Beyond Labels: Bridging Differences Through Storytelling | Noa Baum | TEDxWilmingtonSalon

When Israeli-born Noa Baum moved to the U.S. and unexpectedly formed a friendship with a Palestinian woman, she realized the importance of listening to the story of the "other" - even if that other is the enemy. She discovered that storytelling transforms perceptions, and from that epiphany Noa shares how she uses storytelling to connect across conflict in our communities and work places. Can storytelling change our response to differences? -
Born and raised in Jerusalem, Noa Baum is an award-winning storyteller, author and public speaker presenting internationally with diverse audiences ranging from the World Bank, the US Defense Department and prestigious universities, to congregations, inner city schools and detention centers. With a unique combination of performance art and practical workshops, her work focuses on the power of narrative to heal across the divides of identity. Noa trained in theatre and education at Tel-Aviv University and NYU and with acclaimed acting teacher Uta Hagen. She is a recipient of a Parents’ Choice Award and a Storytelling World Award. Her memoir, A Land Twice Promised: An Israeli Woman’s Quest For Peace, is a winner of the 2017 Anne Izard Storytellers' Choice Award. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

This talk is right on the button! As an American now living in Israel for 30 years her story touched me deeply. But the idea that its the personal story-telling that can bypass the hardened brain and "sneak" into the heart to create real change is so true and may I say "telling".. Thanks Noa for bringing us a bit of light amongst so much darkness...

Noa's story never gets old for me. In this time of implicit barrier construction, we desperately need bold bridge builders. Sharing stories builds bridges for evolutionary change. Excellent lesson here and inspiration for constructive conversation. Excellent!
