Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar was the master of the ancient instrument, the Rudraveena, second to none.

This recording is from All India Radio most probably, that's why it ends abruptly. Editing Time was left for announcement. This is the only recording of my father's Bhairav. Even I have never heard h play it live in my lifetime. Such a blessing for me 🙏🏽 Arijit.

This is the most extraordinary Bhairav I have ever heard. It’s almost like Prakriti stretching while waking up in the morning. The imagery is so clear and clean, at once grand and graceful. I’m so grateful that you have shared this! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Can anyone clarify for me whether there's any relationship between this and "Bhairavi" uploaded by the same user...and also with the album "Mishra Bhairavi" where ZMD plays sitar? Just three different recordings?

Bhairav is a Raga employing Komal Re and Komal Dha ( Flat 2nd and Flat 6th ). On the contrary Bhairavi has an additional Flat 3rd and Flat 7th ( Ga and Ni ). When the artists sets Bhairavi as the base, launching into other ragas it becomes Mishra or mixed Bhairavi. Bhairav and Bhairavi are 2 independent Thaats or parental scales under the umbrella of which various ragas fall. Hope that helps. :)

@@ericreed8113 additionally both ragas are devotional to Shiva, but Bhairavi is the “feminine” part of Shiva and Bhairav the masculine.
