Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan is an Indian classical sitar player from Imdadkhani Gharana. He belongs to the seventh generation of Etawah Gharana. Shahid Parvez has performed in all major music festivals in India or in abroad. Shahid Parvez also got vocal and Surbahar(sometimes called bass sitar) training from his uncle Ustad Hafeez Khan. He also received training in tabla for many years from Ustad Munnu Khan of the Delhi Gharana.
Bhatiyali (Bengali: ভাটিয়ালি) is a form of folk music in both Bangladesh and West Bengal. Bhatiyali is a river song mostly sung by boatmen while going down streams of the river. The word Bhatiyali comes from bhata meaning "ebb" or downstream.
This baithak was held at the initiative of Ved Gupta as a part of bazm e Khas foundation live concerts.
The idea behind this upload is to preserve this collection of great music for all music lovers and students of Hindustani music. We treat this upload as a cover version.

It is widely agreed that Ustad Shahid Parvez is only an instrument through whom He ( God, Bhagwan, Allah, Nature...) plays!

True 💐
This is a ranbindra sangeet "bhenge mor ghorer chabi".. sitarist like ustad vilayat khan or ustad shahid Parvez plays it as bhatiyali.. they improvise the song and give it a raag rup.. i know the song as i am a bengali and learnt it in childhood..

Swarup Das but I thought it was ‘Jonaaki O Jonaaki’. Ustad Amjad Ali Khan plays it frequently as Bhatiyaar.

@@sudipbosu8787 Bhatiyaar is quite different from Bhatiyali, this particular tune is not based on Bhatiyaar, it is more of Mishra Khamaj. And "O jonaki ki sukhe oi dana duti melechho" is based on Raag Chhayanaat, which is in a totally different musical mode than Khamaj.

That Ranbindra sangeet is based on a common folk tune. Many bhatiali songs have same tune
I love India a big Hug from Rome, Italy
उस्ताद शहीद परवेझ का मिंड काम कान आैर हृदय को शांती देता है ...
A master-piece traditional from the master magician sitarist, which I have cherished over last 45 years.
Beautiful. Thanks for posting. I was taught Bhatayali Dhun in India by Shahid's cousin, the brilliant Ustad Chotti Rehimat Khan, and previously had been taught by the great Ustad Shahid. I'll endeavour to learn more from this, thanks for sharing.💚

@@swarupdas7313 I think it begins with poet Jashim Uddin’s bhatiali song “ Allah Megh dey, pani dey” and a mixture of many other bhatiali tunes.

@@kanizmahbub1 The notes of the mukhra of this tune is a very old one, it came about from the boatmen, fishermen folks of the rivers of Bengal, and also probably, there may been inspiration to and from the Bauls of Bengal, the mystic minstrels, they combine both Vaishnavism and Sufism, it's basically a genre of folk of Bengal. Tagore popularized this folk tune, used the theme in many of his songs. Later it was popularized by Ustad Vilayat Khan and now, his descendants.
