All due respect to Eddie, the putting together of that Australian front row of Kearns, McKenzie and Daly was an absolute masterstroke. It changed scrummaging for a time with a hooker who was taller than the props, shifting the force to the middle of the scrum rather than the sides, and those three played in the open like three extra backrowers. So, Kearns was picked from reserve grade over Eddie for those reasons. Bob Dwyer knew exactly what he was doing.
Ella was a pure genius. I often find it dumbfounding that so many people haven’t heard of him. He literally changed back play from 1984- early 200s!! That was his blue print
