BHAKTAPUR in Kathmandu Valley - Are We in a Movie in Nepal? (Crazy First Impressions) 🇳🇵
Bhaktapur is a UNESCO World Heritage site and for all the right reasons as it literally is steeped in incredible architecture and rich history. We were blown away by how beautiful the Bhaktapur Durbar Square was as it felt like we were walking through the set of a movie. We would highly recommend a trip to this beautiful gem of Nepal and to add Bhaktapur to your bucket list when visiting Kathmandu.

Hello from Oregon, USA -- thank-you for the well-produced and interesting walking tour of Bhaktapur. 50 years ago, I lived and worked for 2 1/2 years in an isolated region NW of Pokhara and would make the journey to the Kathmandu Valley 2 or 3 times a year, usually staying for 1 or 2 weeks. At the time, Kathmandu was culturally and architecturally intact, had a population of just 160,000 people and was surrounded by agriculture. Thamel was just getting started and Freak Street remained the place to meet up with friends. There were few private cars and no motorcycles at all in that era, but many more bicycles and rickshaws. While in Kathmandu, I always made time to cycle out to Bhaktapur for a few days stay as the quiet medieval atmosphere was a nice change from the hustle and bustle of the city. Thanks again for bringing to mind fond memories of a really fun and adventurous time in my life. Best wishes to you and safe travels.

Inside the bhaktapur palace there is taleju god Bhagwan king used to play proker with god but he strictly prohibited to she her face but one day king break the rules and see the face of god and god became angry and leave the place then after king asked for forgiveness beginning to god not to leave the place because he needs her as well as citizens then god replied to king I can’t stay anymore but I forgive you. Choose the girl as Kumari by doing certain things and I will be stay in her body. From that day kumari started In bhaktapur. King prithivi Narayan shaha was a king of Horkheimer and mitju of bhaktapur king in our culture mitju relationships is more than god we can’t say no we can’t hurt them but prithivi Narayan shaha invade bhaktapur in a day of jatra then king of bhaktapur state to prithivi Narayan you did such a thing with your mitju you can rule this country till 13 generations and in 13 generations I will rebirth and kill you again after 13 generations no one rules this country he said this before his death and if you count of the king of Nepal king birendra is a king of 13th generations and royal massacres happened during 13 generations after that king Gyanendra rule the country but he is also 13th generations during his period citizens does not accept the kingdoms. Nepal is full of mysterious thing that’s why Kathmandu called as city of temple.
Bhaktapur and Patan have the finest artists and craftsperson in the world. It has stunning and phenomenal temples with intricate carvings which cannot be found in another place. Amazing city or a living museum.
All the 3 cities of Kathmandu - Kantipur, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur - all the craftsmanship, stonework, woodwork are the creators of the Newar people. Nepal has over 100 ethnic groups and Newars are the natives of Kathmandu Valley. The creation of these cultural sites were especially built by the caste groups specializing in woodwork and stonework along with the engineer, painter, metalwork castes. The Durbar Saquares were the palace complexes of the Malla kings of the valley where they built temples within their palace complex. These temples have deep Hindu symbologies and history, most of the buildings here start from 15th CE to 18th CE.

Kathmandu valley use to be 3 kingdoms- Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan. The 3 durbar squares one in each city use to be royal palace squares where a lot of religious ceremonies to court hearing etc happened.

Being 3 different neighboring kingdoms, there used to be a feeling of healty competition among the 3 kingdoms in terms of art and architecture. And the result is visible till date.
13:51 The statue is of our God called Narshimha which is an incarnation of God Vishnu. He has a head of Lion and body of a human and in his lap is demon called Hirankasyapu. Kathmandu valley have 4 cities Kantipur (Kathamndu), Lalitpur, Bhaktapur & Kirtipur. All of them are full of temples, old palaces full of beautiful architectures. Great to see you guys are enjoying your stay in Nepal. Don@t forget to visit Swayambhu (Monkey Temple), Baudha in Kathmandu. Patan Durbar square as weel.

I was there this time last week - it’s such a pretty town, and so quiet after Kathmandu. You’re half way to Nagarkot - do try to get up there especially for the sunrise. If you thought the views from Ulleri were good, the views from Nagarkot are even better. The Fort was absolutely fantastic for a bit of a ‘splurge’ night. I’m so glad I went there. Patan has a super Durbar Square, and the palace museum is worth a visit. And for something different when you get back to Kathmandu is the Royal Palace, Narayanhiti, for a bit of 60s/70s nostalgia.

Homes were built in squares with a courtyard in the center and with small doors and small ally ways - so, if or when attacked by enemies- people are protected !! Once they close the main doorway - all the homes in the courtyard is safe !! You can find small temples; water wells; place to hang out within a courtyard !!

Thank you for visiting Bhaktapur. Many tourists come here and miss the artwork and the craftsmanship of the town but you guys definitely saw it upclose. I ll add something about the statues in the stairs that you saw. Every step you go up, the one above is supposed to be 10 times stronger than the one below. The order is: Human Which shows how weak we are against the mighty of the god.

The Mallas ruled the Kathmandu Valley and the surrounding area from the 12th until the 18th century CE, After the death of Yaksha Malla, the valley was divided into three kingdoms: Kathmandu (Kantipur), Bhaktapur (Bhadgaon) and Patan (Lalitpur).when the Shah dynasty of the Gorkha Kingdom under Prithvi Narayan Shah conquered the valley as he created present-day Nepal.

Durbar square actually translates to palace square. Kathmandu valley itself is comprised of three cities, Kathmandu,Lalitpur and bhaktapur and although u can move around these three seamlessly without realising it ,these are three different districts that is three administrative zones with their own different mayors and municipal councils and these suprisingly used to be three diffenrt kingdoms in the past with their own different kings and queens . The durbar sqaures that u were seeing the Kathmandu, bhakatpur and patan durbar squares are remnants of what used to be the palaces of these three kingdoms
