I’m a very brown skinned Indian girl. I grew up hearing comments after comments (nothing good) about my complexion, even from my own parents. It destroyed my self esteem, over the past few years I had to unlearn everything my prejudiced community taught me and see for myself that I’m beautiful the way I am. This song brought tears to my eyes, I just wish my younger self who got repeatedly called ugly for her skin could’ve listen to this. Fortunately for me my dad built my confidence. My mom never commented in my protection when people including her family passed negative comments about my skin tone. Being a middle child between yellow bones wasn't easy. In high school that's when my confidence elevated when my teacher told me how beautiful I was and forced me to enter a beauty contest and which I came second.

I am so glad you learned to accept your dark complexion and know its worth at such a young age. When i was 14 i was FULL of insecurities and they didnt go away until i turned 20. I loathed my dark skin. I am 21 now, and at such a better place. I love my dark skin. I LOVE EMBRACING IT. i wear whatever colours i want without wondering if my skin would look too dark in them. i dont edit my photos to make my skin lighter anymore. The thought of changing mt skin routine to get better (lighter) skin doesnt cross my mind anymore. I am thankful for God for making me just the way I am. Now i do dance like nobody is watching me

I'm north african i'm not black and i'm not white either, i'm brown, a beautiful brown girl, i got mocked for my skin color when i was young, old women laughed at me telling my grandma that my skin was ugly, they often compared me with my cousin and her "milky beautiful skin",they told me that no one gonna marry s.o like me, they were saying "oh mariem (my grandma's name) all your grand daughters are light skinned and gorgeous where did this one come from ?" i was young and i hated myself at that time ... I’m mixed my mother is a brown skinned girl and my grandma is a dark skinned girl. People think I’m from New Zealand to be fair I live pretty close by but my dad is white and I’ve never seen my mum date a man darker than her. I’ve never seen my dad with anyone. Literally people only acknowledge the white part of me and it’s so sad because the brown part of me is who raised me and never discriminated. Edit white guys be pushing me off a bridge so disgusting. Out of ten there’ll be one decent guy but how decent is he when he lets the other nine be predatory. Not even a hero out of nine arch enemies.
