National has a great idea on getting tech giants to pay for the news NZ companies produce, that places like Google and Facebook earn from. One of the ironies is that they wouldn't support almost exactly the same bill when Labour attempted to do the same

There are still plenty of people who do not use facebook or twitter, yet they still manage to find their way to the news websites. Meta and Twitter do not gather news, pay reporters, editors etc, so they need to pay for the content are receiving advertising revenue because of.
Philippa Howden-Chapman wrote good article in the Press about housing nz.
What happens if Meta, twitter and google etc just stop linking to news websites from NZ... We're a pretty small market

Its a better idea because it is them that gets the power. If Labour had anything to do with it out it goes, whether it was good or bad.
