Disagreement: If you think merit should be the ONLY criteria for selection to an academic post, why should we restrict the post to Indians only? Is it not a reservation we all enjoy? It has a purpose. Even though there can be more meritorious aplicants for the post among foreign nationals, we restrict and reserve the post for Indians because of considerations OTHER THAN MERIT. Caste based reservation is also to be viewed in the same lines. It is for representation of all in the main stream. Please think and understand. I have no caste and I am not a beneficiary of any kind of caste based reservations.

Caste based reservation has many logical drawbacks. For example it's not the poor/ needy one benefit from it. It's always the caste in general. So the castes/religions will always exist in society. And according to Kerala Christians are only 18%. But a majority of them comes under general category. But muslim population is almost 27 % . And they all comes under reservation category. It's such a joke.And also the major community in Kerala are muslims 27 % and Ezhavas 23%. So this majority enjoys the reservation. It has no logic at all. Because many people comes under these two categories enjoys political and financial power more than a general category. To add to it muslims after Mughal invasion never been oppressed by Upper castes in India. So either the reservation should be only given to SC ST category. Or just economic reservation can be given to Hindus and Christians in general category + Ezhavas and muslims.

There is no scheme or concept perfect in all respect. This is applicable to reservation also. Caste is a social reality. Merely stating that there is no caste will not eliminate it. Caste has prevented millions of people from joining the main stream social life of India. It is time to ensure that all such communities are given proper representation in public life. Reservation is one method. If Muslims are not deserving it, they should not be given reservation. It cannot be a reason for stopping reservation to other needy communities.

There may not be any perfect ones. But there may not be any illogical reservation schemes than that presently running in Kerala..And for your information most islamic countries don't provide any reservations to others. Even though others are very small in percentage. In fact Atheism is banned there. And Islam and it's followers gets special treatment according to the law itself ( Especially in countries like Pakistan ). So indians don't have any obligations to give special treatment to some religions and it's followers just because they are comparatively less in number. 🤣

If caste is a Problem , then it's only a problem inside Hinduism. So only hindu subcastes needs special treatment. Abrahamic religions don't need that treatment. They can be also included in general category. It's a logical fallacy that Abrahamic religions have castes. 🤣🤣

My society is reforming itself.

One needs to know the past (history) to understand what he/she is today. That doesn't mean that one carries the past always. Here Ravichandran did not make that clear. The past is not a mistake. We feel it as a mistake only when we stand in the present. So the whole presentation is nothing but a fallacy, if we disregard our past. I hope what Mr Ravichandran getting at was the current situation in India when people walk around by saying we had a great past and trying to carry that burden today and ruin today's opportunity.
