Sri. Libin, Listening to your lecture(debate) on "Castes in Bhagavad Gita". In the first 15 minutes, I could spot out two important mistakes in your arguments: 1. you said: Gita was written to revive the "Brahmana Madham or Brahminism". You mean and equate Brahmin caste with religion by the word Brahmana. It is wrong -Veda can be grossly divided into two major parts: the Karma Kaandam and the Gnana Kaandam. These parts include Samhithai (the text, Mantras), Brahmanam (commentary on rituals, ceremonies and sacrifices), Aaranyakam (the text on the symbolic and philosophical meaning behind the rituals and sacrifices), and Upanishad (discussing meditation, philosophy and spiritual knowledge). The "Purva Mimamsa" that upheld the rituals and sacrifices mentioned in 'Brahmanam' is known as "Brahmana Madham". It has nothing to do with the caste that we know today as Brahmins. SO your argument is wrong, thanks to your misunderstandings or poor knowledge/reading of Hindusim. 2. You try to establish in the first 15 minutes that Bhagavad Gita was never an important book in Sanathana Dharma (Hinduism) and it was only because of the 18th century European Orientalists interest and their works that Bhagavad Gita gained attention. WRONG. Bhagavad Gita, with Upanishads and Brahma Sutram has long been collectively called as the "Prasthanathrayam" the three important or canonical texts of Sanathana Dharma and all the three has been taught and learnt by all Vedantha traditions. That's why Sri Sankara, Madvacharyar and Sri Ramanujacharyar -the founders of three Vedantha philosophical traditions wrote commentary for Bhagavad Gita (clearly suggests that Bhagavad Gita has a prime and important place in Hinduism/India). Inspired by the popularity and importance of the name "Gita" many other 'Gitas' were also written; for ex. Ashtavakra Gita, Vyaadha Gita, Avadudha Gita, Uddhava Gita etc., So your second claim is also wrong. Such huge misunderstandings and shallow readings and weak arguments in the begining of the lectures drastically discouraged my enthusiasm to listen to your talk further. Please read, understand and come with strong and logical points to argue. Best of LUCK!

@@Prashansm 1. Gita is interpreted by different people differently. However, Gita proclaim casteism and uphold Brahmin supremacy. 2. Gita was not prominent among 90% of the Hindus till recently. Because of British initiatives, gita become popular. This is a fact.

Bhagavad Gita has been in prominence at least after Shankara. All the major vedanta acharyas (Shankara, Ramanuja, Madhva) have written bhashyas on the bhagavad gita. Bhagavad gita is in fact in the prasthana trayi of vedanta. It was a prominent text in Hinduism and definitely vedanta much before the orientalists learned about it.

You can't study Bhagavath Geetha.

Ezhuthachan has condensed Gita's meaning as equivalent to Vedantic teaching of Sarvam Khalu Idam Brahma. He has not found that the primary meaning is to establish caste or varna. Similarly, Sri Narayana Guru indirectly refers to Gita as a teaching of ultimate reality in Anukampa Dasakam verse 6. Guru's disciple Nataraja Guru has written a very long commentary in English on Gita. Among Bhakti movement saints Jnandev has written a very long commentary. Sri Chidananda Puri Swamiji himself has stated that some verse attributed to Sankara was not stated by Him. Sri Krishna Prem Englishman Professor turned Yogi has also stated that many things were wrongly attributed to Sankara. Swami Tapasyananda has stated that there is a confusion between Adi Sankara and Abhinava Sankara in attributing works. Spiritual matters cannot be decided by historical studies. It has to be learned under a Guru. There are several scholars who have found that the language of Gita is uniform and it was written in a single period in history. Communist historians have a tendency to distort matters as stated by A. L. Basham on Kosambi. According to J. A. B. van Buitenen, an Indologist known for his translations and scholarship on Mahabharata, the Gita is so contextually and philosophically well knit with the Mahabharata that it was not an independent text that "somehow wandered into the epic".The Gita, states van Buitenen, was conceived and developed by the Mahabharata authors to "bring to a climax and solution the dharmic dilemma of a war".

I did not read the bhagavat geeta. So i don't know about the bhagavat geeta. In Russia there has similarly allegations against the bhagavat geeta that is bhagavat geeta is promoting the violence and discrimination on caste, religion and color based. This allegations were raised up by the Russian government attorney officer. He said that Russian should ban this bhagavat geeta in Russia and moved to Russian court to banning the sale of bhagavat geeta in Russia but Russian judge has deeply analyzed this holy book in all language including the sanskrit. Then Russian court has rejected the plea filed by the attorney for banning the bhagavat geeta in Russia. Russian court has cleared the bhagavat geeta is not discriminating anyone on color and religion based. I think that Bhagavat geeta is not officially holy book of hinduism. I don't want to defend bhagavat geeta. It is not my job. Every hindu community is not following by the guide of bhagavat geeta book. We are following by the rule of law of our country and Constitution. Unfortunately caste based discrimination is still remaining in the hindu community

Bhagavad Gita says that Sudras are also qualified for its teaching. In fact any serious human being can follow the principles of Gita and benefit from it. For some esoteric teachings, Upanayana is required according to some teachers. But this is not required for Gita. Varna Dharma means to do work as per your personality type. Gita goes beyond Varna Dharma and advises Swadharma. Swadharma can be determined unerringly only by a spiritually evolved mind. It may sometimes even be against the existing social norms. These are very intricate matters to be studied under a qualified teacher. The nature of a man is Sahaja which can be changed by Sadhana or spiritual effort. That is how Tamasic people become Satwik and they even cross over Sabda Brahma. The problem is that you are reading Gita casually. It is not meant for people who are without serious intent on understanding the meaning of life. It is also not meant for people without adequate Tapas.

As the disciple reaches higher levels, the teaching gets fine tuned. Sankhya of Gita is not opposed to Vedanta. It is nearly the same in the sense given above. Sankhya and Karma Yoga are two wings. Karma yoga prepares one for Sankhya. The chapters of Gita were not named by Krishna. As Pushpadanta says our tradition has not shied away from plurality of paths based on individual taste and capacity.

That isn't correct, Today bhagawad gita is taught even in foreign schools since childhood and in universities as the book of knowledge and success. The programs cover most modern management theories and practises thru their relevance in the statements of the Gita

..... മായാസ്രഷ്ടം means മാറ്റങ്ങൾക്ക് വിധേയമായവ എന്നാണ്. കർമ്മം മാറുമ്പോൾ വർണ്ണവും മാറും. അത് കൊണ്ട് തന്നെ ആണ് RSS തന്ത്ര വിദ്യാപീഠം ഉണ്ടാക്കി ദളിതരെയും പൂജാരികൾ ആക്കുന്നത്.

Gita has not criticised Buddhism. In fact, Buddhism is later to Gita. Buddhism has taken ideas from Gita like Maitri Karuna Ahimsa Nirvana unsatisfactory nature of the world etc.

A small confusion or rather a doubt. That is, when you are addressing a later day ABHEDANANDAN(not sure of his exact name), you call him SWAMI ABHEDANANDAJI. And you are simply saying SHANKARA while referring to SHANKARA ACHARYA SWAMI. My view point is that this ABHEDANANDA or whatever is his name should be given the same treatment like you are giving for SHANKARA. JUST FOR YOUR ATTENTION AND CLARIFICATION.

Mr when I dont like bittergourd I simply dont eat it, thats it . I do not go around telling people why I dont like it. People who like it and gain from it positively gone on consuming it, I should not try convincing them saying that it tastes bitter, though it is rich in many good things for my health still I don't like it because it was not created according to my taste and preference, then I am a simple fool. Now you said it is poem, But for us it is similar to the talk ( bagawan wach and not peom) when paramathma came to krishna and then to shanker . Shanker become equal to paramathma and we call him shiva shanker. NOT SHIVA KRISHNA BECAUSE KRISHNA DIED ( NONVIOLENTLY MAY BE CANCER HEART ATTACK)

You can be born to a soldier in mewar kingdom it is depend on your purusharth with shiva in the last kalpa ( during destruction of the world ). You can be born to Jeff or bill gate or ambani ( it is your karma) you can be born to a dasa dasi of a rich arab or rich brahmin it is your karma. Jathi is truth. You dont need to call it . But in hinduism we call it . Sikh jatt battalian, rajputh battalian, gurkha battalian. ( even hitler said give me gurkha i will difeat brits)

Yes it is a poem and not word of god, how can it be perfect but there is some truth in it. We did not tell any body it was paramathma shiva who spoke geetha. It was clear a gentle man wrote geetha in his vivid memmory of shiva in the past life. So onviously it cannot be truth. Only the word that is spoke with proof is truth. But since we do not have it we can expect god shiva comes when there is degradation of dharma and sorrow etc. we never said geetha is spoken by supreme soul. We know it is a poem

There is nothing for anyone to leave from hinduism. Especially because, no hindu is ever told that he would become non Hindu if he doesn't follow something!! It is like no human is ever told that he would become inhuman if he doesn't understand science. Even an atheist is hindu!! Hinduism is scientific enough for example, even to the point that it classified humans according to their temperament. Occupation is based on that temperament. This is only to achieve faster progress in the society, so that the right person does the right job at the right time. Therefore this principle is ubiquitous and hence the understanding is known as 'Sanatana'
