Beyond the Hot Flash: New Frontiers in Menopause Management with Dr. Mary Claire Haver
Dr. Mary Claire Haver shares her journey from being a board-certified OBGYN to becoming a menopause specialist and holistic practitioner. She discusses the challenges she faced in traditional medical practice, including long hours and administrative burdens, and how she decided to open her own menopause-focused clinic. Dr. Haver also explains the importance of nutrition, exercise, stress reduction, and sleep in menopause care. She highlights the lack of education and research on menopause and the need for more attention and funding in this field.

Watching Dr Mary Claire is why i started researching perimenipause and got on HRT. Losing weight, getting better sleep, less joint pain, and less anxiety

Me too, hot flashes were the least of my symptoms it was severe joint and muscular pain and poor sleep. On HRT for about 4 months and all symptoms are vastly improved 😊

After how long can you see the improvement from menopausal symptoms?
Thanks for trying to unwind the gross injustice done to women.
Gosh Dr Youn really knows how to get the best out of anybody. This the best Dr Mary interview I’ve seen
Here in Spain we have Menopause clinics, covered by state healthcare and private healthcare, where you go and see a doctor about all this stuff. My doctor started telling me to go when I was like 39.
I’m 60 and my periods completely stopped when I turned 42. Since then I’ve never had any menopausal symptoms. No hot flashes, nothing and I’m obviously not on any hrt’s. I feel very lucky.

You're part of that 30% who can make estrogen at the tissue level. It's enough to avoid the worst symptoms but maybe not enough to prevent the big 3 diseases. Make sure you get bone screening, and you absolutely avoid metabolic syndrome. Going into menopause i started becoming metabolically unwell.

Dr Haver is so incredibly knowledgeable.
❤❤❤ Two of my favorite KZread doctors! I’m 52 and have been on estradiol patch & micronized progesterone since December. My mood, sleep and skin problems improved, which I didn’t even know had to do with hormones. I have more energy and motivation, and lost 7 lbs in 2 months. I lift heavier, do zone 2 cardio regularly and track macros & micronutrients using Cronometer app + a food scale per dr. Mary Claire’s recommendation. Thank you for helping so many women & their partners by spreading your knowledge and passion.

I'm excited to have found this video with Dr. Youn. I have watched a bunch of Dr. Haver's video trying to figure out if she recommends estradiol alone or does it always go alongside progesterone. I see you take both. Would you be able to share anything about this with us? Please & thank you 🙏🏼
@tlc9279

You have to take both to prevent uterine wall thickening & bleeding. I’m on 0.05 patch + 100mg progesterone. I started with 0.0375 patch with little improvement, so increased after 3 months. Then I had some spotting (which is normal), so took 200mg for 5-7 days which stopped the bleeding, then back to 100mg. 200mg was making me drowsy but should be safe. It took me a 2-3 months to get the right dose, and it could change overtime. Every woman is different- and consult with your gyno.

@@jaykaira9939There's no need to fear something that your own body produced for decades. I think all the fear mongering around HRT is really irresponsible and harmful to women, yet psychiatric medication is prescribed to menopausal women in bucketloads without anyone considering the harms.
Dr Youn, can't thank you enough for this wonderful video. She is one of my most faves on this issue. You did such a fabulous job at making it simple enough for layman to understand and how you kept summarising the key points especially the healthy cell theory. Please keep doing these videos, so many women are benefiting from this, who have no access to this knowledge and system to get bhrt.
I'm on my Patches and it's working wonders for me 👍🏾💯
I had a hysterectomy at 40 for severe endometriosis and started HRT patches a year or so later. I read about the study but still decided to keep using it as no familial breast cancer. I’m still taking it and I’m now 63. My heart is 100% healthy, my bones are strong and while I did gain a lot of weight initially mainly due to hypothyroidism, I have lost it again slowly. Aside from osteoarthritis, I feel really good and my mind is still really sharp. I’m no longer depressed and life is great. My OBGYN said I could use until my 90’s. Lately I found out that if you take HRT from early on it helps protect you from Alzheimers which my mother started getting in her late 60’s. God I hope so! I still get my regular screening like mammograms etc though.
I really appreciate you bringing up the musculoskeletal syndrome of menopause. I feel like I live at the physical therapy clinic because of tendonitis and nerve pain popping up here, there, and everywhere.
TY for having DR Haver to discuss this important topic!
This was a wonderful interview and I can’t wait to get the books and see my doctor
She’s so fantastic!!! Thank you for having Dr Haver as a guest! This is an awesome interview! ❤
Best video yet! Love these doctors!!! Love the break down of the studies and stigma of hormone therapy. HRT has saved me! My mental health is so much better. My shoulder pain is so much better. Thank you Dr Harver ❤ Your voice makes a difference.
Thank you. Was so enlightening and helpful.
Spectacular!
Thank you Dr. Youn and Dr. Mary. I’m going thru he- with menopause right now. I wouldn’t consider HRT before since breast cancer runs in my family. I will talk with my doctor about it now.

This an amazing video. I've left comments on so many of her videos. I feel as though most doctors who aren't educated in menopause write patients off. It's leading me to look into other options, MyWinona. These 2 are rare find in doctors. The Healthcare system today is designed for more administrative less patient care. What can you do when most doctors dismiss that menopause systems are not real or are not treatable?
One thing I noticed most on all the podcast I listen to they never address help for women who cannot take hrt's due to cancer. I'm sure there are a lot of others including myself a two-time cancer survivor who would love to go on hrt's but have been told it's not a good way for us to live longer. Any tips and tricks for us?

You can try alternative medicine docs, try a certified menopause provider. Yes , it is a royal pain to go from doctor to doctor when you don't feel well. Being disregarded is emotionally distressing. Also look into acupuncturist that is experienced at treating menopause- look for one who is also an herbalist. Good luck

Since menopause at age 56. Now my cholestrol and LDL is high and my pcp keeps hounding me to go on a statin which I refuse to take. I’ve been taking bio-identical hormones since 2012. I exercise, eat healthy but can’t seem to get my numbers down. I’ve been seeing a nutritionist for a month now to try to lose weight hoping that will help.

Love the video, my Nana was also given barbaric electric shock treatment in her menopause years that was so violent it broke her teeth and turned her into a shuffling zombie.
The only thing that doesn’t sit well is the diet culture and restrictive dieting from the “Galveston Diet” which can increase stress itself and anxiety around food and ones body and can push some women into disordered eating or full on eating disorders. I mean here we are again being judged and criticized by the size of our bodies during an important transitional time in our life . If women are taking care of their hormones they shouldn’t need to do a bunch of restrictive things which is completely exhausting and stress producing. Also, a nutrition certificate does not necessarily make one a specialist. BUT I really appreciate all of Dr Havers info especially around menopause and hormones and advocating for women’s health. The info is a godsend and I really appreciate all the time she is taking to educate and spread this news.

I have listened to multiple podcasts by Dr. Claver and she is very complimentary about the knowledge registered dietitians have. You have a point about triggering disordered eating . But Dr. Claver has a point too. If what you are doing isn't working to control your weight something needs to change. I recommend everyone listened to Dr Robert Lustig on the dangers of ultraprocessed food ( no fiber ,pharmacological doses of sugar) . Food companies deliberately add huge doses of sugar to their packaged food because they know people will buy more and eat more. Sugar ( table sugar) is two molecules joined together - glucose joined with fructose. Fructose is the molecules that triggers the reward centers in the brain. We have a massive obesity epidemiologist in the developed world. Weaning from packaged junk food is part of staying healthy.

Ok - food restrictions may trigger disordered eating in some women. But we have a WORLDWIDE obesity epidemic in developed countries i n large part Due to the pharmacological doses of sugar in ultraprocessed food. See lectures by Dr Robert Lustig on this topic and the dangers of eating large amounts of sugar laced ultraprocessed food. Keeping your weight out of the obesity range is part of staying healthy.

So I’m turning 60 this year and since my mom had estrogen related breast cancer, no dr would recommend hormone replacement therapy for me. Here I am, still having hot flashes like crazy and my hair is thinning. Ive got some osteoporosis and osteopenia, and my cholesterol is on the rise. I’m otherwise, very healthy. I haven’t meant a dr here on the east coast of Florida, who seems updated on any of this information. Since I’m not sure if I’m in a window where HRT could harm me, I’m pretty scared to try it or trust a dr here to discuss it with. Any suggestions?

So happy a man is addressing menopause. Sexy❤
Unless all doctors are trained thoroughly on menopause, nothing you say will go any further than your KZread channel and women will continue to be forcibly diagnosed as depressed, and antidepressants will be shoved down their throats. Doctors will also be glad to hand off prescriptions that help hot flashes, even in cases where hot flashes are mild yet the anxiety that comes out of nowhere, is debilitating. But, oh, no! They can't help with that anxiety. At all! That's just depression. Here is your depression medication that you do not need. You know what really makes people depressed? Doctors who have all the power in the world, but do not listen to their patients and treat them as though they are stupid and uneducated despite their level of education.
