether we believe in Him or not we have his full attention and he knows us so well. Right now I am dealing with a hard addiction to kick and I’ve prayed my heart out a great many times for God to end it. It continues. So I am taking it as God is giving me the strength and everything I need to quit but it just needs to come from me. Or there could be another ending to this. But I don’t doubt God’s existence or His care because I’m not getting the results I want when I want. But that’s just me.

I came from a mixed marriage and spent several years trying to convert my Mum to the religion where I was taught if you were not of that religion you were going straight to hell. I am over the fear…. Count is now 98.7k! Great interview. I’m 63yrs old and grew up in Kern County and brought up in the same Church of Christ sect. Our group was even more conservative because even though some members would send their children to the same summer camps the church would never send money for for a unauthorized venture. I first came upon Derek when I started looking into preterism. I was a deacon in my local group and stopped attending when after two years of trying to engage the leadership in a discussion on the matter. I left when at my wife’s suggestion that I stop going if I continued to have difficulties dealing with the lessons. See though they would not engage on a personal level the lesson from the pulpit were aimed my way. After a few years of not attending I began to question the whole narrative. This came to a complete rejection of Christianity when I pulled my head out of the sand in regards to god sanctioned slavery among other things. You see although I never studied evolution, geology or anthropology I do consider myself logical. When I could not make a logical argument to defend an all loving god who promoted slavery among other evil things such as genocide I left the god of the Bible completely.

I applaud the fact that there are scholars as honest as this one is, and I fully support his and our being as honestly critical as our source materials, written and archeological, force or allow us to be. But the thing that interests me most is, What do we remain convinced about after we have finished critically examining the Jew Jesus of Nazareth? It is certain that he believed many things that we cannot believe today -- a young earth, a worldwide flood, an imminent destruction and renewal of the universe within the lifetime of his own generation. But what, if any, value or values do we still find in him when we have finished examining him?

People are nice whether they believe in God/god/gods or not. Religion/s are product of human imagination. This is not respecting other people's faith. You have an obligation/duty to tell them to wake up in this fantasy/make-believe/myth/fairy tales. Tell this to the members of Church of Christ or other churches, temples etc.

I'm glad Robert mentioned no trauma. I actually enjoyed my time with the Church. My deconversion was due to logical reasoning, no trauma involved.

I've seen Dr. Cargill on History Channel and CNN. I have always appreciated his "as a matter of fact," respectful approach to educating people about the Bible. He always gives historical context and background to what was happening to each and every biblical circumstance.

I, much like you, was raised in a loving Southern Baptist Family. There was never a breakup or disresct of the family. I just thought logic and reasoning abandon the faith. This happened mostly based on the imposiblity of the bible supernatrual events. I graduated from a Methodist College majoring in Accounting with a minor in math. I took as few relligouis courss as I could in order to meet the requirements.

Science and logic do not say anything about supernatural events, they simply do not deal with them. From the point of view of Newtons mechanics, Electricity is supernatural, from the point of view of mechanics plus electromagnetism, quantum mechanics is supernatural. Supernatural healing, such as replacing of bones etc. is well documented. You can find videos on KZread.

Killing the Egyptians babies for being the wrong race?The Old Testament literally says that an innocent person cannot die for a wicked person. It literally says that if you just repent, then your sins will be forgiven. Sacrifice was only for INTENTIONAL sin and even “god” got sick of that and said many times that he DOES NOT want sacrifice but REPENTANCE ONLY! It says that human sacrifice is an abomination even though he commanded Abraham to sacrifice his son to prove his commitment to him (insecure much?). It says that if anyone comes and does signs and wonders and leads people away from the Torah (law) that is a false prophet (Jesus). How do other people not see the insanity of the Bible? Not just the numerous contradictions but how does no one else think it’s not totally insane that “god” could only forgive your sins if his son is beaten and murdered? In the Old Testament, people just had to repent. Nineveh, anyone? If your god can only forgive your sins if there is blood shed, that is insanity. The Bible is absolutely abhorrent. In every way. “God” killed 42 children for calling Elisha bald…so y’all cool with your god killing children for behaving like..children? How do other people not see these things? Religion is man made. It is not real. To think a “god” would create a hell (which doesn’t exist in the Old Testament btw) to send his creation to for simply being humans. Who created good and evil? “God” says he did. So, why would god punish you for doing what he created? Please people read the book. I have. The New Testament in every way contradicts the old. No where does it say the “messiah” will be born in Bethlehem, or come from Nazareth or be born of a virgin. No where does it say the Jews will reject him, how does that even make sense? Again, how barbaric is it that a god could only forgive your sins (which he decided what was right and wrong) if blood is shed? That is insanity. Please wake up and see the lies and contradictions. Jesus literally called all non-Jews “dogs”. He only after being rejected by his people for being a false prophet (Deuteronomy 13) did he turn to the non-Jews. The fact that so many people “love jesus” is insane. He called you all dogs. He says in Matthew 13 that he will throw all lawless (law-LESS) people in hell. That’s not loving at all and that’s no where in the Old Testament. Please wake up and see the truth. The Bible is abhorrent and the fact that so many defend it is just as abhorrent. If you defend your god who murdered children and commanded genocide and condoned rape and slavery then you need psychological help.

It's been devastating realizing that what I believed was truth for nearly four decades was a lie. It is like waking up after forty years of marriage to discover that your wife had never been faithful. I mourn the marriage still and see now the damage that religion has and continues to cause. Even more, I mourn a life that was dedicated to a lie. If anything, my hope is that humanity will give up on these stone and bronze aged gods and join in the work of making this world a better place for the sake of humanity.

Goddaum, listening to this Dr. talk is soothing ointment for my life. Hearing him say letting go of all that stuff and not trying to defend policies I don’t believe in anymore produced more loving, accepting, less judgmental, free individual is simply AMAZING. I’m disappointed the Dr. claimed that he didn’t experience abuse or trauma as a child yet he clearly did from his recounting of his terror of Hell. It’s difficult to admit to oneself that you were abused by your family.

To all religious people: read The Lost Book of Enki.

Mr. Cargill’s comments reference the church of Christ are lost on most people. You have to have been a part of their theology/structure to understand the legalistic nature of their beliefs. Not quite the JW’s but not too far from them either. The main difference being that the JW’s have the “Watch Tower”, similar to other denominational control systems, but the church’s of Christ are all independent and able to formulate their own theology within what the group agrees upon. They operate within a basic set of “rules”, however they are able to make their own group “rules/beliefs”. One of the main beliefs is that they are the one/first true church, that essentially they follow Acts and it’s “example” of how the early church operated and therefore they are true while others are not. It’s a very devisive mindset that leads most church’s of Christ to be mostly isolated not only from the community but all other Christian denominations as well.

I know you know your stuff when the "church" in church of Christ isn't capitalized. I completely agree with you. They're very autonomous and yet clearly linked. If you haven't seen it, Ready to Harvest's video on them is fantastic, and I think fairly represents the majority of churches of Christ.

The one thing ALL the religious deconstructionists have in common is listening to their extraordinary innate natural human curiosity... and having the courage to seek out the TRUTH and WHY of everything. I related to Dr. Cargill's life story, although I came out of the Methodist and Presbyterian churches. In college I discovered they weren't telling the truth and nothing but the truth and began a quest. I believe in something More, basically because of some profound life experiences.

Robert Cargill. What a beautiful human being. Full of empathy and non-judgemental. I had a lump in my throat and my eyes were watering at some places in this video. Truly humbling and a privilege listening to this man.

Great story. I also had a evangelical upbringing right through college as doubts arose. In grad school, I got out.

I enjoyed this so much. I totally related to him. The struggle he had was something I knew.

For those from the USA. Just be aware that your perception of left and right are not on the whole going to align with those of the rest of the world. Notwithstanding the breadth of the spectrum of left and right and that we all have a spectrum of views on each topic.

Wow! When he said I became a kinder person that really resonated with me. I feel the exact same way. I use to be such a anxious and judgmental person when I was a Christian and I feel like I am a more understanding person now. I’m not perfect by any means, but I feel as though now I actually think about my beliefs and behaviors. It is a very freeing feeling not to have to stress about whether or not what you are doing or thinking it what God wants or is right in his eyes and then subsequently not get a clear answer.

Fascinating journey, Dr. Cargill! Your response to one of the last super chats brings up a point crucial to our contemporary politics. The phrase “separation of church and state” was made famous by Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence. In 1802 during his term as 3rd president of the US, he sent a letter to the Danbury Baptist Association in response to their fear of persecution by the Congregationalists. Those today who smile at the idea of a “Christian USA” established by law had better think again. If that were to happen, it almost certainly wouldn’t be THEIR brand of Christianity. They would find themselves persecuted exactly as Christian Nationalists long to persecute other religions, races, women, and LGBTQ+.

@@allen3397 Bravo! It's a bedrock principal of not only American democracy, but of human freedom across the boards. What Christian nationalists don't realize is that, if they achieved their goal of making American a "Christian nation," it would inevitably disenfranchise the majority of THEM. Only that narrow minority of people in power would impose their version of Chistianity. All others would be forbidden their rights.

Dr. Cargill's story resonates with me so much! I had a similar childhood, good parents, and a happy experience in the church where I grew up. I had a similar experience as a child of fearing hell, but not so much for myself but for my father. He had come from a family where his father had been turned off to religion, especially here in the South, after going through fighting in the trenches in World War I. So by example and by his own skepticism, my Dad had never gone to church much; however, I knew that he was the best man ever, strong, loving, kind and intellectually keen and curious. My mother was the one with a deep faith, but she also loved my father and knew the man he was, and always assured me. Yet, I was terrified by what I was taught about what would happen to him, and could not understand how a loving God could condemn him. That early cognitive dissonance, and the very Bible study programs I participated in caused me to question more and more. I left the Southern Baptist church when I was in college and with my husband attended more liberal churches until we both finally decided in our late 50s that we both had too much difficulty with organized religion to continue. The work of folks like Derek and Dr. Cargill has helped us to go through this identity transition and embrace our agnosticism. Thank you both for all you do!

What a nice man! He is very genuine and down to earth. The title however is misleading. Dr. Cargill was raised Christian but never talks about a "born again" salvation experience. Seems he experienced indoctrination into the faith, but never had a personal, life changing experience with God. You really can't leave something you never had.

The Christian church took the Jewish scriptures and manipulated them to fix the story of Jesus..I left the church a long time ago knowing it was all lies.

I gave my life to Christ at twelve years of age and have never regretted it. I eventually became an orthopaedic surgeon as well as keeping a keen interest in theology and the links between science and Christianity. I am still amazed by the love of Christ.

Paul created Christianity in 48 AD and this is how he put it: Romans 8:32 "He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all." 1 Corinthians 5:7 "Christ our passover is sacrificed for us." Romans 3:25 "God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement." Romans 5:8 "God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us." Hebrews 10:10 "We are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ."

The only Bible author who claimed to have seen Jesus is Paul who asserted that he met him in a vision and described Jesus as being only a bright light. Paul actually stated that his sources were non-human, "...the gospel I preached is not of human origin." (Galatians 1:11-12). Paul further asserted that Jesus selected him alone to speak for him (Acts 9:15): "Paul is my chosen instrument to take my message to the Gentiles and to kings as well as to the people of Israel." In Romans 1:16 Paul reveals that no other gospels existed at the time, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ." The Jesus story began in 48 AD with the first of the Pauline Epistles (which comprise nearly half of the New Testament books) when Paul realized the Daniel 9:25 prophesy of a messiah expired without fulfilling so he made one up decades later and set the story decades in the past matching Jewish expectations of the messiah to make the prophesy seem true. The fulfillment of the Daniel 9:25 prophecy written in 444 BC was the test of the true messiah. By 48 AD it was known that the prophecy of a messiah coming in "seven weeks and threescore and two weeks" had not occurred on the prophesied date. It was the 69th Week and the 70th Week was soon to come. The prophesied messiah was expected and the anticipation set off a messiah craze. "Seven weeks and threescore and two weeks" is, 7 plus 60 plus 2 equals 69 total weeks. One prophetic week equals seven biblical years of 360 days (the Julian calendar was created centuries later), so 7 times 69 equals 483 total biblical years beginning with Artaxerxes' decree in 444 BC. Those 483 biblical years equal 173,880 days, or 476 Julian years. Therefore the Messiah would come and be "cut off" in AD 33. One prophetic week equaling seven Biblical years is something “Daniel” invented in about 165 BC, effectively an admission that Jeremiah 25:11-12 failed. Paul made up the entire Jesus story and added historical figures, locations, and events to add authenticity. In the Galatians "road to Damascus" conversion vision tale written in 48 AD he claimed to have gone to the Arabian desert to study the Old Testament for 17 years to align with the Daniel 9:25 prophecy. Paul's goal was to garner support for the insurrection against the Romans which began in 46 AD led by two brothers, Jacob and Simon, in the Judea province. The revolt, mainly in the Galilee, began as sporadic insurgency until it climaxed in 48 AD when it was quickly put down by Roman authorities. Both Simon and Jacob were executed. He created the fiction of having witnessed the risen messiah. He wanted to show that the messiah had come as prophesied but was murdered by the Romans. This was to entice the Gentiles to aid in the Jews' rebellion against the Romans.

🔥Yes Jesus was God's son , his own life was blameless yet he died for our sins . We must believe , repent and turn from sins and get baptised to be saved to paradise instead of hell for rebellion. Once we obey Jesus teachings great peace and joy commes into our lives as the Lord fills the void that nothing on earth could fill. As true followers we accept all the things he said , the nice to hear things and the tough things so people who try to turn us away from Jesus it won't work. The love and severity of God is displayed at the cross. He loved us so much that he sent his son for us and the severity was that Jesus had to die in the flesh to pay for our sins. Also Jesus said he who denies me before men I will deny before my Father and the angels in heaven. Please read bible book Luke on how to be saved. Please don't take this message lightly , it commes from someone who has had encounters with the demonic and with the Holy spirit. Jesus and the bible are true and the only way to go.🔥

When I was young, most students said bye to religion after their first semester at a mainstream college. They came home for Christmas break wearing a Che t-shirt, and were like, “Mom, Dad, I’ve been enlightened by my professors, and I’m an atheist now. Also, can you give me more money for expenses next semester?”

To be fair, I was much of the same but it took me 2 semesters. Professors had nothing to do with it, it was my separation from family and constant indoctrination, when I was shown wider perspective on the world, especially by other adult people I'd lived with and interacted with.

I agree, somewhat. It's kind of like a car accident. It can be impactful, and even have residual impacts for a while, but not be considered traumatic. That said, if the disturbance lasted a while, it very well could be defined as trauma. Only Robert can answer whether the hell belief impacted him long term, I suppose.

Even though it’s all fake, but for the sake of all who actually believe it- The god of the Bible murdered babies and children all the time. Killing the Egyptians babies for being the wrong race?The Old Testament literally says that an innocent person cannot die for a wicked person. It literally says that if you just repent, then your sins will be forgiven. Sacrifice was only for INTENTIONAL sin and even “god” got sick of that and said many times that he DOES NOT want sacrifice but REPENTANCE ONLY! It says that human sacrifice is an abomination even though he commanded Abraham to sacrifice his son to prove his commitment to him (insecure much?). It says that if anyone comes and does signs and wonders and leads people away from the Torah (law) that is a false prophet (Jesus). How do other people not see the insanity of the Bible? Not just the numerous contradictions but how does no one else think it’s not totally insane that “god” could only forgive your sins if his son is beaten and murdered? In the Old Testament, people just had to repent. Nineveh, anyone? If your god can only forgive your sins if there is blood shed, that is insanity. The Bible is absolutely abhorrent. In every way. “God” killed 42 children for calling Elisha bald…so y’all cool with your god killing children for behaving like..children? How do other people not see these things? Religion is man made. It is not real. To think a “god” would create a hell (which doesn’t exist in the Old Testament btw) to send his creation to for simply being humans. Who created good and evil? “God” says he did. So, why would god punish you for doing what he created? Please people read the book. I have. The New Testament in every way contradicts the old. No where does it say the “messiah” will be born in Bethlehem, or come from Nazareth or be born of a virgin. No where does it say the Jews will reject him, how does that even make sense? Again, how barbaric is it that a god could only forgive your sins (which he decided what was right and wrong) if blood is shed? That is insanity. Please wake up and see the lies and contradictions. Jesus literally called all non-Jews “dogs”. He only after being rejected by his people for being a false prophet (Deuteronomy 13) did he turn to the non-Jews. The fact that so many people “love jesus” is insane. He called you all dogs. He says in Matthew 13 that he will throw all lawless (law-LESS) people in hell. That’s not loving at all and that’s no where in the Old Testament. Please wake up and see the truth. The Bible is abhorrent and the fact that so many defend it is just as abhorrent. If you defend your god who murdered children and commanded genocide and condoned rape and slavery then you need psychological help.

I grew up in Catholic schools, grade school, High School, a Jesuit university, Catholic grad school (Iwas 20 before I knew who Martin Luther was😅). The Jesuits taught me Greek and I slowly worked my way through the Bible. I started to study serious scholarship, bought a copy of the Anchor Bible, read hundreds of books. I found I just could not take it seriously. I still have respect for the church that educated me but I just can’t swallow this stuff.

Anyone from the Church of Christ leaving it I will listen. I too grew up in the church of Christ. Whew never again.

I hear a lot of fake miracle stories with religious people, in that there are better more realistic explanations, but I hear mostly terribly depressing, threatening negative stories and experiences. The human condition is pretty pathetic at times.

When you actually study the Bible it becomes very difficult to take it seriously. I mean, really, stoning people for wearing clothes made of more than one fiber or planting diverse crops in your field. Then there is my personal favorite, how to sell your teenaged daughter into slavery (understandable but unacceptable).

No one should go against God’s word.
