Hello all, thanks for joining me as I brew a Dark Rock Brewing Nectar Oil All Grain Kit.
Sampled one of these beers a few months ago and knew I had to get the kit and do it myself.
Let me know your thoughts!

Just found your channel. I’m also a Dark Rock regular. Ordered this kit last week with the espresso cafe stout. Can’t fault the value and quality you get from these DR.

I didn't know sparge was necessary for biab, not saying it's wrong I'm just trying to learn what i can before I decide where i go from kit brewing. Heard great things about darkrock too.

Hello! Not sure if it is 100% nessacery for BIAB (have seen some people do it and some people not). Only thing I can think of is efficiency would be better because you are washing the sugars off post mash ☺️ I will have to try a brew without it and see if I still get close to target OG! Yeah Dark Rock are great. I've not had a bad kit from them yet to be honest! Going to do a brew from another shop next, have just always gone to Dark Rock for my kits and have never been let down ☺️ The Malt Miller 35ltr kettle I have is a fantastic piece of kit. Would highly recommend for the price if you're looking to go into BIAB. I was in the same position as you a few months ago and decided BIAB was the next step. Thanks for watching ☺️

@@TankardBrewing i have seen other ppl sparge albeit lightly with 5 litres or so but read elsewhere all water is added at the start. Tbh efficiency has gotta be better with the sparge. Glad you mentioned the kettle cos that's a sticking point with me, still undecided about either a brewzilla or just biab i want to keep equipment to the minimum but however i look at it i seem to need more lol. Is your kettle the 2400 watt element version?

Might try my next brew without sparge! Yes mate it's the 2.4k element ☺️ link is in the description for it! Very impressed with it. I am also however looking at a Brewzilla for my next purchase!

@@TankardBrewing I've brewed both with and without sparge. What I've found is that doing a "thick" mash (like 2.6 to 3.0) aids with greater mash efficiency, then the sparge would help rinse off the sugars produced. I guess that's why it's suggested that you use larger grist with a finer crush if you're going no-sparge. In my experience there wasn't a lot of difference in the efficiency, however, I recently started using a pump to recirculate my BIAB mash and found the efficiency to be improved. I suppose the recirculation helps keep a balanced distribution of the mash and the temperature. Caveat: This is my experience, your miles may vary...
